My latest Code Red review is for the late David "I DRINK YOUR BLOOD" Durston's STIGMA (http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film3/dvd_reviews51/stigma.htm).
I'll have to look up the links for previous reviews.
As far as Euro stuff goes, they've put out WEEKEND MURDERS and are going to release THE DEAD ARE ALIVE (THE ETRUSCAN KILLS AGAIN).

Well it looks like we'll finally get to see Code Red's SE of Scavolini's NIGHTMARE after all.
Release date is July 26.

I had a French DVD for a while, I didn't like it either and swiftly got rid of it.

The last time i watched it was a good 8 years back. This was just before i sold my rather snazzy and very collectable bigbox Continental tape on Ebay,a decision it didn't take me too long to regret making!

-
I was thinking that broonage was talking about primal rage....my mistake! ;)
-
I recommend their recent release of Rituals, loved it. :D
-
i too whole heartedly recommend it.it was the first time seeing the film for me and it is fucking awesome, hal holbrook is one amazing actor.Im sure most of you guys have seen the film anyway but it is one the best films code red have put out so far,as well as 'messiah of evil' :D

I used to have a Scandinavian tape(Danish I think), the cover was awful with some dodgy sort of Schwarzenegger Running Man artwork.
-
The Dutch vhs also has drawn artwork. :D
Here's a nice review (with pics):

I've got Killer Likes Candy on Greek VHS. I remember trying to sell it off many times in the past on eBay with no joy so I just ended up keeping it. Watched it again a few years back and it was definitely better the second time round. Good cast and breezy score but there are much better spy films out there IMO.
-
Seems there's been some changes?
8/16
CUT-THROATS NINE (1972) / JOSHUA (1976)
STONEY / KILLER LIKES CANDY (1968)
8/23
BLADE (1973) / RING OF DEATH (1969)
THE GODFATHER SQUAD (1974) / BRUCE'S LAST BATTLE
Stoney = Surabaya Conspiracy (1969)
-
Didn't really know where to post this...
Seems Code Red's Nightmare (aka Nightmares in a Damaged Brain) is already shipping... ::)
Axel were unable to fulfill all pre-orders since they run out of stock (for now).
-
I don't know... I'm sure I'll find it once I post this but I've been following threads about this on a few forums hoping that someone who received their package would post and confirm whether they got Nightmare or Nightmares but so far haven't seen anything saying one way or the other. I remain cautiously pessimistic but take it as a good sign that Bill hasn't said this was not possible though.
-
I mailed with Axel and they confirmed they had received a batch of Code Red's Nightmare dvd's.
-
Nice, that's the only post I've seen about this anywhere that wasn't speculation. Thanks for confirming!

It was a tongue in cheek remark, it wasn't about the film itself it was about you saying yours had been shipped ;D
btw, do you get commision for plugging axel, omg etc all the time :-\
-
If only I would get a commision from them...would have made a bundle. ;D
Think I'll try Diabolik or D&T instead... :-\
-
Anyone know what happened to Butcher, Baker Nightmare maker? Love that film. ::)

I heard on a certain forum a few months back that it shouldnt be too long now,it was from a member who is quite in with the company(so to speak) so i think that they have a bit of insider info

Bill shoots his mouth off all the time about closing down. I think he just likes the attention.

That or it's a cunning ploy to get people to go out and gobble up his back catalogue because they fear it'll be out of print.

Ok thanx for your reply! :P
-
Just have to say, The Godfather Squad blew me away, way better than I was expecting.
-
Gordon Mitchell is great as "the son of a dead top Nazi",who seems to wear a SS uniform all the time! ::)
I also found Godfather Squad really enjoyable.
Great ending as well!

Code Red considering selling direct to customers to improve profits...
http://codereddvdblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/code-red-plans-to-sell-direct-to.html (http://codereddvdblog.blogspot.com/2012/02/code-red-plans-to-sell-direct-to.html)
-
Bill can already be approached for direct sales,i bought a few oop titles from him the other day,I only paid $20 for oop lightblast disc which is way cheaper than the ebay scalpers are chargeing, all other titles were like $12 which i thought was really quite fair.If anybody is after anything contact him through the code red email,he is a nice guy and is encouraging people to buy direct.
Obviously when the store is up and running it will be a little easier, but at present with no distributor its getting harder and harder to get any code red titles, and i guess people are assuming that more titles are oop which they are not,its just a lack of distributor
-
Sounds good to me!
-
"CODE RED TITLES 4 SALE TO CUSTOMERS. Email me at codereddvd@yahoo.com to get a good deal on titles 4 sale" (Bill/twitter)
Seems prices are fair and there's even some oop titles that were returned by shops.
-
Yeah i got 'light blast' for $20 which is pretty sweet considering how much they were going for on ebay etc.He had no copies of pets though which is the only other oop title i dont have
-
How much was shipping?
-
"have some OOP,&I got tons of doublebill dvd! email me if you are looking 4 code red title codereddvd.com"
"OVERSTOCK! CHALLENGE THE DRAGON $5, WILD MALIBU $5! DEAD PIT $5. MAKE A LIST, EMAIL ME, I LUV TO SELL TO FANS OF THE EXPLOITATION CULT FILMS"
"OVERSTOCK! UNKNOWN COMIC $5, BEING/COPKILLER $5, visit codereddvd.com & write a list and email me! Love selling it to customers!"
"I'll overseas! email me at codereddvd@yahoo.com" (Bill/Twitter)
-
I paid $10 shipping for three dvds to the UK which is pretty fair
-
Thanks George, that's not bad at all. I'll drop him an email.
-
"Still selling! Customer can make request and buy direct! PLEASE MENTION IF YOU ARE OVERSEAS." (Bill/Twitter)

What would you like to know Aarron? :D
-
What would you like to know Aarron? :D
Is there a price list?
-
Not really.
Just send the titles you want to Bill and he'll quote prices.
Lots of titles going cheap (overstock),also there's still 2 disc editions of Dead Pit and Beyond The Door available (to my surprise) at excellent prices.
Btw Some titles are completely sold out and some almost.
-
I was surprised how many had sold out. I've gone for:
BLADE/RING OF DEATH
CUT THROATS NINE/ JOSHUA
STUNT ROCK
BEYOND THE DOOR
I'm just waiting for Bill to get back to me with payment instructions.
I wanted THE VISITOR and TRAPPED but they are both out of stock.

Nice one mate! Damn! There's some bargains there!
-
A few there I would like myself, shame I'm skint at the moment.
-
I've actually tried to email him twice thus far, with no reply. Has anyone else encountered a similar silence? It's been almost a week, I'd say...
-
Bill responded to me quite quickly. The only thing i'm a little miffed about it paying slightly more than the prices that gaz1 posted here.
-
Maybe prices of some titles go up as stock gets lower?
-
Well I paid $15 plus shipping for BEYOND THE DOOR and it is listed as $12 on that list.
-

Hmm. That seems odd. I've emailed twice already. Do I have the correct address?

Demented-uk "Well I paid $15 plus shipping for BEYOND THE DOOR and it is listed as $12 on that list"
did u not query the price? i would have!!
i've given that price list, that i only received from him on wednesday, to quite a few people, no one else has mentioned to me, yet, that they are being quoted higher prices. its only a few dollars but it seems unfair to me to charge people different rates. does your price include shipping???
it seems unlikey stock has moved that fast in 2 days has inflating his prices.
-
That's the 2 discer right?
I would expect many people to want that one.
That used to be a Best Buy exclusive.
Or maybe he just made a pricing mistake?
-
I was quoted $22 for Light Blast and $15 for Messiah of Evil plus $15 shipping to UK for both... made an offer for slightly less and he refused.
-
I paid 25 Euro plus shipping (French web shop) for the oop Light Blast and was happy to get it that cheap.... :D
-

Ten quid shipping for two DVDs is a bit steep.

Nope, did not include shipping. An extra $4 isn't much but it's just the principal of it. I ordered before I saw the list posted here.
US shipping seems to have gone up at most online stores. Buying DVDs and Blu-Rays is becoming an increasingly expensive hobby.
-
Bill stated this some time ago:
"BTW, be patient with me on the shipping, I am kind of new on some shipping ways (especially overseas)."
He also stated back then he was intending to use first class mail for international shipping.
-

Be happy that he replied to you! I tried to discuss a little bit for some OOP dvd prices but he did'nt reply and just ignored me.. this guy seems strange! :o

I thought the shipping was fairly snappy,i got my first order within 7 days

"Just to let everyone know I will be stop selling direct for awhile." (Bill/CR)
-
???
-
Probably overwhelmed with orders?
-
Probably overwhelmed with orders?
That suddenly made me think of Horror Movie Empire, Oli [shudders]
-
No,he is getting loads of complaints from people that the dvds are too expensive. Some people are fucking a-holes that really have no clue.Selling overstock discs for $5 a pop and they think it is too expensive.Apparently a buyer wanted a few of the overstock dvds dvds then complained they were too much and demanded 60% off plus ree shipping :-*
The thing is though he should distance himself from that stuff,i would just laugh at a request like that, not throw in the towell
-
Probably overwhelmed with orders?

Don't get me started. I had to get my credit company to refund the money.
Can't believe people are complaining at the prices. From what I've seen Bill seems to struggle to distance himself from the trolls.
-
Most Internet trolls who slate people like Bill and companies like Code Red don't even buy the fucking discs. They just say shit for affect.
I was mucking about previously, on case anyone thought I was being serious.
-
It's sad what these trolls get up to,noticed one spreading false information about future CR releases at another forum, luckily there were other members who knew better.
These things can potentially hurt future sales.
-
Personally i was asked for 45 usd for a single dvd..., sorry to discuss a little bit the price but not everybody can/want to spend this money for a poor english speaking only dvd!
After that i agree that complaining about the prices for some bargain dvds is really stupid!
Btw hope that CR dvds will be available again in the usual stores! :-\
-
$45 for a long oop dvd I'm guessing. :D
Some of the older oop CR dvd's have become very collectable and expensive.
I'd say these are the most sought after (and expensive) oop CR dvd's:
1) Pets
2) Primal Rage
3) Light Blast
-
You're right! :D
There's also the dead are alive and Nightmares on a damaged brain!

Stunt Rock and the 2-discer of Beyond The Door are great hauls.
But the other 2 dvd's are very nice as well. :D
-
Just read over at Latarnia that Bill can still sell direct for another week.
Has something to do with tax time it seems?
Anyway good news if you're still looking for some CR titles.
Don't forget to mention you're overseas when you contact him. :D
PS some prices have changed it seems to reflect demand/stock.

Just mail a list of wants to codereddvd@yahoo.com.
Don't forget to mention you're overseas (if you are :D ).
You'll get prices quoted for the titles and postage then.

Now look what's being shipped already...500 pressed so far apparently.

Cool, more Canucksploitation. Any idea where this can be ordered from Bruno?
-
Direct from bill,i think its $25 for international, and $21 for american orders, just paypal the $ to codereddvd@yahoo.com and obviously put a message in there about what it is for
There should be a webstore coming soon, but in the mean time this is how it is.Some people are complaining but i have made two orders and both went well, dvds recieved with 7-10 days. The next batch of direct titles are great, especially the naschy flick
THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THE DARK (1976) stars Paul Naschy, Alberto De Mendoza and Maria Perschy. Suvivors of a nuclear bomb must battle blind villagers in this Spanish reworking of NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Sean S. Cunningham is billed on the poster as the presenter, but he tells us he had nothing to do with the film. Mastered from the original Sun Video 1-inch tape master. Extras include a new 35mm transfer from a worn print, and the original trailer.
MACE (1987) - Ed Marinaro plays a tough cop tracking down evil Russians, gang bangers, and other slimy criminals. Darrell Larson, Corbin Bernsen, John Hancock, William Sanderson, William Windon, and Isaac Hayes co-star. An audio commentary with William Vanderkloot is recorded!
SINNER'S BLOOD (1970) - A crazy biker roams around a small California town as two recently orphaned teenagers visit their aunt. The ending is a shock! Mastered from the only surviving 35mm print! Interview with one of the actors is the extra.
SWINGIN' SORORITY (1976) - A Don Trendall classic as Poochie the Quarterback has sex problems. This schoolgirl has sex with a (John Ratzenberger clone) teacher to get high grades, and she is forced to have sex with 5 guys to become the homecoming queen....and homecoming hasn't had a queen in years! Rick Cassidy co-stars in another VCX title Code Red is releasing from its vaults! 16x9 35mm release!
All info is from the code red threads @ latarnia
-
Yep direct from Bill or from Amazon (The Exterminator) but Bill is cheaper.
http://www.amazon.com/Ghostkeeper-Special-Edition-Riva-Spier/dp/B007V7Q22K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1335041268&sr=8-3 (http://www.amazon.com/Ghostkeeper-Special-Edition-Riva-Spier/dp/B007V7Q22K/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1335041268&sr=8-3)
Those upcoming titles mentioned should also be limited to 500 or less.
Seems Ghostkeeper's initial pressing is also 500 btw...don't know if more will be pressed? :-*
The dvd contains the original "director approved" version so it seems.
-
Thanks for that. I've dropped him an email.
-
I have very few Code Red releases (Dead Pit (2 disc), Beyond the Door (2 disc), and maybe 1 or 2 more), which releases would you recommend (especially from the overstock sale list previously posted)?
One dvd I always intended to pick up but never did was Primal Rage, but now it's OOP. ???
-
I'd go for these personally from the list posted if I had to make a choice (beware that prices quoted are subject to change).

