Thompson 1880 is one i've never heard of, roll on March.

This dvd will feature a featurette with director Guido Zurli and cinematographer Franco Villa.
They both died in October, that's so sad...

I'm having a bad time in editing this featurette since Franco was a dear friend of mine and it hurts a lot for me to think that he's no longer with us.

Franco will also be part of the featurette about Il Venditore di Morte.

Ringo Il Cavaliere Solitario main extra feature will be a featurette with Franco De Gemini, the legendary musician who played harmonica in almost every italian movie (including Once Upon A Time In The West).

I've got them in the Japanese Macaroni western Bible, that transfers aren't that great, i think that's where alfa digital took the prints from.

The Koch ones are supposed to be a lot nicer.

My SPO 'Return of Ringo' looks good enough, but I will most likely upgrade when I place my next amazon.de order to catch up on all of these!  The only ones I'm really not that interested in are the Bava westerns (so far I have 2-7, 9, 10, 12, 14).

Yes, none of these have been released by Koch before.
I vigliacchi non pregano ( Taste of Vengeance ) has not been released on DVD before with English as far as I know.
Roy Colt e Winchester Jack has been released multiple times worldwide.
...e per tetto un cielo di stelle ( A Sky Full of Stars for a Roof ) was released by King Records Japan but is long out of print and impossible to find.
Gentleman Jo... uccidi ( Gentleman Killer ) was available from Wild East, but it was a flawed transfer, letterboxed and is now out of print.

I'm extremely excited for this set!

I preordered the "Giallo-Collection - Teil 1" on amazon.de, but I'm actually kinda tired of the DVD format, so I might cancel it. (im not a big fan of such boxes anyway; i like a movie to have an individual packaging)

And not long after that comment about DVDs I received a Koch "Silbersattel" (Sella d'Argento) BD that doesn't even work.  :-[

Anyone else who had problems with this release?

Update the firmware!
of course not. you know how many times a shitty firmware update that usually leads to little improvement anyway causes region unlock codes to not work anymore?
and why would updated firmware suddenly make the blu-ray player play some old disc, when with the old firmware it has no problems playing a bd that came out 3 years later, even released by the same company?

Hi Ben, a Koch product manager over at the dp forum mentioned that everything was more or less ready to go, but they are still working on more bonus material.  :-X So far interviews with Salvatore Puntillo and Vittorio Sindoni have been announced but Sindoni is busy shooting at the moment. It might take some more time to get him in front of a camera. The extras on FEMINA RIDENS are more problematic since it seems that neither of the two protagonists wants to discuss the film. I wish Koch would try and get input from Schivazappa too, especially considering what extraordinary and unusual piece of cinema FR is.

WESTERN UNCHAINED COLLECTION
Quote
Koch Media is currently planning to launch a new Spaghetti Western DVD collection, which encompasses Quentin Tarantino's favorite Spaghetti Westerns (taken from the SWDB-exclusive top 20 List) and many that he selected for last year's retrospective at the Venice Film Festival. The DVDs will be released on January 18th in Amaray Cases with cardboard sleeve, to coincide with the European release of Tarantino's Django Unchained, which hits German theaters on January 13.

Just got mine - looks excellent! A Quiet Place has Engl audio (along with Italian and German) and Engl subs, A Ciascuno Il SUo has Ital./German audio and Engl. subs, while La Classe Operaia strangely has no English audio or subs at all. The fourth disc in the set features two long documentaries on the director (84 min plus 58 min, in Italian with German subs only). All subs are optional. Among the interviewees are Florinda Bolkan, Bertolucci, Morricone, Nero, Redgrave. Packaging style is minimalistic as usually from Koch - a bit too minimalistic for my liking. Great release nevertheless, a brave move from Koch imo. Especially sine Petri's pretty much unknown outside Italy, save perhaps for La Decima Vittima.

Good news as an English-friendly release of A Ciascuno Il Suo was what I was really after... already have the Spanish disc of A Quiet Place in the Country and Italian disc of La Classe Operaia, which has English subs. I'll be picking this box set up in the new year.

Thanks very much for your informative post prospero! I don't any of the A Quiet Place in the Country releases and since A Ciascuno il suo has got English subs, I think I might order it. Surprising that 10th Victim is the only proper release stateside. You'd think that at least Investigation would be some that Criterion might consider.

And thanks for the info about the La Classe operaia disc Ben. Didn't know that one had English subs. I've just ordered it.

Nope. Just for the missing scenes I suppose.

Is this the only 'western unchained' blu-ray, btw? I can find only this one and Navajo Joe, but they already released Navajo Joe on BD before, so that's kinda lame.

German/English/Italian audio & German subtitles.
These are options available in the box but at this point it is still not clear which film will feature which and especially if the extras and booklet texts (written, amongst others, by the AMER directors) will also be English-friendly. FEMINA for example will not have German audio. I certainly hope for the best and will report back, Ben! You can find some early screenshots in this review: http://www.filmforum-bremen.de/2013/03/dvd-rezension-die-koch-media-giallo-collection-teil-1/ (http://www.filmforum-bremen.de/2013/03/dvd-rezension-die-koch-media-giallo-collection-teil-1/) It says that WEAPON is based on a well-worn film print and is the weakest presentation of the three.

