What a small minority of British Muslims? Can we keep the gross generalisations off the forum, please? Thanks.

Morris is a genius. I loved BRASS EYE. I reckon this'll be great.

Get off your high horse, it's not a gross generalisation it is the sort of thing which will cause complaints and you know it is.

Get off your high horse, it's not a gross generalisation it is the sort of thing which will cause complaints and you know it is.

Of course there will be complaints, from white Christian Daily Mail readers, as usual.

I think what Paul was talking about was the way you worded your post...

Quote
It's things like this that give them an excuse to kick off!

This reads to me like you were using the word 'them' to mean Muslims.

Personally, I think the vast majority of Muslims in the UK will see this as the dark satire it is and 'get' the joke. I'd imagine all the Asian actors in this film are Muslims too and they certainly won't be kicking off about any of this.

From the Guardian :-

"Morris has been at work for several years on a project that marks something of a departure for him in formal terms (it's a feature film) if not in his proclivity for provocative subject matter: Four Lions is a comedy about suicide bombers. Which isn't to say he is taking jihad lightly: he has embarked on serious research, talking to everyone from police and security experts to imams and Muslim community workers."

Yes i did.

Let's get this into perspective, if someone in Scandinavia can cause so much uproar with a drawing i reckon this could too.

I'm not anti-muslim i'm anti-muslim extremists. I'm not some div who thinks all muslims are the same you know.

Another thing, if it was me who posted the clip i bet it would have been looked at in a different light.

I asked for you not to make generalisations, as your post read like a sweeping statement. "Them" certainly doesn't sound specific to extremists, does it? I've made my point. I will just deleted anything that I consider to be offensive going forward.

So why did you just admit to using the term 'them' to mean Muslims when what you really meant was extremists?

Delete what you want, feels good to flex your modding powers does it.

It's ok for you to express views on Marc's forum isn't it, yes i read it because there was a link put to it on pre-cert.

I do know what you mean but feel the need to point it out for casual readers of the forum who might not know you well enough to understand what you really meant. I don't want people getting the wrong idea about any of our members.

Notice nothing was said about Rich's "fingers crossed" comment which could be read as "fingers crossed ...... (insert whatever words you want) do kick off"

I'm being singled out again as usual.

Grow up. This is typical of your behaviour. No one can ever say anything to you without you kicking off like a baby: my post merely called for you not to make generalisations. Your first post in this thread read like a generalisation. Like Jonny said, if a casual reader was to stumble onto this thread they might be led to believe that you're some kind of racist bigot because your post could be interpreted as something written by one.

I might as well leave. it's obvious you don't really want me coming on here.

Your level of paranoia really is something. This has nothing do to with whether or not anyone wants you to post around here or not, and everything to do with you making flippant comments about minorities that could be perceived to be racist by people that don’t know you. Since you brought up the subject of Pre-cert, we’ll use that as an example.

There was a thread on the Pre-cert forums back in October that became the soap box for a bunch of bigoted people to air their views about our country’s minorities. Some pretty awful things were said in that thread and because the admin was really ill (and offline), these comments were left without any moderating. I was so angered by what I read there I no longer post at Pre-cert and now hold a very dim view of some of its members. As Tanzi pointed out, I aired these grievances on the Cult Movie Forums last week. Had that original thread on Pre-cert (which raged for pages) had been nipped in the bud early on, I would have been none the wiser and would have been happy to carry on posting in the bliss of my ignorance.

Comments like the one Tanzi made at the start of this thread, no matter how inoffensive they may be in the mind of the person writing them are an invitation for those with more questionable beliefs to elaborate further. Comments like these will not be tolerated by me on here and will be removed without warning or notification. This is a film forum: if you want to discuss politics and religion I suggest you air your views about them elsewhere.

Thanks.

Correct me if if wrong but a racist is someone who doesn't like another because of the colour of their skin, Muslims can be from any country and be any colour so i can't see how it is racist. Same as any religion you get white, black etc etc.

My comment was innocent and wasn't supposed to be controversial but mark my words, your telling me there won't be complaints when this is aired, i'd put money on it that there will be.

and if anyone wants to know, i'm agnostic (sort of).

I took exception to you using the generic term "them" to describe Muslim extremists, Aarron. If you want to make a point about extremists taking offence to the Morris flick, then by all means do so but don’t make remarks that could be construed as an attack on a whole group of people.
You really didn’t need to get so wound up about it. My original post in response to yours was polite, after all.

I was reading in Empire the other day that prior to the screeing in Sundance, the only time Morris showed the film to an audience was at some kind of test showing in Sheffield. He said that there was a cross section of different people, including many people from the muslim community. Anyway, the film went down a storm apparently.

I watched this this afternoon, I thought it was quite funny, not hilarious but it was quite good. Like I said in the previous post I'm pretty sure the mountain region that is supposed to be Pakistan is Spain, I fast forwarded the end credits to the end but it didn't say any "filmed in" locations.

You're right. From IMDb:

Almería, Andalucía, Spain

Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England, UK

Yeah it's Riz Ahmed, nice bloke, really down to earth.

I went to a screening as part of Jameson's film club of Taxi Driver last night and Riz Ahmed introduced the film.

It was at the top floor of the car park in Brewer Street in Soho, good night, there was a bar and everything with hookers and pimps strutting about and even a political canvass girl handing out Palantine badges. ::)

And of course a 70's yellow taxi  :'(

Cheers mate, I was lucky to go aswell, a mate of mine told me about it a few weeks ago and I forgot all about it, texted me wednesday to ask if I was still coming and I hadn't registered myself, luckily you can have one guest and as my friends wife didn't go I managed to go along.