Glad to hear it shifted some stock. I really enjoyed the film, very atmospheric.

I watched it today, being nice I will say it was just alright for a watch but mostly I found it boring.

It's currently impossible to check out it,you keep getting an error.
Yeah, it seems someone complained about an order to Paypal, and they blocked his account.
Too bad, I was going to order a couple of titles.
I recently ordered a few titles from Bill (including paying more than I should for Primal Rage, but it's kind of a guilty pleasure of mine ;D) and all went smoothly.

You can order now.

Yep,check out is working now. ::)

A heads up if interested in Madman 30th and hate that pesky blue tint (loved Code red's response on another forum as to it):
http://www.amazon.com/Madman-30-Year-Anniversary-Edition/dp/B003TX8Q6K (http://www.amazon.com/Madman-30-Year-Anniversary-Edition/dp/B003TX8Q6K)
These have usually a pretty high price tag recently. Maybe amazon found a box?
In no way associated with Code Red, personally I question the "love".
-
Question the love for MADMAN or CR? I have a few of CR's discs and am very happy with those but MADMAN is a truly awful film.
-
The link originally was listed as in stock… :-*
I question Code Red’s (CR) love (I like Madman and their release, just taste though- mine is in my mouth) but this is just my own opinion.
I do think they put out some good releases but it is a feeling I get that they are looking out for something else.
Prices for certain titles rose when they were “closing†their doors. Many titles that the company said are oop have hefty price tags on the internet (some of the titles still listed oop on the old Code Red website can be had on the cheap now on the big cartel website). And the issue with one of the latest releases being pulled for “uncut†being printed on the cover due to a few complaints. This was available publically for just a few days and, as people on other forums point out, a seller on ebay seems to have a deep stock of copies and sells them at inflated prices. I am not saying that the owner of the company is living in a bank (like a stock broker who talks up or down certain investments maybe not with the interest of the client foremost) but they are in a way supporting price gouging.
I think small runs of dvd’s is an interesting idea and opens up the market some for a title by attracting individuals infatuated with what is seen as “RAREâ€. I think the reproduction of something old and obscure rereleased in limited amounts is a more meaty topic to think about. Do these small runs meant to keep in line with the original rareness of a film? What do these second or third, etc class (or generation, not meant as degradation in quality) products do for/to the original. Who makes up the biggest audience?...
Back to why I question the heart of Code Red. It is a feeling that I can’t shake personally that they are gearing their releases up more and more not for the fan, but the buyers with the appetite for the “RARE†and the seller.
-

I'm sure Bruno will have a nice long say but I completely agree with that part I quoted. I'm not sure what percentage of these new direct limited releases actually make it to people who want the film.
-
Do these small runs meant to keep in line with the original rareness of a film?
I'll just comment on this. :D
There is no "big" audience for these films.
-
wanted ti=o reply to bdc. Never said "big" audience... Was asking who is the biggest audience purchasing: fans, collectors, sellers, people with code red brown stains all over their chin and chest, etc?
love tis post on another forum it's all love for film:

Okay, this has now catapulted toward the top of my want list! this 1983 film had an ultra-obscure Japanese VHS release, but remains unreleased in the US. Maybe some enterprising company will rectify that situation
AIP later used a bunch of the BABIES footage for ISLAND FURY, which was touted as an Action (!) film, but I still need to see the original killer cockroach cut. Looks like one crazy movie.
CODE RED REPLY:
I can release it, but the rights owner only have a 1'nch tape. I will get those nasty people yelling....VHS! VHS! VHS! to the point let the movie be lost. (sorry, I am still jaded over spending $400 to make TOMCAT 3/4inch to play, when vhs would've been cheaper and heavy pissing people posted about vhs). Mr. britton will get on his soapbox and mention "Can't believe Code Red would release such inferior product". Mr. Britton doesn't understand the word 35MM DO NOT EXIST ANYMORE.
feared impresario behind CODE RED DVD, whose loving no restorations of non-obscure and non-controversial films have earned them the moniker " #3 Criterion of cult" releasing easy to find films.

I wouldn't know who buys CR discs, probably people with strange tastes? :D
Collectors/sellers only seem to jump on them when they're oop or about to go oop (which took years for most releases in the past).
Nothing new there as they jump on all oop genre releases it seems.
-
It was an open question Thanks for the reply.
You are right People with strange taste.
You are also right about when something is going out of print, or company going under others jump on the discs (or start selling a nice batch that they have been sitting on ::) ) and gouge the people who want it and missed the window. Code Red's business model seems geared towards this model more so than other companies, I feel.
Die Viper! limited release, or something like So Sweet So Dead's first release seemed like there was was a decent amount of time to get the dvd and they were not immediately showing up places at high prices. The rerelease of So Sweet so Dead was a brilliant way to get the film out to those who want to see it while respecting collectors and those who bought the original.
I personally feel a wealth more love may have went into the two releases mentioned.
Last I will say about it, I respect everyone here. Just trying to be conscious as to who I give my business.

No worries mate. :D

"I got JULIE DARLING, PEOPLE WHO OWN THE DARK, SINNER'S BLOOD, HEATED VENGEANCE. It'll be up as soon as the website is back working." (Bill/CR)
Also there's some other exciting news:
"The Godfather of the Bava collection, Alfredo Leone, says, "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse." Mr. Leone has just licensed to CODE RED DVD a few of his films: the violent Spaghetti western VENGEANCE with Richard Harrison; a loveable Ernest Borgnine goes gaga for sexy "The Story of O" star Corinne Clery in LOVE BY APPOINTMENT; Bo Svenson and Donald Pleasence battle Amazon girls in GOLD OF THE AMAZON WOMEN; and for the first time on home video, FACE WITH TWO LEFT FEET (with a John Travolta clone and Ilona Staller in a zany disco comedy!) Mr. Leone is looking forward to the sales and hopefully this will be the start of a great business opportunity for the both of us! More Leone to be on dvd for 2013!"

There's always later, but other labels new stuff will be in print for another 4 more years...don't know how long will Madman last. I'm not Bill, but you can check the shipping costs by adding items to the basket.
Shipping to Portugal is:
1 dvd = $7.00
2 dvds = $11.00
3 dvds = $15.00
And on a side note: é sempre bom ter mais um companheiro "tuga" aqui no forum (já reparei que recentemente surgiram mais 2 ou 3). Bem-vindo :P

That's what I was thinking. I've just emailed Marc to see what he thinks.

Prints under the POLICE CONNECTION title have been uncut, so I think this will be OK.

And has the world really been clamouring for THE ELECTRIC CHAIR on blu-ray? Or is he just giving himself a reason to gripe that nobody buys his product?

And has the world really been clamouring for THE ELECTRIC CHAIR on blu-ray? Or is he just giving himself a reason to gripe that nobody buys his product?
I've never heard of it.

He does have some seriously weird reasoning. I read how he was going to see how ELECTRIC CHAIR does as part basis for more BD's, including JUST BEFORE DAWN. I mean, we're not exactly like for like there...
-
And has the world really been clamouring for THE ELECTRIC CHAIR on blu-ray? Or is he just giving himself a reason to gripe that nobody buys his product?
I've never heard of it.
It's by the director of DOCTOR GORE. Something Weird chucked it as an extra on their DVD of AXE - even they didn't think it deserved it's own release.
-
He does have some seriously weird reasoning. I read how he was going to see how ELECTRIC CHAIR does as part basis for more BD's, including JUST BEFORE DAWN. I mean, we're not exactly like for like there...
I'd buy JUST BEFORE DAWN, he'd be better off releasing that on Blu first. Any idea roughly how many people like Bruno there are but buy each release regardless of what it is? Enough to justify it?
The other one coming out on Blu is NAILGUN MASSACRE. The Blue Fiesta Driving Piece Of Shit (remember him ;D ) had it on tape years ago, awful.
-
I'm a big code red fan but don't buy every release, but respect what he is doing with neglected films. But I cant get my head around the blu ray plans, why those two titles before 'jbd' is anyones guess, also I may be wrong but isn't 'the nailgun massacre' shot on video???
-
Count me in for the Mad Bomber and Just Before Done. The Mad Bomber is a fantastic film, I've nearly worn out Marc's excellent fan DVD.
-
I suggested backing off the uncut ELECTRIC CHAIR, at least for Blu. We'll see what happens.
I gather SW's print is cut, but not sure of what ( it's hard to imagine this was a terriblly explicit film to start with ), but I don't think there are too many buyers for this. JUST BEOFRE DAWN seems the obvious Blu lead off to me.
-

16 mm it seems.
"ELECTRIC CHAIR is a personal love for the film as it's way longer than the previous release. This was the original cut, before it was re-cut for the rerelease.
NAIL GUN is a fun movie and it deserve to be on Blu to keep Terry's film alive. " (Bill/CR)
-
"We filmed some really great new special features for Nail Gun Massacre. Not sure if Bill wants me to let the cat of the bag on those yet though.
Also, the HD transfer comes from the last remaining 16mm print. Amazingly, it's in pristine condition. So, it will look great in HD. Also, a few folks were disappointed that the DVD version was matted and differed from the original Magnum print they had grown fond of over the years. Specifically, the killer's legs popping up at the end! Code Red has rectified this by including BOTH versions!" (txfright)
-
All these titles from Code Red are must buys for me. Now that he has his PayPal account up and running it's a no-brainer! :-X
-
Voices From Beyond possibly the last 'good' Fulci film.
-
Looking forward to The Mad Bomber, never seen it... and about time Just Before Dawn got the release it deserves. Blu-ray of Voices From Beyond is a welcome surprise!
-
Mad Bomber is utterly brilliant. This is a must have by anyone's standards, and the alternative uncut version is surprisingly gory.
I estimate that Bert I Gordgon "BIG" :-* is the director who has the most films with both hard and soft versions!
-
'Voices from beyond' is not on blu,the only blu's are
nailgun massacre
electric chair
and possibly 'just before dawn' depending on sales of the above two, everything else is dvd
-
Voices from Beyond got a new HD transfer though so maybe ... :D
"The Alfredo Leone library with great titles like the first HD presentation of Lucio Fulci's VOICES FROM BEYOND."
-
Voices From Beyond possibly the last 'good' Fulci film.
He only made one more film after this one anyway.
-
"VOICES FROM THE BEYOND, I made a new master and most likely a Blu on it. If fulci doesn't sell 1,000 copies, then there is no large horror fan base on BluRay. 1,000 is not much compare to how much the other label sells." (Bill/CR)
So there is hope. :D
-
cool, i stand corrected
-
Fingers crossed...
-
Voices From Beyond possibly the last 'good' Fulci film.
He only made one more film after this one anyway.
I meant in terms of his whole film making career Tanzi, I know his last film was Door To Silence but I personally don't consider it 'good'. Saying that my most watched Fulci is New York Ripper!

USPS just whacked their prices up so it's understandable. Apparently it costs $9.45 just to ship a CD to Europe now. Lots of US Discogs sellers are scared they're going to lose loads of their European sales as it's now nearly $20 to ship one LP!

A friend of mine in the USA just packed in selling to European customers full stop because of the recent prices hikes on postage.

Surprised it's only $10,I was expecting more with the crazy USPS price increase for foreign mail...

Rumours of a Messiah of Evil blu-ray in the pipeline...
-
I purchased the double bill dvd a few days ago , looking forward to watching touch of satan , i am hoping the sheriff bailing hook scene and Melissa's nude scene are intact on this version. I think it might have just been the T.V version that was edited though?.
-
Rumours of a Messiah of Evil blu-ray in the pipeline...
That would be superb. Especially if it was region free. One of my favourite 70s American horrors.
-
Completely agree, what a masterpiece! 8)
-
Bill says Damon talks too much ( regarding MESSIAH ) , which could be taken as a confirmation.
One release that is confirmed and will be available next week from the bigcartel

so here's hoping the print was in good shape :D

VAMPIRE'S NIGHT ORGY is now available, with a major surprse co feature.
Turns out Code Red has given birth to a Leon Klimovsky double feature of potential greatness, pairing VNO with DR JEKYLL VS THE WEREWOLF. This is likely a release all fans of Spanish horror and Naschy will have to grab.

I'll be ordering this, mainly for the Vampires Night Orgy as it's the unclothed version, the Pagan release was the clothed version.
What's the chances of Dr.Jeckyll Versus The Werewolf being the same as the Mondo Macabro release?

What's the chances of Dr.Jeckyll Versus The Werewolf being the same as the Mondo Macabro release?
I've read this should be the unclothed version but better wait for confirmation. :D
The Maria double is not sold out yet btw, only sold out in the store for the moment.
I expect it to be available again soon.
-
I couldn't resist...placed an order for the Vampire's Night Orgy/Dr. Jekyll vs. the Werewolf double feature today.
-
Only english audio ? seems to be both the good old Sinister Cinema dvdr on one dvd! Let us know when the dvd will pop up!
-
From AVmaniacs forum...
"DR JEKYLL is a fresh transfer off a 16mm print with the English dub. This should be the nude version and NOT the covered version Mondo released, and is hopefully complete.
It may not look as beautiful as Mondo's Spanish print, but it should be a step or two up from the funky Sinister Cinema release.
VNO is also the uncovered nude version, and comes from a new transfer from a 35mm print. Thses should start hitting customer's mailboxes soon, screencaps to follow."

