I've been wanting a copy of Warlords of Atlantis and not been wanting to pay the silly money the Cinema Club DVD was going for until recently, so I'm happy. ::)

I like them Doug McClure films, ridiculous but a lot of fun.

Just noticed these nicely packaged Amicus Classics on Amazon.co.uk which can be picked up for under £5 each (http://www.amazon.co.uk/I-Monster-Amicus-Classics-DVD/dp/B000KRNMYO/ref=cm_rdp_product)

It's been so long since I sold my old Anchor Bay coffin box set (http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-Amicus-Box-Set-Limited/dp/B0000DINM4/ref=sr_1_1?s=dvd&ie=UTF8&qid=1341391669&sr=1-1), did that version of THE BEAST MUST DIE have the werewolf break in it?

Yep. The print was was fullscreen and really soft though. I sold my coffin box years ago and have the Dark Sky discs of three of the films. I actually found some of the Anchor Bay discs the other day, a bit scratched. They must be the original discs before the replacements were sent out. I remember a ton of complaints about the discs arriving loose.

Cheers for the info mate. Does anyone know what the print is like on this new Optimum disc?

Here's a review I found
http://www.avforums.com/movies/The-Beast-Must-Die-review_9002/dvd.html (http://www.avforums.com/movies/The-Beast-Must-Die-review_9002/dvd.html)
If I can actually find my Dark Sky disc I'll see if I can do a quick comparison with the AB one as well. Had a look for it earlier and no idea where it is but all my DVD's are in a right mess at the moment.

According to Hammer's twitter, The Devil Rides Out will be released on Oct 22nd, the same day as Rasputin and The Mummy's Shroud, which have been put back from their original September date.
-
Great.'the devil rides out' along with 'quatermass and the pit' are my favourite hammer films.I am surprised there is still no news about releases of 'dracula' and 'curse of frankenstein'

There's loads of news about Curse of Frankenstein actually! It's been the source of a raging debate for the past couple of weeks.
Basically, it's ready and sounds like it'll be after this bunch but Hammer have been insisting, after looking at the open matte transfer that it's genuinely framed for 1.37:1 and were all ready to release it in that ratio. A barrage of comments from punters, experts and whoever has now convinced them to release it in 1.66:1 as well, which is probably a good thing as it doesn't sound like they're actually sure about it.
They're screening the restoration next week actually..

They're kind of using this restoration as a test before they work on Dracula for next year.

I suppose that these will part of StudioCanal Collection in UK too:

The top two are available to preorder on Amazon UK, not sure about Le Proces.
-
There's 3 more Hammer Blu-rays (http://www.lovelockandload.net/blog/wordpress/?p=498) coming from Studio Canal this October...
RASPUTIN THE MAD MONK, THE MUMMY'S SHROUD and THE DEVIL RIDES OUT

I need to pull my finger out, not got any of these Hammer Canal blu's yet.
-
Got Rasputin and Mummy's Shroud on preorder during the HMV 20 % sale. Shame they announced Devil Rides Out late. I'm staying on top of the Hammers. Ordered the Synapse Twins of Evil last week as well.
The only one I haven't bothered with yet is the Aus Vampire Lovers as the audio is meant to be really shit.
-
I can not afford them at the current prices.
-
They're not cheap and also seem to have crept up a little but they're also not showing any signs of being discounted.
They're quite high priority for me though and I haven't paid more than £12 for a UK one yet. The Synapse ones have cost about £13 each from Amazon marketplace.
-
It looks like the extras from the ABUS DVD of Devil Rides Out are being ported over, including the commentary which was unavailable on all the other UK versions.
Special Features:
Three brand new documentaries:
Black Magic: The Making of The Devil Rides Out
The Power of Light: Restoring The Devil Rides Out
Dennis Wheatley at Hammer
World of Hammer Episode - 'Hammer'
Gallery
Commentary featuring Christopher Lee, Sarah Lawson & Marcus Hearn
Easter Egg

It seems Hammer have taken it upon themselves to tweak/'revise' some of the FX in The Devil Rides Out. That is probably seriously going to backfire. The original FX aren't great, especially the spider but they are what they are.

From what David says it doesn't sound that bad. And improvement no less.

They should have opted for at least a choice though. It wouldn't have been hard to branch. There are tons of films with crap FX that could be redone but that's how they are. Doing something like this, especially on the quiet is a bit pants I think. They may look better but I'd like the option and he also mentions 'more obvious digitally created' which could potentially look quite jarring in a 1968 film.
I'll also add they went well out of their way to try and convince everyone that Curse Of Frankenstein was Academy Ratio and wanting to get it as close to the original theatrical presentation in their eyes, yet they go and do something like this. All a bit mixed up.
-
Do you reckon the outcry of disdain from Hammer fans about this will be enough to see an untampered release at some point?
-
It should be. I don't want films 'enhanced' forty odd years down the road.
-
That might be annoying as well for what probably amounts to a couple of minutes of fx work if it wasn't a freebie. Their attitude at the moment is that you can still have the untampered one, just on DVD only which is a tad arrogant really.
There was a reason they haven't mentioned it on their blog. Now the word is they'll supposedly cover it next week on there. I just find it hard to understand why they didn't just save the fuss and branch it. I can't imagine what casual sales it'll get and there'll be a fair few cancelled orders I'm assuming.
The strange thing is the Angel of Death scene. The only part I ever though looked bad about it is where you can tell its an obvious loop with the horse movement. The face has just looked like a cheap '60's Hammer effect to me and no biggie. If they're going to do that, they may as well go back and redo every Dracula decomposition scene because none of those have ever looked particularly good either.
-
As i said in the other thread, it doesn't sound good at all, Jonathon Rigby stated that they are very subtle and look better but it's not really the point. I did say (five mins ago) that i would reserve judgement till i have seen it, but to be honest i think i am going to cancel my pre order. Strange decision on their part
-
I'd imagine the outcry will amount to them not doing it again.
-

Me neither.