Same for me. I have the Shameless disc too, but I am thinking the included interview with Piero Schivazappa will help soothe the pain.  :-X

As far as FEMINA is concerned, the name of the box is quite misleading for newcomers to the genre anyway, because WEAPON is also quite far from what one has come to expect from a classical giallo (outside of Italy that is). I've seen it some 15 years ago and I recall it to be more of a moody, slow-paced crime mystery. Didn't think much of it back then, but for some strange reason I still remember the denouement very clearly. I even recall the funny final image that had me thinking of the poster art for Pupi Avati's ZEDER. Not really sure if spoiler tags are needed here... I am looking forward to how I will rate it this time around, now that my appreciation for all things Italian has grown considerably. At the end of the day I am just very happy that more of these lesser known films get worthy releases.

It depends how you look at it really, its kind of a pop art thriller and even though there is no black fedora wearing sex maniac it does have similarities to some of the early gialli but with a style of its own. I really like the film

then that went viral and then came this eventually:

those idiots think 'steelde' is a word, but it equals to 'stealed' in English.

Anyway, the 'serieus G' is when he visited him when he got 1 millions views and he gave the tv guys a canabis plant.

Who is he then, I flipped through and he's speaking whatever then saying "What the fuck" etc in English with a put on fake sounding accent.

So I can see he's an idiot but have no idea what it's all about.

...and that song was proper dog shit.

I thought it was just a random pic of some character you posted originally.

No, sorry. But because you wanted to know I had to explain.

ik steel = i steal

and

ik stal = i stole

steelde isnt a an actual word, just like stealed isn't.

Just ordered the Giallo Collection and the Italowestern Enzyklopaedie from amazon.de.

Post by: WayneSmith on 15 Mar 2013 - 13:16
This is weird. Amazon.de had the Giallo Collection in stock for a little while, and now through a 3rd party on their marketplace for more than twice the price.

 :-*  ???

http://www.amazon.de/dp/B008410CHS/ref=pe_217221_31005211_dp_1 (http://www.amazon.de/dp/B008410CHS/ref=pe_217221_31005211_dp_1)

Get your copies as soon as you can. Also goes for the Italowestern enzyklopaedie, probably.

Amazon.de lowered the price for my Giallo Collection order in the meantime.

Preis bei Bestellung:                     EUR 33,99
Preis bei Versand:                        EUR 31,34

Not bad. Both this one and the Italowestern Enzyklopaedie got sent yesterday, and will probably here by monday.  ;D

I already said that, but it's not amazon who's selling it at that price. I just received mine a few moments ago. Didn't expect it to come this fast.  :-X

Also ordered this:

and pre-ordered the Italowestern Enzyklopaedie part 2.

The only thing that bothers me is that the Italowestern Encyclopedia 1 wasn't delivered today, as the Giallo Collection was. I'm always suspicious because there's so many shit companies delivering mail these days in The Netherlands.

Got an e-mail from amazon.de for the "Damiano Damiani Collection", saying that they didn't know the release date yet.

On the other hand, they will send me "Beatrice Cenci" soon. It's in German, but I don't have much of a problem with that. (With french releases I need subs and then can only read half of it: very annoying and distracting).

I would have, however, preferred the french release despite the french subs. But that's just cause I liked that label a lot, and the package would have been great as usual.

Yeah I do. Live about 4 kms from the border. And you are talking about a better release with that hartbox  ;D It was in fact the one someone offered me on this forum and he sold it eventually for the price I was willing to give on eLame with one bid. But of course they take a little off of it, so retrospectively he would have been better off selling it to me.

This is the release I am talking about:

It's the only English-'friendly' release I am aware of. And even though I speak german; I speak english as well and better too, even. But I often have a hard enough time understanding idiots here speaking my own language. Therefore: English is much more preferable. And like I said, that hartbox is the only one I know of that has English audio (I did some research when I started the 'looking for'-thread).

But to tell you the truth: I would have gotten the French Neo Publishing DVD ages ago, but the price held me back. But that also has to do with the fact that I really liked this label, that had so many excellent releases in great quality video, and really nice boxes.

R.I.P.

P.S. German dubbing is fucking horrible. VERDAMMTE SCHEISS PEGGY! (al bundy)

Got an e-mail from amazon.de for the "Damiano Damiani Collection", saying that they didn't know the release date yet.

The Box got cancelled, according to a statement Koch Media made on a German message board on monday.

This is mainly because they still would've to invest quite a sum of money into "Strega ..." while on the other hand there have been only meagre pre-orders so far.

The upcoming Koch Giallo Collection N°2 will include the following films:

+ WHO SAW HER DIE (1972, Aldo Lado)
+ THE PYJAMA GIRL CASE (1977, Flavio Mogherini)
+ IN THE FOLDS OF THE FLESH (1970, Sergio Bergonzelli)

No information on language options or extras yet. Keeping in line with their first box I guess there will be quite a bit of discussion about what can be considered a giallo. :-\ Since I already have all three films on dvd I am going to pass this time. If only they had started their collections in BD format... I still hope sales will be good enough so that more boxes will eventually see the light of the day, hopefully including films that didn't have previous dvd editions.

Koch recently had a change of heart: They altered the artwork and chucked out THE PYJAMA GIRL CASE, replacing it with Umberto Lenzi's OASIS OF FEAR. Is it just me or is their Giallo Collection turning into a backup of the Shameless catalogue? :-\
I wouldn't be surprised if PYJAMA and the long overdue FOOTPRINTS will eventually show up in a possible 3rd box.

I've often ordered stuff from German market place sellers who did not offer international shipping originally. I usually drop them a line and ask them if they would be willing to unlock int. shipping and adapt the price accordingly. Some might not want to comply, but if you really need to have something and can't find it anywhere else it's always worth a try. I've been lucky this way quite a bit, especially with small-time outfits.

Sorry for the delay - I checked tonight - German audio only, no subs even though you can toggle them on and off, it's empty. Bizarrely there's an English language commentary by Castellari!