Nor the UK. Just tried ordering one.
-
Just sent him a tweet to find out why.
-
Nor the UK. Just tried ordering one.
He seems to think everyone in the U.K. is buying his releases to sell on at a vast profit.
I wonder if that has anything to do with it?
An annoyance as I was going to order two on Monday.

I'm assuming you were going to buy two so you could keep one and sell the other for a vast profit? :-\
-
Sounds like Bill got pissed off because someone complained about the international shipping charges too hard and has stopped international sales because of it. Seriously, he needs to get off the internet and just do his thing.
I'd probably be in jail if I reacted to every person who said something about me over the years.
-
So we have to be deserving to order a CR dvd ?? seriously iam fed up to fight for their releases, sold out, not sold out, can order, can't order, don't ship anymore! will dowload their dvds on CG and not support/feed them anymore ! keep your money for Camera O!
-
It's fucking racism. That's what it is.

You've done it now. He's not going to sell to anyone after that. He'll just press them up and leave them at his house.

Nah, was gonna get two different releases :D

I still see people trying to charge loads for the ones that are back in print. Do people actually buy them still at those prices? Does Google now require you to enter a minimum IQ?

Maybe they haven't realised they are available again?
How often are Code Red ones really rare then suddenly there's some more, quite often I'd say.
-
Orgy was sold out this morning, available to order again this afternoon (as long as you reside in the US). I'm amazed he's been able to stay in business this long the way he runs his ship.
-
I just tried the store and it seems UK and other countries are available again?
Could someone try and confirm this?

I certainly seems to go through for me. Before, as soon as you selected UK it wouldn't go any further (saying "sorry, we don't ship to the UK" or some such).
-
Thanks to Loversnacks (Latarnia) for this link to an interesting comparison:

Yeah, I just ordered a copy of VAMPIRE'S NIGHT ORGY/DR JEKYLL & THE WEREWOLF and it went through just fine.
-
Nice one! ::)
-
Yep, I just ordered one no problem. No reply from Bill from my tweet. I fully expect that he'll just retweet it in a couple of days with no reply or context. That seems to be what he normally does.
-
Placed my order on 28th Feb with no hassles but presumably this was before the non-overseas shipping nonsense had kicked in. Really looking forward to this one now that it's confirmed they're both unclothed. Never ordered direct from Code Red before, so hoping for a better experience than RaroUSA.
-
Never had any problem with ordering direct from CR,usually takes about a week from CR to me (I'm located in Belgium) which is very fast imho. :D

Vampires is from a private collector's 35 mm print,Jekyll from 16 mm it seems.
-
God bless the private collector who made this happen, VNO looks very nice.
JEKYLL looks pretty good too, way better than the Sinsister release.
I watched both last night and was very happy, this is a most welcome release.

Yeah, I just ordered a copy of VAMPIRE'S NIGHT ORGY/DR JEKYLL & THE WEREWOLF and it went through just fine.
Went to order one today and it says sold out.
Come on Bruno, you're slacking. Can you reassure us it's just the shop selling out again and there will be more?
"Remember folks, Bill can only put a certain number of them in the shop at any given time" :D
-
I ordered for Marc the day before yesterday and it was back in stock then. Not sure how this fella runs the site or his company for that matter, but the way he operates can't be too great for business.
-
I got my copy of VNO/DJvsWW in the mail yesterday. Super fast shipping since it came from just across the State. Not much to add to what's already been written about this release. I popped the disc into the player this morning to spot check. The video quality isn't going to win any awards, but it looks just fine given the source.

Mine arrived today too. If I'd known about your request I would have filmed myself opening the package for you and then showing the front, back and spine of the DVD box commenting on it in a drony strange voice.
....actually no, FUCK YOU! ;D
Someone else can do it. Why do cunts feel the need to bother doing such things?
No doubt the answer will be "Because they are cunts" :-\
-
Got mine today too
-
"got two new release probably on tuesday. But got very little mailers, so the title will be on sale around thursday" (Bill/CR)
Very happy with one of these since it's a double that includes a film I asked Bill to look into a long time ago, don't know yet what the other will be. ::)

Mine hasn't.
Mine hasn't either and I ordered mine pretty early.
Didn't know about the House of Insane Women release. Pity they chose to pair it with the cut version of Nigt of a Thousand Cats..although admittedly most of the longer footage is of Hugo Stiglitz flying around in his helicopter making it more like an episode of Airwolf than Euro horror.
-
There were shipping delays for some foreign orders.
Something to do with Bill being away from his home base and the local post office not having enough custom forms I think.
But everything is on it's way now.
Of course the time frame in which a package arrives depends on where you live and your local postal service as well.

No news on a release date yet but this newly cut trailer has been put up:

I hope so. I've been hanging on this and won't really have the cash until late next month or May so I need it to turn up late and stick around.
-
There's also some new old stock up at the store!
Which ones do you recommend??
cheers
-
I'd recommend (keep in mind these are personal choices) these from the old stock:
Maria's B-Movie Mayhem: Mardi Gras Massacre (it's like a late 70's take on Blood Feast)
Maria's B-Movie Mayhem: Vampire At Midnight (80's vampire thriller)
Maria's B-Movie Mayhem: Riot on 42nd St. / Bad Girls Dormitory (Tim Kincaid 80's grindhouse action)
GODFATHER SQUAD + BRUCE'S LAST BATTLE (kung-fu spaghetti action flick Godfather Squad has to be seen to be believed and Bruce's last battle is certainly entertaining when in the right mood)
DETECTIVE DOUBLE BILL: BLADE + RING OF DEATH (Blade is ok but Ring of Death looks fantastic and I like this US version)
UNKNOWN COMIC + URBAN LEGENDS + ART OF NUDE BOWLING (Only if you like WEIRD! stuff)
Cut-Throats Nine / Joshua (Double Feature) (best release of Spanish cult western Cut-throats Nine,a film I really like)

...and about this one, any good?? HEATED VENGEANCE
-
That's a newer release:
Philippines/USA, 1985
Directed by: Edward D. Murphy
Stars: Richard Hatch, Jolina Mitchell-Collins, Michael J. Pollard, Robert Walker, Dennis Patrick, Mills Watson, Cameron Dye, Ron Max, J.C. Bernardo, Dido De La Paz, Paquito Salcedo, Art Del Rosario, Gwendolyn Hung, Ronnie Ricketts, Elvie Escaro
Actioner, nothing special but if you like those... :D
Here's an old trailer I found
Heated Vengeance - trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfXYg-0WG5A#)
From the newly pressed re-releases of old titles I'd also recommend these btw:
JULIE DARLING (little girl loves her daddy a bit too much so people start dying)
THE VISITOR (30th Aniversary edition) (deranged "scifi thriller" with lots of eye candy)
WITCHMAKER (DELUXE EDITION) (Atmospheric 70's witchcraft horror set in a swamp)
Exploitation Cinema: Cemetery Girls/ Vampire Hookers (Both 70's:Naschy as Count Dracula/Filipino moody vampire thriller with John Carradine)

Got the new double in the mail and am watching DEMON WITCH CHILD now.
Fans of the film should be pretty happy with the quality of the source print here ( although you'll want to boost the color and maybe shift the tint over ). The co feature is new to me...looking forward to checking it out later.

Were you thinking about combining one of the 3 new releases with VNO/Dr J? :D
-
I've already got the Demon Witch Child one on the way (if it's been posted yet, don't know). There never seems to be two I want to buy at once. I want to get 1000 Cats but don't want to order it on it's own then a couple of days later the Klimovsky becoming available again (What will probably happen is that the Klimovsky one will come back and 1000 cats will sell out ;D ). Just makes it easier on the postage hit that's all.
Do you buy them all Bruno or just certain titles you fancy?
-
I buy them all, always nice to discover new films and I've liked about 95% of CR's output.
Anything of the older titles that you fancy?
I think it could take a while before VNO is back up (I'm guessing here but at least several weeks).
-
Anything of the older titles that you fancy?
A few but not the sort of ones I want to shell out that much for really. I've got the majority of the older ones I would want thats there anyway.
Out of the ones that are showing at the moment I already have:
MARDI GRAS MASSACRE
WACKY TAXI / SUPERARGO
THE GODFATHER SQUAD / BRUCE'S LAST BATTLE
CHALLENGE THE DRAGON / THE NEEDLE AVENGER
BLADE / RING OF DEATH
THE BEING / COPKILLERS
THE PEOPLE WHO OWN THE DARK
IF HE HOLLERS LET HIM GO
DEVIL'S THREE
THE VISITOR
NIGHT OF THE DEMON
THE WITCHMAKER
BLOOD MANIA / LAND OF THE MINOTAUR (Highly disappointed with this release)
CUT THROATS NINE / JOSHUA
-
A lot more CR titles on your shelves than I thought. :D
You might like these?
Julie Darling
Terminal Island (uncut)
Beyond The Door
-
A lot more CR titles on your shelves than I thought.
I've got more, just pointed out the ones I've got that they are showing.
Also got:
THE BLACK KLANSMAN
BRUTE CORPS
GOD'S BLOODY ACRE/TOMCATS
HAUNTED
A LONG RIDE FROM HELL
MESSIAH OF EVIL
LIGHTBLAST
LOVE ME DEADLY / CURIOUS CASE OF THE CAMPUS CORPSE (I think I've got LMD on it's own somewhere too)
NIGHTMARE
PETS
PRIMAL RAGE
THE REDEEMER
SCREAM / BARN OF THE NAKED DEAD
SOLE SURVIVOR
STANLEY
TRAPPED
QUADROON
WEEKEND MURDERS
STONEY / KILLER LIKES CANDY
And these Rareflix ones if they count
KILLER LIKES CANDY
REVENGE OF THE BUSHIDO BLADE
And possibly some more here and there.
-
Nice collection! ::)

Cheers Bruno. No where near yours though.
Are you missing any or do you have them all?

-
3 DVD's and shipping costs to Finland are 26$.. shipping prices definitely are in high end. But there are some very interesting titles back in sale (?).
-
I know shipping isn't cheap but to be fair it's the USPS's fault,not CR's...
The USPS seriously raised their foreign first class shipping rates at the beginning of this year.
-
Old stock is popping up in the CR store...seems even more is coming. :D
Sounds great...any chance to see again in stock Primal Rage and Light Blast??
kind regards

I personally love Mardi Gras Massacre!

Leon Klimovsky's VNO/Jekyll double feature is available once again.
-
Leon Klimovsky's VNO/Jekyll double feature is available once again.
Couldn't have had many more pressed, sold out again.
-
I think that was a false availability, it was not on the cartel for long.
The pressing plant is slow as a snail so hard to imagine they got the double bill re pressed and out the door yet.
Sadly, I have to report that the recent release of INSANE WOMEN suffers from a damaged first reel. Seems to have been broken into 6-7 sections and after the 7 min mark it's shuffled to the point of incoherence.
-
That's really unfortunate,I've been reading up at Latarnia on this...
"The Code Red version looks pretty good most of the time, making the jumbled opening all the more painful.
At the 7 min mark it jumps ahead to the 17 min mark, and procedes back and forth as Reggie described, resulting in an incomprehensible first reel." (John Bernhard)
So about 17 mins are affected.
Btw:
Leon Klimovsky's VNO/Jekyll double feature is available once again + more old stock.

Yeah, apart from the ones appearing at $24.99 a few of the others have crept up a little, just by a dollar or two but gone up.
-
THE FOREST / DON’T GO IN THE WOODS (limited amount)
The Forrest is good??
-
No.
-
I really like Woods but The Forest is so-so,weird one though so scores extra points for that. :D

Let's be honest here. It's fucking boring.

"I think it adds to the atmosphere of the film" ;D
-
;D
-
That's really unfortunate,I've been reading up at Latarnia on this...
B, do you now which version of Night of 1000 Cats it is? I've only ever seen one that was around 75 mins and I know that's not uncut but if it's the approx 60 mins version, do you now what's missing? For some reason I quite like the film and it might actually be better shorter. Please tell me they cut a load of helicopter scenes. :-\
-
It's the US theatrical version (60+ mins).
Here's an extensive comparison with the Spanish version:
http://thelatarniaforums.yuku.com/sreply/158882/NIGHT-OF-A-THOUSAND-CATSHOUSE-OF-INSANE-WOMEN (http://thelatarniaforums.yuku.com/sreply/158882/NIGHT-OF-A-THOUSAND-CATSHOUSE-OF-INSANE-WOMEN)
-
So it looks like the long version just had even more if the silly stuff than the one I've seen. No dances in the 75 min one. I thought it was a bit weird how the first woman just turns up later!
I guess if they cut the helicopter stuff the film would only be 15 mins long?
-
This should be coming really soon from Code Red,it's the rare uncut version (as The Police Connection) fully remastered. ::)

"Uncut version of THE MAD BOMBER called POLICE CONNECTION, recently restored by Code Red in HD from the original uncut 35mm pre-print elements . starring Vince Edwards, Chuck Connors, and Neville Brand!"
Actually reading Bil's old blog post about the upcoming releases, only 2 titles were announced on blu back then I think?
The Electric Chair and The Nail Gun Massacre.

