Title: Neo Publishing (France)
Post by: djvaso on 13 Dec 2009 - 21:20
As the Neo Publising is back with two new titles in its Collection GIALLO I think is good time to be included here. So, here they are:
Les vices etranges de miss wardh
http://www.amazon.fr/vices-etranges-miss-wardh/dp/B002FBB4E8
Toutes les couleurs du vice
http://www.amazon.fr/Toutes-couleurs-vice-Hilton-George/dp/B002W8IIXE

Surely you own both of these on DVDs from elsewhere? If so, if you really wanted them for the packaging, it wouldn't matter, right?

True, but they would be nice to have though  :D

I have already many editions of both Mrs Wardh and All The Colors of the Dark, but I'll get these ones as well.

Neo Publishing is a great company. Their "Giallo" collection is excellent, done with care and respect. They do whatever they can to release the best possible version.

I'm glad they picked the Belgian "Toutes Les Couleurs du Vice" title instead of the French title "L'Alliance Invisible". I never liked it.

I emailed them a few years ago about English options on their disks, they explained they do try but it is often too expensive.

I would buy some of the old titles because they are affordable more than ever if the shipping cost at Amazon.fr isn't so enormous for me (EUR 13.00 per order + EUR 1.90 per disc)

Their older giallo dvd's are available relatively cheap now.
Some titles are only 6 Euro.
Maybe shipping would be cheaper directly from Neo?

Yes, it would be cheaper if you are from G7 countries + few others where they ship theirs products.

The specs are now on Neo Publishing's website.

The disc are sold at €19.99 (should drop down to 9.99 in a few months).

The first 100 copies of both DVDs will be signed by George Hilton.

I have the feeling that, minus the audio options, these are exactly the same version as the Italian Alan Young/Aegida DVDs.

Yes, the masters are the same of the other Italian releases.

The featurette are in Italian (with forced French subtitles) and the commentary is in French (no subtitles whatsoever)

Aren't the extras exclusive to the Neo discs?

Yes they are.

Neo Publishing's extras are usually good. What they did for Aldo Lado's L'Ultimo Treno de La Notte was even excellent (long interview of Macha Méril and Aldo Lado, commentary by Aldo Lado).

Yes, I made them just for these releases.

Here's some screenshots from the two featurettes: "Histoire D'Un Vice" (History Of A Vice) and "Toutes Les Couleurs Du Giallo" (All The Colors Of The Giallo)

You have to buy it from Neo Publishing site hoping to be among the first 100 buyers (there are 100 signed copies of Mrs Wardh and 100 of All the Colors of the Dark).

2 days ago only 40 copies were left (20 + 20).

OK, got my DVDs... But not signed  :-[

I guess I was too late...

The extras are good, especially the interviews of Antonio Bruschini and Antonio Tentori. George Hilton doesn't have much to say about the movie though... He's talking about the location, how nice the actors were (he likes everybody, how boring  :-\). Nothing really interesting.

This is something I have noticed with almost every interview of Gialli actors (Edwige Fenech, Jean Sorel, Fabio Testi, etc...). Most of them don't remember the shooting. Back then, they didn't care much, I think. The most funny must be Edwige Fenech. In the interview included in No Shame's edition of Your Vice is a Locked..., it's really obvious that she is totally clueless. She doesn't even remember the plot!

Federico: listen again to your audio commentary of L'Etrange Vice de Mdme Wardh... at 12 min or so, something weird happens  :-*

Great job anyway. Thanks. I also like what you did for Neo's L'Ultimo Treno Della Note. The commentary with Aldo Lado is excellent.

I hope you will participate to many other Neo DVDs...

The interviews with the actors are always strange because they tend to say always the same things and when they start saying that everyone was nice and everyone was a sweetheart you know that you won't get any interesting info about the movie.
It happens pretty often, especially with actors.
Anyway, George Hilton has been a really nice guy and we've absolutely enjoyed his company.

Yes, there's a 20 seconds audio problem in the audiocommentary, I apologize for that.

I'm glad you've liked the dvds and my commentary on L'ultimo Treno Della Notte. I don't remember how many audiocommentaries I did since I've started doing this work but the one with Aldo Lado is certainly on top my preferences.

does Neo forsee putting out more English friendly releases, the giallo disks are awesome but I never buy them when I see them in Fnac etc due to the lack of English.  ::)

I'm afraid that Neo Publishing will keep on having no English friendly releases.
The subtitles for the extra features will always be just in French and the audio track of the movie will always be in French and Italian because of the deals they make with the licensor. When the Italian track isn't available they use the English one (like for MIO CARO ASSASSINO or LA CORTA NOTTE DELLE BAMBOLE DI VETRO).

Yes, I know... But getting rights for having English friendly dvds would cost too much for them and for the moment Neo Publishing will keep on focus on the Frech public.

Anyway, a bunch of Neo Publishing featurettes have been used in some Danish dvds and they have English subtitles.

Yes, I guess it was  :D

I apologize again...

I hope that the commentary was interesting anyway. It wasn't easy talking about the movie for almost 100 minutes (and not in my native language!) trying to say interesting things...  ;D

Neo Publishing is officially dead.

reasons: The DVD market is dying, VOD doesn't grow fast enough, rights owners are too greedy, the French national film fund doesn't like genre movies, etc...

It's really sad. It was a fantastic label. I will miss them  :-[

Another one bites the dust,a real shame as these guys put out some cracking releases.I remember they had just started up when i first came out here to France a few years back with ULTIMO MONDO CANNIBALE,CANNIBAL FEROX etc and now they're finishing with the superb gialli collection just as i'm about to go back home to London for good.

Managed to pick up the last two giallo releases from Amazon.fr,who also seem to have some stock left of the giallo/poliziotto collections and some other Neo releases.
The ones Amazon still has in stock are mostly relatively cheap, except for the 2 final releases.

Some have exclusive extras which might be of interest to people who understand Italian/French.

If you can understand a bit of French I highly recommend Neo's Le Dernier Train de La Nuit ("L'Ultimo Treno...", Aldo Lado). It includes an excellent audio commentary by Aldo Lado himself.

The Fulci DVDs have also generous extras. Don't miss L'Au Delà ("L'Aldilà") and Frayeurs ("Paura Nella Citta...").

And if you understand italian you can find a whole translation of that commentary in my site www.freakorama.net  ;D
Maybe one day I will do a complete translation of the other commentary I did with Aldo that day (for La Corta Notte Delle Bambole Di Vetro/Malastrana). I think it's not bad and quite interesting.
We did those 2 commentaries in French because both me and Aldo were able to do it (he lives in Paris since many years) and the dvd producer thought that it could be a nice treat for French audiences.
