Title: Chris Mitchum at University of Tampa
Post by: MikeMalloy on 08 Oct 2008 - 22:17
Did a small-scale event down in Tampa where I went and showed some clips from my Eurocrime documentary and answered the audience's questions about the genre. We also had Chris Mitchum down, and he talked about his experiences making RICCO and THE SUMMERTIME KILLER -- both in an on-camera interview for my doc and in a public Q&A.

I'll put some frame caps up from his great intvw up on my EUROCRIME! thread shortly. Thanks to The Hunchback for driving up and crewing on the shoot. (I'm actually kind of envious; The Hunchback probably spent more time with Mitchum than anyone, as he became The Mean Machine's unofficial driver!)

Oh, and the long-haired fella is a UT film professor.

Sounds like it was a great day Mike, how did the film screenings go down? Was the audience enthusiastic?

Sadly, many of the people who turned out for Mitchum were geezers (in the American sense of the word), so they were all of an older generation and mainly wanted to ask questions about Robert Mitchum.

Shame, how was Chris Mitchum btw? He seems a really nice guy from the interview on the RICCO DVD.

He certainly looks like a great guy. You should also watch his extended interview in Shriek Show's disc of Franco's FACELESS!

You're right, Jonny; he was a VERY nice guy -- dutifully answering the questions about his pop, posing for photos and thrilling everyone with great behind-the-scenes stories (especially later at the bar, when he told stories that were very "off the record").

I was in a sorta awkward position, because I arrived down in Tampa and found that a few bits of follow-through for the event had fallen through the cracks. But the ol' Summertime Killer was understanding.