I wasn't thinking that. :D

There are two versions of this film: a soft version [MAD BOMBER] and a hard version [POLICE CONNECTION]. Both versions feature unique footage not in the other. Some of the scenes are shot in "clothed" and "unclothed" variants.
Fantastic film though! :)

GOD'S BLOODY ACRE/TOMCATS
-
Only for the hardcore fans imho. :D
I did enjoy God's Bloody Acre somewhat (more on a second viewing) but the print has seen a lot better days...TOMCATS was only added as a dvd extra really and is from an old tape master.
The original (recalled) God's Bloody Acre dvd was more interesting imo as it offered 2 versions (different masters) of the film.

Ok, I am out of the hospital, and I can slowly try to mail, but not fast as I used to be. So here is the rules right now
Orders will take maybe extra 4 to 5 days to be packed.
Oversea orders will take at least a week to be packed and sent due to customs.
Large orders of 5 or more will take just as long due to the size and weight restrictions, plus gotta find a box for the order.
Bare with me, my body is breaking apart, not as young as I used to be.
If you order, and email me before these time frame listed above asking me if the package has been sent out yet or packed, your order will be CANCELLED and refund issued. I don't have time to deal with inpatient customers right now.
Please understand.

The Police Connection (violent theatrical version of The Mad Bomber).
"It is absolutely the uncut theatrical release version. No, it does not have some footage found in the Geneon DVD titled MAD BOMBER, which is a TV print so severely edited that outtakes and alternate family friendly scenes are used to make the film semi coherent.
The Code Red DVD looks terrific, and thank you very much for restoring it." (John Bernard)

Apparently it's oop now,I don't have it myself.
Do you remember any nudity in that disc Aaron, because there's in the trailer...strange for a tv movie?
Also curious if it will be fullscreen (Image disc was fullscreen I think).
Apparently there will be an Alfredo Leone interview as an extra on the new CR disc.

Can't remember, I should imagine it more than likely was fullscreen if it's a TV movie.

I asked Bill if this would have nude scenes in the new release (as there's nudity in the trailer that popped up):

I think Just Before Dawn and something else are also due out on bluray...
You can actually follow Bill (Code Red) over at the Latarnia forums where they have a whopping seven separate threads dedicated to him, he's also quite an active poster so info tends to appear there quite a while before it appears anywhere else.
http://thelatarniaforums.yuku.com/forums/19/Nightmare-USA/Nightmare-USA#.Uh5YGj8vLIU (http://thelatarniaforums.yuku.com/forums/19/Nightmare-USA/Nightmare-USA#.Uh5YGj8vLIU)
Code Red is a mighty fine label, but man... what is that guy smoking? I've been lurking on those threads for months now and you would think they'd cotton on to the fact that all he does is complain none of his DVD's have sold and that he has a warehouse full of unsold stock. Okay, fine, that's possible - but this has been going on for years and he's been pumping out excellent titles for all that time... and now he's jumping into bluray with quite an impressive splash. Am I the only one who's thinking something doesn't quite make sense here?
Also, can anyone direct me to the forums where he is being attacked (and I quote) "24/7" - I might actually believe him if I could see it with my own eyes.... but something tells me it doesn't exist.
Still, it's a great label, and he's quite a character so all the best to him... especially with Voices From Beyond, because he's probably going to need all the luck he can get with that one.
-
Yep, JUST BEFORE DAWN and THE REDEEMER are also coming out on Blu-Ray in limited editions. I think the limit for Blu-Ray pressings at most houses is 1000 so expect the former to go quite quickly, though aside from Bruno and Latarnia he does little promotion of his titles. I interviewed Bill for my thesis; he's quite the character.

Gold of the Amazon Women review @ Mondo Digital (http://www.mondo-digital.com/goldamazon.html)
-
I would love to get some of the upcoming BDs, but going to the Code Red webstore, I feel a bit hesitant.
Besides my past experience with Bill, where he "complained" to me that he would have to find a box to ship my order, since it included a significant number of titles (I wouldn't call it exactly rude, but he acted like he was doing me a favour by selling me the discs, which was odd, to say the least, especially considering the price I was paying for a couple of his OOP releases), I now see a new text saying, basically: if your discs get damaged, it sucks to be you.
I like some of these films, and I'm all for supporting smaller labels (especially when it comes to seeing these in HD), but with this attitude I can't say I'll be the first in line to get them.
-
Might be an idea if Bill gave us some release dates and specs for the upcoming blu's like if their going to be region A locked or something. Voices From Beyond I would certainly buy and a couple of others too, but more info is need before I start to get too excited.

INVASION OF THE BLOOD FARMERS
This dreadful, but oddly engaging horror Black comedy film from director Ed Adlum (SHRIEK OF THE MUTILATED) and co-writer Ed Kelleher deals with a cult of modern-day Druids on a farm in upstate New York. In order to keep their catatonic queen alive in her glass coffin, the cultists drain the blood from passersby with the aid of some cheap plastic tubing. The leader of the cult is a flamboyantly effeminate priest whose hilariously silly explanations of his beliefs provide most of the film's minimal entertainment value. Outlandish Paul Craig Jennings as Creaton lights up the insane film in this campy cult favorite. Co-produced by Jack Bravman (SNUFF, ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE)

SILENT NIGHT BLOODY NIGHT (aka DEATH HOUSE)
The secrets of a small New England town are violently exposed on Christmas Eve in this proto-slasher shocker. The owner of the long-abandoned Butler estate is desperate to sell, and dispatches his lawyer from New York to negotiate its purchase by the town council. Meanwhile, an inmate from a nearby insane asylum breaks loose and makes his way to the old mansion to take bloody revenge for a crime kept hidden for 35 years. The maniac makes mysterious phone calls to various prominent citizens, telling them that "Marianne" has returned, and lures each to the Butler house to meet their doom. The mayor's daughter, Diane, receives a visit from a man who claims to be Jeremy Butler, the mansion's owner, in town to investigate his lawyer's disappearance. Together they attempt to unravel the sinister mystery of the Butler house, which turns out to be a harrowing tale of incest, insanity and mass murder. Hollywood star Patrick O'Neal (CASTLE KEEP, KREMLIN LETTER), Cult favorites Mary Woronov (EATING RAOUL), John Carradine (GRAPES OF WRATH), Asrid Heeren (CASTLE KEEP). POSSE FROM HEAVEN
Posse From Heaven: A refreshing, exciting look at the celestial forces that influence behavior here on earth.
A bunch of groovy sofa couch potato angels headed by THE PRICE IS RIGHT announcer Rod Roddy watches Tabloid queen/ Argentine firecracker Fanne Foxe strip and dance.
They see a loser cowboy named Appletime (Todd Compton, who directed his scenes!) being discharged from the U.S. Cavalry.
The heavenly forces decide to send him a guardian angel in the person of Gabriel.
Something goes amiss in the transfer, however.
When Gabriel arrives on Earth to complete his mission, he discovers himself to be a horse.
Appletime and Gabriel (now Appletime’s horse) set out to fulfill their destinies.
Firecracker Fanne comes down to earth to try and help Appletime along by singing the gospel of love.
This philosophy backfires as Appletime confronts some train robbers with the six-shooter that he has unloaded.
The train robbers tie him up and escape.
After a series of hilarious escapades in which both Fanne and Gabriel try to influence Appletime’s behavior without too much success, Appletime again confronts the train robbers – this time taking the beautiful young female member of the gang captive.
He is unable to hold the rest of the gang, however, and they ride off, leaving Appletime to cope with the girl.
Two love affairs develop and are culminated: the love affair between Appletime and the outlaw Lola – and the love affair between Gabriel and Lola’s horse.
Fanne does not approve of either.
This mishmash comedy runs like an unfinished movie as Todd “Appletime†Compton takes on the bad guy, James Whitworth (THE HILLS HAVE EYES), in a one-on-one cowboy-style gun battle to rescue Sherry Bain (THE HARD RIDE, WILD RIDERS) in the old west at the Paramount Ranch!

New York Master Martial Artist Luke (Warhawk Tanzania) goes to Hong Kong to earn his next level in the Martial Arts world. He convinces his student Rodan (Wilfredo Roldan) to accompany him. Once they arrive, they come across an ancient burial site and find an amulet that holds a horrific demon creature in its power. Not knowing what the amulet was for, Rodan steals it and takes it back to gang infested New York City, only for the demon to come to New York to find it! The demon travels through the New York city subway tunnels as it preys on it's victims, including Rodan himself! The police think all the killings are a result of gang wars, but Luke soon finds out the terrifying truth and seeks out to avenge the death of his student! Luke must confront the horrifying demon face to face and do battle in the underground subways, where the only train that runs that late is the Devil’s Express! This gritty action, grindhouse, martial-arts, horror classic has finally arrived at the Code Red station! When the film THE WARRIORS was released theatrically, the distributor of DEVIL’S EXPRESS re-titled it as GANG WARS to make it look like a gang fight movie. It took CODE RED DVD many, many years to locate the camera Negatives and the film is now restored in HiDef! Also starring Brother Theodore and David Durston (I DRINK YOUR BLOOD). Directed by Barry Rosen (YUM YUM GIRLS)

Executive producer Mardi Rustam and producer Raphael Nussbaum presents an Al Adamson film! Messed up with multiple men, Sandy (Nesa Renet) tries to kill herself. Co-waitress Libby (Regina Carrol, Ms. Adamson) saves her and takes her to meet some female friends of hers who live on a ranch in the desert. Grace (Jennifer Bishop, MAKO JAWS OF DEATH), the leader of the gang, puts Sandy through her initiation and they get on with the real job of running drugs across the Mexican border, hassling poor farmers, taking any man they please, and generally raising a little hell. Soon, Sandy becomes unsure if this is the life for her, but it may be too late to get out. Russ Tamblyn (WEST SIDE STORY, SATAN'S SADISTS), Lon Chaney Jr. (THE WOLFMAN), Geoffrey Land (REDNECK MILLER), Albert Cole (TERMINAL ISLAND), John Bud Cardos (KINGDOM OF THE SPIDERS), and Jacqueline Cole (ANGELS’ BRIDGADE) co-star. Master taken from the only surviving 35mm we could find in 5 years!
PIRANHA PIRANHA 1972/ PG/ 16x9/1.78:1
Wildlife photographer Terry (Ahna Capri, ENTER THE DRAGON, BROTHERHOOD OF SATAN, PAYDAY, DARKER THAN AMBER) and her brother Art (Tom Simcox, TV's GUNSMOKE) go to Venezuela for a photo shoot. They hire Jim Pendrake to guide them through the jungle. However, the trio run afoul of evil local hunter Caribe (William Smith, RED DAWN, DARKER THAN AMBER, ULTIMATE WARRIOR) . 50's teen heartthrob Peter Brown (RAPE SQUAD) co-stars!
TARZANA THE WILD GIRL 1970 / R/ 16x9/1.78:1
Foxy Femi Benussi plays Tarzana in a low rent italian film co-starring Ken Clark, Beryl Cunninghan, and Franca Polesello, directed by Father Guido Malatesta! Dying 35mm print presented in a grindhouse version - a run to death print in nightmare mode!

"The titles was supposed to be a Maria Host title, and FEMALE BUNCH was another sad Mardi Rustam bad material thing. so minus Maria and throw in FEMALE BUNCH. Like I said in the past, find me a 35mm print and I will re-release it."
Piranha,Piranha and Tarzana look a lot better than The Female Bunch judging from caps.
So keep in mind The Female Bunch is more of an extra on this one. :D
Piranha,Piranha and Tarzana are actually more of interest to me personally.

Looks like Code Red have shut down for the time being because Alamo Drafthouse sent him a cease and desist notice regarding THE VISITOR. Apparently the director offered Bill $3,000 to buy him out of their agreement which he has 3 years left on. He turned it down because he paid much more than that for the rights in the first place so Alamo sent him the legal stuff to stop him releasing the film.
From the Code Red FB page...
ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE send me a CEASE AND DESIST for THE VISITOR! I GOT THREE MORE YEARS AND RICH PRICKS IS COMING AFTER CODE RED. I have to stop business for awhile. MGM do own tv & theatrical. Love to see them send one to them. I paid 10 grand more than they did for this movie. sorry, but code red release are frozen for awhile.
What I don't get is how do Alamo have any legal right to send a cease and desist if Bill still has the rights to the film?
-
Bigger pockets. Better lawyers. I think Bill is nuts but this is bullshit. If it got to court, and he has a signed contract, then he shouldn't need to spend a dime and win the case. But this is the country where OJ Simpson got off.....

I'd be fucking livid if this were me, knowing Bill only from his online persona I don't blame him locking everything down. If it were me I'd take a day or two to calm down then press up as many copies of THE VISITOR as possible and sell them everywhere at the lowest price where I'd make a little bit of profit to smother the market. Do Alamo think they are sitting on a goldmine with this title?
-
When I interviewed Bill, he told me that he paid $25,000 for the rights to VISITOR. While I think that might heave been for a package deal which included the rights to other titles, $3,000 is not much compensation.
Drafthouse have the hipster crowd that will no doubt buy any title given there seal of approval. Would Bill have shifted as many titles of MIAMI CONNECTION as Drafthouse did if he had the rights? I doubt it.
I find Bill's approach to business a little odd, okay, very odd, but the direct sales model appears to be working for him. I was going to buy MACE only to find that it's out of stock. So he is evidently shifting some of his niche titles.
-
Lots of titles back in stock at the CR store. :D
Lawyers are talking about The Visitor.

I'm sure you will be keeping up to date :D

All very odd but do bear in mind that it's an Italian licensor and there's a history of problems with them selling film rights to multiple parties, so this really doesn't come as a shock to me.

Could there be different rights for DVD and Blu Ray?
Could be, Marc is the best person to comment on this but I always assumed the home video rights applied to all formats rather than being just for individual ones. Would seem strange to just be given the rights to DVD?

First 2 blu's are available internationally now.
Make certain you read the new policy regarding overseas shipping before you order.
Also I highly recommend to include a note with your paypal payment saying "please open and secure discs".
According to Bill he ordered region free bd's,we'll have to wait for confirmation to be 100% certain though. :D
-
Thanks Bruno! ordered JUST BEFORE DAWN on Blu, MACE and RETRIBUTION. Wanted DEVIL'S EXPRESS and SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT, but they are sold out. Will have to order those from Diabolik instead.

Theres no way those two are sold out. Its just that Code Red are a VERY STRANGE AND WEIRD company. He keeps putting titles in and out of stock, in my opinion, to raise demand and peak interest so he can sell more fast. Very dubious and dishonest way of selling if you ask me.

And its highly annoying when you go elsewhere and potentially pay more for a title that suddenly he relists as being available.
-
Has anyone requested the use of one of the "cardboard mailers" he mentions on the website?
How is that packaging, and how does that work (in terms of added costs, and in terms of checkout process)?
And that "please open and secure discs" option is a load of crap.
If I wanted to purchase second hand, non-sealed copies, I wouldn't pay what he is asking.

It's not dubious at all,Bill has been away a lot lately and can't take huge amounts of dvd's with him on the road.

A few people complained about damaged/crushed cases so maybe that's why he considered the cardboard mailers.
Getting a crushed case can always happen,I got several over the years (but not from CR).
Reading the message again,I think they're included in the shipping price?
I you don't put "please open and secure" and get a floater, you won't get a replacement.
Floaters are something that can happen so keep that in mind.
I don't mind opened discs as I intend to open and watch them anyway. :D
-

I would understand if this was just lately, but it's been like this since the start.
This is clearly an attempt to maximize shipping charges. When a couple of new titles show up, the recently released go conveniently out-of-stock at the same time.
I wanted to order a couple of items a while back, and looked at the store every day. They were never in stock at the same time, when one was "in stock", the other wasn't.
-
I don't see Bill having a "system" like that, maybe you're reading too much into it. :D

You call that return policy normal, or reasonable?
Frankly, the Code Red store is unlike anything I ever saw online, including other labels.
He shouldn't treat everyone like a scammer who is trying to get to him. He needs his customers, yet he treats them like he is doing us a favour.
Do you know how much a DVD/BD copy costs, in terms of manufacturing costs? Do you know how much he would lose if he had to replace a copy?
To replace a DVD, he would lose less than $1 (before shipping).
Oh, and in my last order from them I did get a couple of crushed DVD cases. Funnily enough, it wasn't because of damage during shipping (it was a large order, shipped in a box), since the broken pieces of the case were missing...
I want those BD, especially Voices from Beyond, but the idea of having to deal with this crap sure makes me think twice.
No offence to you, bdc. I know you like the label and all.
And do understand, I'm not commenting on their releases, but purely on all this crap and "drama" regarding his store.
-
Diabolikdvd are hoping to have the bd's in stock. And their postage charges are cheaper.

Funktion, was it you who placed such a large order he didn't have the packaging, and instead of a thanks for the business he moaned about such a large order being placed?
Yep. ;D
I ordered a number of titles from him, just before he started regularly using the store (he had the store up for a few days, with just 1 or 2 titles, but what I ordered wasn't on the store).
He advertised on twitter and elsewhere that he was looking to sell his stock (a number of retailers returned all Code Red stock to him). I contacted him, he sent me a list with titles and prices, and I selected what I wanted. First, there were a number of days without any reply. I emailed him asking if he received my order, and asking for the total amount, and he said he was busy, and didn't have the time to go to the postal office. A number of days passed, no reply. I contacted him again, and he "complained" that my order was too big, and that he had to find a big box, or even split it into more than a box (it wasn't that big; it was around 8 titles), and only then he could give me an amount.
My order ended up shipping over 2 weeks after I selected my items.
Considering he was practically saying he was ruined when the retailers returned his stock to him (I don't remember why exactly, but it had something to do with a return policy for unsold stock, funnily enough), when asking people if anybody wanted to buy his stock, and considering I paid, if I'm not mistaken, $45 for a sealed copy of the OOP DVD release of Primal Rage alone (not my brightest moment ;D), I would have guessed he would be a bit happier with my order, but even then he surely didn't want to have the "hassle" to sell something.
He doesn't want to do the selling, and he doesn't want to hire someone to do it for him.
I'm not sure what he wants.
Reminds me of my ex-girlfriend... :-\
-
I love following him on Twitter, he can be so rude to his customers & a is little bit bonkers :-\
-
He was complaining the other week that Twitter was quiet and wondering if it was dying off like MySpace.
I pointed out to him that he might want to follow more than 13 people...
He complained about that too.
-
Didn't he complain about having to breath air once? ::)
-
He's upped his prices now for international shipping, plus an additional $1 for a card mailer. Probabaly get my Code Red's from Diabolik in the future.
-
the fact he uses Paypal to process his transaction means that people are automatically entitled for a refund for non-receipt of items. Considering this is very open to abuse, he might want to make sure his orders are all either 1) insured and, or 2) they are all sent with delivery confirmation.
Not sure he is aware of this, judging by his latest "policy" is to not refund for non-receipt.
-
Don't tell him that or he'll ban international orders altogether! He's already blacklisted Canada :-\

He is aware of this. That's why he is always complaining.
But as a customer, I have to ask: why the hell should I care?
I never gave any order to reverse charge anything, I always paid for everything I bought, and I never scammed anyone. Why the hell should I have to listen to this crap?
He is the one who should get his act together, and take appropriate measures regarding his business, instead of bitching to his potential customers.
If he doesn't want to have any work done, he can always hire someone to do it. There are plenty of companies that can handle the whole sale/shipping/customer service aspect, for a minimal cost.
It's a shame. I like supporting these smaller labels, but Bill makes it really hard to care about his company, and releases.
His brother is doing a totally different job with Scorpion Releasing. Maybe he should ask him for some tips on how to run a business.
-
Totally agree. And I was planning to place an order with Code Red sometime soon, when I checked the site, a lot of the titles I was planning on buying are gone. I wonder how long I will have to wait before they show up again?! Its sooo annoying.

I seem to remember Bill mentioning Terry Lofton was a good friend (who passed away in 2011) and he wanted to honor his friend by putting out his only film: NGM in hd.
I personally have a soft spot for it. :D

"Just watched Voices from Beyond. Looks fantastic and such details. There are many tinting filters used in the film from grey to blue to ashen and the video transfer handles each scene without fault." (Philip Dubuc)
"I finished watching "Just Before Dawn" blu-ray from Code Red. I was very satisfied with the picture quality of the uncut version. A very nice improvement compared to the Shriek Show dvd. It was very cool to have the "grindhouse picture quality" for the longer version. The longer version has emulsion lines and audio snap, crackles, and pop. Watching the longer version definitely gives it a 70's atmosphere. The time length for the uncut version is 1:30:33. The time length for the longer version is 1:42:37. Shriek Show's time length is 1:30:02. The aspect ratio for Code Red is 1:78 and Shriek Show is 1:85. You also get two different trailers of JBD. Usually we receive upcoming trailers of upcoming titles from Code Red, but not this time. I'm glad that the blu-ray case is solid and sturdy unlike the typical crappy "environmentally friendly" blu-ray cases that have gigantic punch outs that makes it very easy to puncture the paper sleeves." (Avery Hemming)
Longer version = extended European version btw. :D

CR Bill's madness in his method is probably making sure orders are small enough to fit his boxes rather than buying bigger boxes. He tires me out :-[
Placed my order for the Blu rays, along with a few other stuff. Most of the older discs I wanted had 'sold out', or probably he doesn't have boxes big enough.

$14.99DARIO ARGENTO DOUBLE BILL!
PROBABILITY ZERO 1969 / R RATED / 1.85:1 (16X9)
Horror icon Dario Argento wrote this WWII action film set in Norway. A plane with some top secret cargo (Radar Equipment) was shot down over "Once Occupied Norway". With that technology, the Germans could finally win the war (but only when they can repair it). One of the aircraft captains is seriously injured, but survives the crash and the Germans hide him (so he can regain his strength) in a hospital to get his knowledge about the technology. The Duke (Henry Silva, TRAPPED, JOHNNY COOL) takes over the job to destroy the "Radar Equipment". He and some Norwegian guerrillas are on the perilous mission to stop the Nazis before they win the war! Classic War action directed by Maurizio Lucidi (STREET PEOPLE, STATELINE MOTEL).
SULLIVAN'S MARAUDERS 1968 / PG RATED / 1.85:1 (16X9)
From the mind of Dario Argento and Menahem Golan comes a lean, mean war film! Tough Sgt. Sullivan (Western tough guy Lee Van Cleef) puts together a group of Italian-Americans into disguise as Italian soldiers in order to infiltrate a North African camp held by the Italians. After the soldiers have knived the Italians in their beds, they find a hooker (Marilu Tolo THE GREEK TYCOON) living at the camp. Sullivan's commandos are to hold this camp and its weaponry until an American battalion arrives, all the while these Italian-Americans pretend to be Italian soldiers, often hosting the enemy. Lt. Valli (Jack Kelly, TV's MAVERICK) is a young, "green," by-the-book officer who constantly argues with Sgt. Sullivan, and tells his superior that he has no idea what he is doing. One man on the base, probably a touch from Argento, is an entomologist who is needlessly killed. Things go terribly wrong after that. Marino Mase (ALIEN CONTAMINATION), Duilio Del Prete (VOICES FROM BEYOND), Gotz George, and the loveable Romano Puppo (ENDGAME, AFTER THE FALL OF NEW YORK) co-star. Directed by Armando Crispino (THE DEAD ARE ALIVE, AUTOPSY). This is the shorter theatrical USA cut!

NIGHT OF THE LIVIN' DEAZ UNRATED/2.35:1
George Romero directs this cult classic! The radiation from a fallen satellite might have caused the recently deceased to rise from the grave and seek the living to use as grub. This is the situation that a group of losers penned up in an old farmhouse must deal with. Racial tension escalates as African-American brother Duane Jones tries to tell everyone what to do, and one honky (Karl Hardman) doesn’t want to listen. Code Red is proud to present this classic motion picture in the euro-cut in 2.35:1 Letterbox as many Asian countries viewed it that way. To add some creativity, we did a tribute to Al Adamson by adding color dimension to this historical release.
ZOMBIEZ (aka I EAT YOUR SKIN) PG/ 2.35:1
A bunch of groovy white cancer researchers partying on a remote Caribbean island discover that by treating the black natives with snake venom, they can turn them into egg-eyed zombies with attitude. Soon, they have an army of the soulless brother creatures in order to conquer the world!! Zombies never got as lame as in this 1964 movie that is so intense that it was not released to the theatres until 1971. Now it has become a cult classic since it's on tons of vhs/dvd releases from public domain companies. Its probably meant to be Living Dead not Living Deaz. Code Red quite often has spelling mistakes in their synopsis.

I'm familiar with "Sullivan's Marauders" under its more common moniker "Commandos". A pretty decent little Italian WWII actioner. I've got a sub-par looking version in a budget box set, but it's good to see this get a decent release.

Code Red is proud to present this motion picture in the euro-cut in 2.35:1 Letterbox as many Asian countries viewed it that way. Too add some creativity, we did a tribute to Al Adamson by adding color dimension to this historical release. BOTH SHOWN IN LOLLIPOP COVERMATION
What a load of shit. Anyone who buys into this crap is deluded and has too much money to spend on completing their CODE RED collection.

You're all missing the point, Bill Olsen has clearly stumbled across an old stash of Sandoz Laboratories bottled LSD... probably tucked away in an old grindhouse film print by a hippie back in the mid 60's, no doubt fleeing from the man.
Where do I queue up for a hit? That's all I wanna know!

Can I get a hit of that too?

Bill doesn't need lsd - his sense of reality is already askew.

I'm completely bemused. I could barely understand it if it was going to be in shops so people could at least buy it on some strange whim but you actually have to go to his store and order it?
-
Is Just Before Dawn available from anywhere else? Diabolik doesn't have it listed.
As usual, I wanted to order it with Voices From Beyond, but it's sold out.
Anyone want to bet that, when it's back on stock again, Voices From Beyond will suddenly be listed as sold out? ;D
-
Last I heard, they were trying to cut a deal with Bill to sell them.
-
They've just announced EYE OF THE LABYRINTH. Um... woah!
-
I bet you're gonna buy that Zombiez thing aren't you?
What the fuck is that zombiez thing anyway?
Was gonna ask
The same thing - looks like a proper pile of shit.

bdc, where did you see that these films are public domain?
I found no records of that being the case.
-
I don't know for certain but thought both were public domain in the USA since there were several pd company discs around.
I found at least 5 older US dvd's of Commandos (aka Sullivan's Marauders) and it's also included in some multi pack releases.
Where did you look btw?
-
Got some more info: "SULLIVAN'S MARAUDERS has shown up on several budget labels via a vhs rip, but Code Red's dvd is officially licensed. I'm not sure if PROBABILITY ZERO is public domain." (Waldemar Daninski Facebook)
Looked it up and I think Tom Ward still owns the US rights to Probability Zero.
-
Variety own Probabilita zero.

Variety?
The whole US copyright thing is a mess... :-*
I had a look here btw:

If there were any doubts that Bill purposely lists items as "sold out" on his store when they aren't, to "force" people to fragment their orders, I just noticed something hilarious:
Just Before Dawn BD on Code Red's store:
http://codereddvd.bigcartel.com/product/just-before-dawn-blu-limited-edition-pre-book-will-be-mailed-when-it-comes-out (http://codereddvd.bigcartel.com/product/just-before-dawn-blu-limited-edition-pre-book-will-be-mailed-when-it-comes-out)
SOLD OUT (again)
Just Before Dawn BD on Code Red's Ebay store:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/JUST-BEFORE-DAWN-Limited-Edition-Blu-ray-/161165167846?pt=US_DVD_HD_DVD_Blu_ray&hash=item2586314ce6 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/JUST-BEFORE-DAWN-Limited-Edition-Blu-ray-/161165167846?pt=US_DVD_HD_DVD_Blu_ray&hash=item2586314ce6)
More than 10 available.
:-\ :-\ :-\
-
I don't see the point in explaining again why this really happens.
-
I don't see the point in explaining again why this really happens.
And why is that?
Seriously, I'm curious about the reason why.
I went to the Code Red webstore 2-3 times, to place an order for the 2 Blu-Ray releases, and I've been unable to do so, because when one is available the other isn't. The same thing happened with their bigger DVD releases. I've been unable to place a combined order with the items I wanted, because every time one returns to stock, another gets listed as "sold out".
-
And why is that?
Seriously, I'm curious about the reason why.
Because nothing can be said against Bruno's precious Code Red :-\
-
They're both listed as in stock now.
-
Noticed I didn't explain this on here so here it is:
Code Red has no real webshop, they use a Big Cartel shop (Big Cartel is designed for smaller online shops).
The Big Cartel shop needs to be updated manually each time an item "sells out" in the shop (as it seems quantities are limited in there) and Bill has been on the road for most of the year so he can't carry that many copies with him (meaning he sometimes runs out of copies while away from home).
He's very busy so sometimes he doesn't update the shop / doesn't have time to pack and ship or doesn't have copies with him anymore so he doesn't put anything up.
The key is patience,if you wait a couple of days they'll probably pop back up.
If you keep in mind CR is basically a one man operation it's maybe understandable that their shop is a bit less organised than other webshops.
And it's not my precious Code Red Aaron. ;D
It would be nice to see a little praise for CR from time to time though. :D
-
"COMMANDO I got from Bryanston and ZERO I got it from Picturemedia. two companies with old argento films. (:" (Bill/CR)
-
It would be nice to see a little praise for CR from time to time though. :D
I hope I didn't sound too negative. :D
Like I said in the past, I don't have any major issues with CR's releases (and I own quite a few of them), but the way he handles sales since he started doing direct-sales only is perplexing.
If he can't handles things, either because he doesn't have the time, or the patience, to handle it (and customer service), he should consider the several alternatives available.
There are plenty of companies that, for a minimal fee, handle this part of the business.
-
I hope I didn't sound too negative. :D
No worries mate. :D
-
And it's not my precious Code Red Aaron. ;D

They're not Arrow, I do like and buy Code Red products. It's just the way he carries on sometimes that gets me :D
-
The Facebook code red forum is awash with entertainment! Either from Bill himself or the deluge of sniping and backbitting with each other! Really at the end of the day, if you want code red prodcut, you pretty much have to go along with what Bill wants, it is frustrating though at times.

New and some restocked Code Red titles happening now over at Diabolik dvd.

Bill must have gone mental letting someone talk like that on his behalf.. I know he must be dealing with some dicks but that's a bit much.
Then you've got the reverse on there. The 'I don't know what the problem is... I waited 4 weeks for an order from so and so....' lot. I swear any minute I'm going to read something like 'I'd happily wait 6 years for my latest Code Red package to arrive. If it never showed up I'd just have to chalk it off to bad luck or the postal service. Oh well, I don't mind losing money. If it happened again and again I'd still gladly order direct from Bill'.
-
All the stuff I buy from EBay private sellers usually arrives within two weeks. It's stuff from the big boys which can take much longer. I've had 2 or 3 items arrive out of the blue, opened them and thought 'Blimey! I'd forgotten I'd ordered that!'. :-*
-

She's his girlfriend as far as I'm aware.
-
He's dating Nekromistress is he?
-
A mate asked me to place an order for four titles the other day and all four of them were not permitted to ship to the UK - so I guess Allison's post sheds some light on his international shipping hiatus :-\
-
I don't think he and Allison are dating. I think they just hang out a bit occasionally. I get the impression she doesn't see him a lot from her posts, but i could be wrong. I read his posts about international shipping and i believe he said that he'll resume shipping internationally shorty. I guess you can always order from Diabolik instead if they cover that title.
-

And there we see why Code Red has a problem with its web shop and stock levels. Ordering titles ad hoc from a duplicator to fill holes in its catalogue which have sold out. Not surprised items go in and out of stock regularly.

The licensors double sold the film, effectively ignoring that CR had the rights for 3 more years.
Like in this case, Bill has said he won't deal with the Italians any more because they have double sold rights he bought on more than one occasion. That's our loss from these clowns that ask outrageous prices for rights and then sell you out.
-

Did they? Or did Code Red just not have the BR rights?
We maybe get a skewed view of things as everything is taken as read direct from the horses mouth (CR Bill).

CR also had the US blu rights.
The Italians also sold Drafthouse the US tv rights, which are already owned by a major US studio. ::)
-
CR could not have bought the Blu Ray nor the streaming/digital copy rights. If they did then they could levy a cease and desist order against Drafthouse, regardless if the licenser double sold the product. As can be seen from this forthcoming pack shot, Drafthouse will be releasing this without a DVD copy included as per Code Red's ownership of DVD distribution rights throughout the US.

I won't double dip on this. It's a crazy one of a kind film, but no favorite of mine and I was quite pleased with the CR DVD. But that is one awesome cover! As is their cover for Ms. 45 by the way (to stray a bit off topic):

Drafthouse acknowledge CR's dvd rights after sending them a cease and desist about their dvd release some time ago. Great. :D

4 new titles at the bigcartel store today, and LOVE BUTCHER is back with a lower price tag @ 13.99 ( w/ a reprinted cover ) and haven't a clue why, but it saved me $6.00. Of the new ones, I blind bought DEATH PROMISE...was looking at the Silva flick but not sure about it. FOXBAT as a title alone was scaring me away...is that one any good?

FOXBAT is a 70s spy film directed by Bond director Terence Young, its ok, has a couple of nice set pieces, like Silva fight a sumo in a sauna. I'll be getting copy because I only have an old vhs of it.

There's no shipping to Europe for the new bd's yet, US pre-book only for the moment, international will follow.
You can always wait for them to pop up at Diabolik.

He should be the subject of a fly-on-the-wall reality show.
It would be amazing.

LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!
-
Poor Bill had a nervous breakdown because of all the hard work he has to do. ???
Considering that, once again, I've been working for 2 straight weeks, and I'll be working every day until, at the very least, the end of the month, 14-16 straight hours, all days (including Sundays and holidays), I really have to laugh at that pathetic "maggot" comment, especially since I'm not earning $25.000 in the process (more like, 1/25th of that).
He really should hire someone to do his PR, or at the very least, keep his mouth shut.
-
LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN!
You know it - there's plenty of comedy gold to be mined.
-
He really should hire someone to do his PR, or at the very least, keep his mouth shut.
In a perverse kind of way it is PR - it's the total reverse of what any other company would do to drum up interest in its products but we'd be lying of we said we didn't find it all entertaining. We just keep coming back for more.
-
We just keep coming back for more.
Well, to be honest he just makes me want to skip his products, even when it's films I want. And this coming from someone who likes to "support" smaller labels.
I recently ordered his BDs, but it's been 2 years or so since I purchased anything from him, exactly because of his customer services skills. I interacted with him once, and it was enough.
His brother seems to be his doppelgänger... :-\
-
That's why I'm starting to wonder if he is some kind of misunderstood PR genius
-
Nah, he's just a whiney little bitch.
-

Have you ever tried winding him up on Twitter or are you happy with the amount of reactionary nonsense he's spouting without doing it?

I've had a few digs at him where he complains that Twitter is dead and I've pointed out that he only follows 13 people. Do you want me to annoy him more? You seem to be wanting to piss him off vicariously through me. Not that it bothers me

So, basically, thanks guys, I appreciate the support and sales. That is, unless you buy a single title. If you do, that is totally not worth my time, so you go screw yourselves.
-
I was just ordering Probability Zero, but after seeing this, I'm not sure now what to get for the 2nd order. Probably Foxbat.
-
Just buy them from Diabolik instead, Farmer J.
Did anyone see Bill's other rant:
Another DVD label and the rights owner of Horror film received a registered letter from German high court over the sale of that horror film (BLU) to one German individual, as the movie was BANNED in Germany in 1982. DVD Label never sold this Blu to this man nor did USA DVD LABEL have German rights. Most likely this person bought it off Amazon or some other site and the German high court is pointing their finger to a US DVD label and its rights owner who has nothing to do with this. This could be a sick prank by another DVD label, but using the German court as a joke isn't funny. CODE RED’s lawyer strongly warns that any film BANNED in any country should not be shipped outside of the USA/CANADA, which means any Video Nasty film that was ever BANNED will no longer be shipped outside of North America. Sorry for this, but one rotten apple killed the spreading of exploitation movies across the world. This also means I can not sell these horror film 3rd party sellers."
You been winding him up, Rich? ;) Sounds like bullshit to me; there's no way NIGHTMARE MAKER would be deemed obscene over here.
I'm watching the SAVAGE STREETS Blu-Ray at the moment. A coked up, braless Linda Blair looks amazing in HD.

Code Red is still going strong, swirling controversy & surprise releases with equal aplomb.
Another batch of titles slipped out this week, featuring surprise titles like AMUCK & PSYCHO FROM TEXAS, not sure where Bruno is but figured I'd post the covers.

I used to buy from Bill's Big Cartel site all the time and have collected most of the code reds that i could manage to get. I live in the uk and it stinks that the he decides to only post to the U.S now , as all the worldwide support he had and he threw it back in our faces. He certainly doesn't care about customers or fans. Sorry for the rant but it has left me bitter , apart from that Hope everyone on here has a good christmas :).
-
He's mentally unbalanced. Everything is everyone else's fault. Synapse and Vinegar Syndrome are trying to shut him down. Complains that he's just spent $200 on postage (postage which his customers paid for at inflated rates). Complains about missing packages but doesn't think that perhaps his manner of posting isn't exactly beneficial to covering his arse. Complains that he has to do everything himself despite offers of help from people. Titles don't sell, but are never made available to buy. Sold too many titles and now has to pack everything. Blah blah blah.
-
Couldn't agree with you more Kevin , i did laugh when he mentioned that it is due to rights issues that he can't post to the UK and his solicitors advised him not to post to UK either :(. Lets hope for some nice releases from other labels next year.

I'm not a Bruno sticking up for Code Red whatever tip but if you message him he will still send stuff :D

I can't be arsed jumping through hoops just to get discs off him.

I asked him about Police Connection the other day and he said he doesn't have rights to sell it to the UK. And when it was up for sale hardly anyone from the UK bought it.
So.. erm.. which is it?
He deleted a couple of my threads so I'm probably on his shitlist now. Not that it's a problem really as I can just use another email address. The benefits of not using your real name on the net.
-
I just asked on one of the threads if he will start posting to the U.K. again and he asked me to pm him, I did and he send he'd send if you buy at least 3 or 4, told him what I wanted and he sent a paypal invoice, maybe I caught him at a good time?
-
As it goes I've just gone down to half pay so I'm not really in a position to buy anything for another couple of months or so unless I start flogging stuff off to pay for it. I really can't be arsed with his histrionics and whingeing though.

Couldn't have said it better.
I have his first 7 BD releases, but after what happened with the Nightmare BD, I'm not wasting my time, or money, to support this idiot.
First, I was supposed to keep checking the website, to see if it was up, and not in maintenance. If it was up, I had to prey for the titles to be available as "in stock".
Now, I'm also supposed to contact him. All, in order to pay inflated prices, with inflated shipping, for the laziest releases possible (no menus, rarely any extras, bad compression, ...). Not to mention the discs look like their were made in a back alley, since they are frequently already scratched (even if still sealed), and the covers usually have such poor quality my printer would print out something better. And all the while while having to read his descriptions where he keeps insulting his customers, and knowing if something gets lost or damaged during shipping, I'm shit out of luck.
No thanks, I prefer to support labels who actually put effort in his releases, while not treating their customers like retards. Labels like Vinegar Syndrome.
I'm surprised you are willing to tolerate this crap, Tanzi. You boycott a label like Arrow, because a couple of idiots that used to promote the label insulted you (and I fully respect that), but don't have a problem with a moron that insults pretty much everyone, from his customers outside of the US (which are apparently all scammers), to customers who dare ask him questions, not to mention of course representatives of other labels.

I had a good laugh at that chaps :P
I have emailed Bill many times and he has not even bothered to reply , i agree why jump through hoops to buy his stuff. A lot of the new releases are tempting but having heard about the poor version of Amuck and the 15 min of Italian lang with no eng subs on super stooges vs wonder woman. It just goes to show the movies are getting rushed out and does he bother to even check the final disc content?!. I was suprised when i bought Voices from beyond BD to find that it had no menu and my chapter skip didn't work on the disc either. It may have been suggested before but i wish there was a blog where people could vent their angry views on Bill and his attitude. Anyway sorry again chaps all this anger is no good before christmas. ???

There's a hell of a lot more to my hatred of Arrow than a couple of their old promoters insulting me but that was a part of it.
Like I said, I'm not on a Bruno mission sticking up fro Bill, just saying what my experience is, yes it is a pain in the arse to try and get his stuff, yes he is a loon etc etc, I've just not had any bad experiences myself, but in future I will wait till Diabolik get the stuff in though, because it's always in the back of my mind with each order "what if they don't turn up"?, will he think I'm full of shit? But luckily that hasn't happened.

Tons of better labels out there worthy of support than Code Red whose output is 70% obscure shite anyway (there's good obscure shit and then there's just shit - which most of these titles are). Sometimes I feel that the only reason why he is championed so heavily is because of his independent, DIY ethos which some (blindly) think he deserves instant kudos and respect and choose to ignore that his business savvy is non-existent and tolerate his shit service just in case he stops putting out more crappy, scratched lost 70s US 'gems'. There are about a dozen or so really great titles in the catalogue but the rest is frankly not worth the bother and shit you have to go through to get them.

Exactly why i don't bother with them any more! One BR i wanted was the Voices of Beyond, but couldn't be bothered with the drama...lol I sold my last DVD on ebay for 30 quid though...wish i bought more!!

Looking forward to THE DEVIL'S WEDDING NIGHT!
Me too, and Night Child (I prefer The Cursed Medallion as the title though), never heard of that other one but it looks interesting.
-
Looking forward to them too, not looking forward to the hoops you have to go through to buy them.
-
Per usual with code Red's demented marketing strategy, the first installment of 3 packs sold out in 1 hr, and he'll have more available sometime this week. Bill had been moaning all week @ bluRay that these were weak titles & then they sell out in a flash. Hopefully by the time they split up for individual sales there will be a solid review or two as to the quality of the sources and transfers. I know it's absurd to complain about how he runs his business, he has never taken one word of advice to heart and will never change...but damn if is not still annoying.

Bill's business plan is tried and tested and never changes... his words are the same, the complaints are the same - and they haven't changed for the last fifty years.
Listen closely and you can hear his highly sophisticated marketing strategy here:

-
Why should he change? People keep putting up with his crap, and keep buying his releases.
He puts a movie on a BD disc, without any effort to provide much in the way of quality (no menus, underwhelming transfers with poor compression, "brand new" discs full of scratches, covers that look like a poor photocopy), and yet due to the self-imposed scarcity, people keep purchasing his releases, at ridiculous prices.
Heck, he even pulls crap such as selling the titles as a bundle-only, people complain, and yet they still purchase them.
With so many worthwhile releases, from so many worthwhile labels, why support people like Bill?
For less than the price of one of his BD's, you can currently purchase, for example, the The Cat O'Nine Tails / Deep Red / Inferno, or the City of the Living Dead / The House by the Cemetery / The New York Ripper BD sets from Blue Underground. Or the recent The Beyond BD + CD set from Grindhouse Releasing. Or one of the Bava releases from Arrow. Or one of the Vinegar Syndrome BDs with 4k transfers. All without jumping through hoops.
-
Will probably get that Mark Damon film.
Have the Night Child already on 2 DVDs so don't need it again. Also don't reckon it will be that much of an upgrade.
That 3rd one looks suspect and im not prepared to buy any more of CR's dross so will wait for a review or three.
-
That 3rd one looks suspect
What makes you think that?
-
Does he really need more commercials here ? the guy's an asshole and don't deserves a single support !
Let's hope 88 films or another serious label will release Devils wedding night !
-
I certainly wouldn't call 88 films "a serious label"
-

Next to Code Red, they are the Criterion of the genre. ;D

Lots of people buy all the above and still want more, that's why.
For all the warts. blisters and skidmarks, Code Red releases titles no one else touches.
This remains their main value to the fans of genre filmdom. MAD BOMBER,LOVE BUTCHER, DEVIL'S EXPRESS, BUTCHER BAKER, WITCHMAKER, BABYSITTER, VAMPIRE'S NIGHT ORGY ect, ect....the list goes on & on. Maybe not the best sources & technical specs every time, but by far the best versions of so many obscure films the so called big guys wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole.
That said, I did feel burned by a blind buy of DEATH MACHINE ( and a few others too ), no way every title is a winner for everyone. THE OBSESSED ONE has a great trailer for example, but something tells me if I blind buy that one I'll regret it.

I think Code Red do a fantastic job releasing films nobody else would (babybreese put it so much better) - and while his 'marketing' skills are a tad strange, I don't think it should put anyone off supporting Bill's efforts.
Just wait for the discs to pop up on eBay or Diabolik and avoid any 'Code Red' discussions on forums, etc. You're buying the films because you want to see them - not because of the company that released them, surely?
-
That 3rd one looks suspect
What makes you think that?
Ive bought too many of CR'S 5th rate "Blaxploitation" films to even risk another. "Devils Express"..blech. Not much better than home movies. Im thinking that will be another one. Of course I could be wrong.
-
Just wait for the discs to pop up on eBay for extortionate amounts or Diabolik when the cock crows at dawn once in a blue moon and avoid any 'Code Red' discussions on forums, etc. You're trying to buy the films because you want to see them - not because of the company that released them, surely?
:-\
-
::)
Or wait his prints to be bootlegged elsewhere ! Sure he release great stuff but sadly he's keeping 70 % for himself ! :-\
Thought 88 films were serious, i don't have any discs yet but all the slasher collection, italian line look too be must have ! same as late Arrow in a way !

Damn - will wait for the inevitable stocking at Diabolik.
Was saying to Tanzi yesterday, Bill releases some decent titles, too bad he's impossible to deal with. Does he still only ship to the US? I really don't keep up with it any more and wouldn't buy direct from him if he did - he's such a rude cunt. He clearly loves these films, which is a plus, but he needs someone else to be the face of his company - someone with better social skills than a badger that's been kicked to death's door.
-
Damn - will wait for the inevitable stocking at Diabolik.
Same here, can't be arsed playing his silly games.
-
He is seriously considering trying out Screen Archives for either this current limited batch of BD's , or the next limited batch. This was discussed a few days over at bluray forum, with Bill participating in the back and forth.
Diabolik gets them in 50 count spurts & sells out even faster than the cartel has been doing, so the SAE thing might be sweet relief for overseas customers if it pans out.
I did get an order for the new 3 pack and will drop a note as to how they look, especially anxious to see Rosalba Neri areolas in HD. ;D
-
The twat always moans about how bad his business is doing and how no one buys his DVD's, but won't sell to overseas and makes it as ridiculously difficult as humanly possibly to obtain the stuff he puts out. He has the business sense of a retarded 3 year old. :(
-
But somehow also be able to complain about how many orders he has to ship.
It's a rare talent. :-*
-
He's a rare bird.
I always remember seeing the photo of him & his brother shared here a few years ago....if a picture was ever worth a thousand words, that one is in the running for first place.
I agree he's as loony as a jailbird, but do like a bunch of his releases. And I do not believe he is a happy person, and seems to have a never ending series of legit physical ailments & issues. No doubt it is not a barrel of laughs being Bill Olsen.
I find labels like Shout! & Arrow ( and their sycophants ) three times as annoying Bill and the Code Red devotees.

Yeah nothing exciting at all recently apart from that one. There's certainly an odd frenzy generated by Code Red releases, people snaffle any and all releases up like Goan toilet pigs gobbling up turds.
-

Same here, not a big fan of these post nuke's.
DEVIL'S WEDDING NIGHT was briefly on the Cartel solo yesterday but sold out fast. Diabolik mentioned yesterday they are set to have some soon along with other CR product ( the other euro titles, Milligans ect )....but not sure when. Could be today, Monday....and they have sold incredibly fast when there before.
I have DEVIL'S WEDDING NIGHT and it looks better than any other release to me. But it does have a nasty damaged section, and it happens to be during the lesbo tangling / blood bath sequence which is the absolute worst section of the film to bear this odd staining.
Looks less like a scratch & more like the actual Devil's Wedding load :-*
I can't take Blucaps but did snap a couple pics, not great for judging the film's image.
See 30 caps here for that:

Watched The Night Child yesterday, not sure to call it an upgrade, there's more details but we still have that horrible ntsc blurry touch !

Code Red announced via FB today they have Argento's OPERA coming.
As BU has the DVD rights, this is gonna be BLu baby! Word is Walter ( Scorpion ) will help with extras. The controversy & moaning has already kicked off, but I can't see why this can't be a major success...a new scan, new extras, and sold via Screen Archives.
-
And Koch in Germany are releasing it too. Will need to a new scan if the Japanese Blu is anything to go by.

I can see why people are worried though, I know I am. Code Red do a decent job of releasing obscure films, but there's is little or no restoration done. I watched The Eerie Midnight Show the other night and that left quite a bit to be desired in terms of quality. I would have much preferred Synapse to get a hold of this.

I'll wait for reviews before deciding, then again I read reviews for THE DEVILS WEDDING NIGHT and thought they sounded OK about the transfer only to be very disappointed with it when I watched it.

I'll wait to see what it's like, already got the Japanese one.

If they were MondoDigital reviews, they always are positive about ALL Code Red releases. I think in case he refuses to send them anymore free "review" copies if they slate his releases. Lol.

There could be something in that! It was a Mondo review that swayed me!

Surprises me that he got this one, to be honest. I have the Japanese release too, I'd be very surprised if CR's is any better. Would be happy to be proved otherwise.

that review also totally understates the yellow piss streak which leads me to think they are being disingenuous.
myself Im glad I bought that release, its otherwise decent, good detail etc. but marred by the yellow/orange streak for probably 20 minutes of the run time. wont hold my breath for a better one.
-
It's just been announced that they will also be releasing The Church.
-
Has it? Has it really?
-
Looks like it could be Bill fucking about saying he's going to releases Opera and The Church. The posts on facebook have gone.
-
That guy comes across as a right cunt.
-
I believe he has these 2 titles, and supposedly 1 more Italian film came in a 3 film package he licensed. Don May confirmed OPERA is with CR through 2020, & brother Walt has also confirmed OPERA is with CR.
I was also not happy with the DEVILS'S JIZZ STREAK, especially as it was right down the middle of the Rosalba Neri lesbian & bloodbath section of the film. Bill can't fix a crap source, but with OPERA, if he gets a new scan done, no doubt the elements in good condition and the BD has every chance of being very good.
I'd like to see CR use a BD50 for a change, but that's my biggest fear for OPERA.
-
That guy comes across as a right cunt.
Yep. Added to the fact Opera would cost about £35 upwards, he can fuck off. I can live without this
-
House on the edge of the park too, should be the third title !
Btw i'll be happy to wait for the Kock Media traditional stunning mediabook, can't compete with german company ! ::)
-

In fairness, if it goes through Screen Archives it should be under £25 shipped.
I'll be waiting for the Koch release though probably. Hopefully they'll do a good job. Their upcoming Bird With The Crystal Plumage isn't English friendly though from all the listings I've seen.

How would it cost that much unless it was from some eBay scalper?

Overestimated postage. Corrected above

If it's mint and given the full HD restoration treatment I'll pony up £35. The thing is it probably won't be and realistically about £25 from Diabolik
-
I imagine the Koch release will be around £30. As Jonny says, providing it's quality, I don't mind paying for it.
-
The 3 film deal is confirmed to be OPERA, THE CHURCH & THE SECT.
HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK is currently being worked on according to a post yesterday by Bill @ Bluray.com.
The Koch BD of OPERA does sound interesting though, no matter how nice Code Red's transfer is the German release is likely to have more & different bonus materials. Getting 2 versions of the film itself would be nice as well.

More Cod Red Blu's coming from everyone's favorite releasing company :'(

LEGACY OF SATAN (1974) 69min
Seductive witches perform black magic and Satanic rituals in this horrifying tale of sexual murder. Calling upon dark evil forces these sexy priestesses of the devil lure their unsuspecting victims into the fires of a living hell. Cast: Lisa Christian, John Francis, Christa Helm, Ann Paul, and LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT star Sandra Peabody. Director of Photography by Joao Fernandez! Directed by Gerard (Deep Throat) Damiano. PRODUCED BY LOU PERRY (aka Louis "butchie: Peraino) CODE RED mastered this motion pictures from the surviving C.R.I 35mm! Longer 35mm print surface which marks an official home video debut in the USA! SICILIAN CONNECTION!
COMING IN SEPT 15th on Blu-ray
The Sicilian Connection was a multinational programmer designed to cash in on the success of Oscar Winning The Godfather and French Connection and place it in Grindhouse crime style! Nightclub owner Joe (Award winning Ben Gazzara, SAINT JACK, THEY ALL LAUGHED, INCHON) becomes involved with drug trafficking. What we know (but the villains don't) is that Benny is actually going to double cross them and the car chase and action is going to start! The tension level noticeably sags until the showdown denouement. International beauty Silva Monti (THE BRAIN) , space sexy Malisa Longo (STAR ODYSSEY, BATTLE OF THE PLANET), loveable Fausto Tozzi (STREET PEOPLE), Brute Jess Hahn (BAD MAN'S RIVER, and outlandish USA actor Steffren Zacharias (who played touching role of papa in an award winning part in EXTERMINATOR 2) center is deadly cast of international professionals! Most of Code Red's output is shit these days unfortunately
-
Not a lot have appealed to me either the last 6 months or so, but then again I have felt this way about the titles they release all along. They are so scattershot all over the genre map, I only want 10-15 % their catalog.
I'd say most of what every company releases is shit.....the good movies in any category are few and far between.
-
I'm very happy about Sweet Sixteen. I've never seen Trick or Treats, but I intended to buy the DVD, until the store stopped shipping outside of the US. So I'm happy it's getting an upgrade. Now I just need upgrades for The Love Butcher and Curse Of The Blue Lights (providing they end up SAE titles) and I'll not have missed anything I wanted.
-
I would not bother with TRICK OR TREATS or CURSE OF THE BLUE LIGHTS. I love 1980's and Halloween-themed horror as much as the next guy but these two were a waste of money even for me.
SWEET SIXTEEN is a different matter entirely and im looking forward to the Blu ray provided its decent.
-
I didn't bother with CURSE OF THE BLUE LIGHTS the first time round, it looks utter shit, and not in a good way.
-
Its not even horror, its like a kids film, and not even a good one ;D

Forgot to say earlier, don't fancy TRICK OR TREATS, not sure about that SWEET SIXTEEN, but do want to check out THE CHEERLEADERS.

DEADLY HERO is coming and they posted a picture of Lenzi doing an interview for an upcoming, as yet to be named title.
-
I wish these Spanish ones went to SAE.
-
I do too, it would translate to better sales as more customers would be aware of them.
Sadly Screen Archives does not want to touch previously released titles, despite people asking them to, they only want 'exclusive' releases. :(

Who said that, Bill?
They've got quite a few Blu's that Code Red put out before on DVD and some of them are ones released very recently too.
-
Yeah, I thought it was just stuff Bill had already released and had stock they weren't touching. I heard some of the Cotmsn stuff sells shit and it's very U.S.-centric so I'd have thought the other three would be much better to give to SAE..
-
Some of those blus look interesting. I had Silk on VHS for years, so a Blu is a nice surprise.
Just wondering, does Bill do Blu and DVD combo's or just Blu-Rays in these releases?

I was confused, as blob mentioned, mostly they don't want anything that has been sold via the Cartel, but even still there are exceptions to that ( MARY MARY, ect ). It is a vague and confusing stance SAE have taken.
They've got quite a few Blu's that Code Red put out before on DVD and some of them are ones released very recently too.

Any thoughts on the last Corman bundle flicks ? I enjoyed the previous Santiago but these don't look great in my mind, too much nineties for me !

Only one out the three is 90's. and that's early at '91. The other two are mid 80's.

Nice write up on the new BD of PEOPLE WHO OWN THE DARK looking at the BD vs. the DVD release.
http://www.dvdexotica.com/2015/12/the-people-who-own-dark-code-reds.html (http://www.dvdexotica.com/2015/12/the-people-who-own-dark-code-reds.html)
I am OK with this one, at least it's a complete print, but had severe fade which was only corrected to a degree. The other 2 BD's were color corrected and both look worse to me color wise ( they are from the same source seen on the DVD releases ).
No idea if the source for PEOPLE could have been colored to achieve a better end result, but am pretty positive the other 2 should have been left alone as opposed to what was done to them. I posted some comparative caps at Latarnia in the Spanish folder.

I watched PEOPLE WHO OWN THE DARK and wish it were in better condition, but find it preferable to the DVD edition.
-
I imagine picture detail on "People" and "VNO" will be higher than that of the DVD edition...
-
Thanks for posting those screen caps at Latarnia forums Babybreese, they helped me make my mind up not to buy those other two. I will get PWOTD though.
Of those new releases BRUTE CORPS is a good film but not sure if I will upgrade I only bought the DVD last year.
-
Picked up the blu of L'ossessa recently. A revelation after all those shite VHS and DVD transfers. But the choice of title is unforgivable.
-
Having watched VAMPIRE'S NIGHT ORGY BD I can report that this is from an unadvertised new source, much cleaner than the print transferred for the DVD. Colors have occasional issues but overall I am very happy with this upgrade, the film looks much better here.
CUT THROATS is also from a different print than the DVD, but haven't watched much of it yet.
-

I ordered Black Gestapo, Truck Stop Women and Devil Times Five, might get the Fred's at a later late. No idea if that Forest is any good or not or if it's just another shitty horror.
-
I think Truck Stop Women and Devil Times Five look worthwhile. I heard good things about Devil Times Five and I like Roger Corman drive in movies. Black Gestapo is most likely shit but I will probably get it out of interest.
The Fred Williamson movies are pretty low rent, Mean Johnny Barrows is the better of the 2. Death Journey is pretty bad IMO. Id watch Mean Johnny first and decide on the other. Most likely youll not bother :-\
The Forest from what ive heard is a below average horror, a "barrel-scraper", so Bill's specialism really.
And I already got Police Connection and Weekend Murders. They are not worth upgrading from the DVD as they are not significantly better.
-
Just Black Gestapo and Devil Times Five for me for now. I was away when Diabolic had Police Connection and VNO but I have the DVDs still. Weekend Murders I sold a while back and haven't really missed it. I'd be tempted to give it one final try if it was cheap but that won't happen. Always found it hard to get into the more comedic parts.
Always heard bad things about The Forest and again I'd be vaguely tempted if it was cheap but I think that's the one Bill has bought worldwide rights to so again, that won't happen.
-

I used to have an old Iver tape of The Black Gestapo, good cheesy fun. I like the 70's output from Mark L. Lester I've seen so that's why I want to give Truck Stop Women a go, Devil Times Five I've not seen before but like you I've heard good things about it.

more odball BD's popped up today at the Cartel

I must admit, they both look proper shit. :-\
I had a very slight interest in maybe Nightfall if I could ever get it dirt cheap until I decided to read it's IMDB reviews.

Code Red hardly release anything good these days. Bill likes to bring out the "drive-in" shit he loves; mostly a load of old tosh. Hopefully he'll get his arse into gear and bring out that "House on the edge of the park" blu that's been promised.
-
Finally was around to order People Who Own The Dark and Love Butcher. No Vampires Night Orgy though at Diabolik.

Cartel by end of the week, Diabolik has pre orders ready. NECRO was up briefly today but was removed.
-
Fuckin' hell. Never thought to see Family Honor out this century. I'll be picking that up ASAP. which site has better shipping rates to the UK, Diabolik or Screen Archives Ent? I've got accounts on both sites, but rarely use them.

Think they're going to be Diabolik and Big Cartel only. More expensive then Screen Archives but quicker. The state of the pound isn't helping.
The rate he's chucking them out can't be helping him, not that he's ever been any different. I make that around 40 BD's in the past 12 months plus some DVD's? I'm in for Necromancy as I'm a sucker for occult films and probably Family Honor but I'll have to wait and see.
-
Cheers Blob. I'm just sick of being teased by the trailer for "Family" on so many of his releases, plus I am a big fan of 70's gangster films. Now we just need a release his other long awaited film, "The Farmer". That looked like a great revenge film.
-
Got in an order fro NECROMANCY & TRUCK STOP WOMEN, and now 3 more titles are prepping and soon to be released

Bill chooses some great timing for these releases. Pre ordered Family Honor, bought a copy of Silk, and another favorite from my want list, Maniac is finally getting a proper release :)
-
A rare Code Red must have for me, coming end of the year or early 2017.
A new 2K scan will be done for this!

Family Honor was shipped out today :).
I'm dying to know if it was worth the wait!

The Director uploaded it on youtube in 4 parts a while ago. Bill's commented on it telling him to take it down as it would "Kill his sales" ???.
-
The Director uploaded it on youtube in 4 parts a while ago. Bill's commented on it telling him to take it down as it would "Kill his sales" ???.
Yeah because of all 130-odd views of part 4, haha! I'll give it a whirl. The trailer always looked good but I've read some lacklustre reviews of the film and one of the disc that makes it sound awful. 16mm and badly cropped. I understand there's nothing else available but I'm not expecting much detail-wise and it might have been just as good on DVD.
While better than the old DVD, I'm not sure People Who Own The Dark was up to scratch either. That's some soft, washed-out faded transfer.
-
I never picked up People Who Own The Dark, due to being rather disappointed with some of the other releases, being really dark transfers, aspect ratio mix ups, etc. While there some diamonds in the rough (The Fred Williamson double bill and the Mad Bomber ::)), I rarely buy his blu rays, and this was my second Code Red Blu Ray, the first being Silk, due to them never having any releases on hard copy anywhere else in the world.
-
I nearly gave up after an hour of Family Honor when something finally happened. I'll do the rest tomorrow.
I've got a decent amount of his BD's and there are some goodies coming up but there's been a lot of tat and he seems ever more satisfied in chucking out some subpar transfers to satisfy his cheerleaders at Blu-ray.com.
-
I noticed that with some of those recent new double bill dvds. Quite a few bad transfers.
I must admit, I'm looking forward to Maniac aka The Ransom, that looks promising, a man dressed up as an Indian Chief going on a killing spree, while Oliver Reed and Stuart Whitman try to stop him. I just hope the transfer is not shite. There's a trailer for it on youtube as Maniac and the quality looks great.
Now all thats left is to release The Farmer on Blu, or DVD, depending on Bill's mood :D.
-
He's got Almost Human. It scares me when he gets something like that, haha. Using the shit US poster as well. I'm hoping the supposed FilmArt release will be English-friendly. Certainly won't be any more expensive.
-

Nothing special but it's enjoyable enough, came out here on tape on Guild with the title Ransom.
-
I am a big Reed and Whitman fan, they have this rare talent of making any film watchable ;D. Plus, Paul Kolso is always a welcome sight as a villain or weasley thug eg, Mr Majestyk.

Cry of a Prostitute announced on blu.
Again, scary. Wasn't the CO release shelved because of elements not being up to snuff?
It was indeed! Be interested to see what Code Red come up with!
-
"Code Red's transfer for LAST SURVIVOR, ALMOST HUMAN, & CRY OF THE PROSTITUTE will be taken directly from the original, uncensored, Italian negative."
Not sure yet whether it's 2K scans or just telecines.
(https://s32.postimg.org/i4rxag7v5/almost.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/i4rxag7v5/) (https://s32.postimg.org/chvkcz5ch/cry.jpg) (https://postimg.org/image/chvkcz5ch/)
-
Being done by the Italian licensor I'm assuming. I have a feeling if they're just HD telecines then their primary intent could be for HD broadcast.
-
Keep them Italian titles coming, Bill ::)

i've never bought a CR release before, and only ever seen bits of conversations about the label, so although i know diabolikdvd is the place for me to go (I'm in the UK) i'm hesitant about how it will all work out when it comes to the likely wait until release ('almost human' first for me), pricing, difficulty in quantity made and limitations of quality for such a very small label.
-
Well, I'm UK based aswell, and Diabolik is quite good, usually takes exactly 1 week for my stuff to arrive, which beats US Amazon, Oldies.com, and many other International posting sites for me. The pricing comes to about 15 dollars for International shipping to the UK.

-
And another one getting a decent release.
Speaking of which, Family Honor turned up yesterday. Quality ranges from lots scratches and speckles, to almost clear. The film itself? I liked it, but its a slow burner type of revenge, as with the opening scene, it takes a good 45-50 minutes on to start up with the actual vengeance. Its very gritty though, so much so you could put it out front and use it as your drive :'(. There's a great shootout towards the end, in which the protagonist tapes ammo to his chest, and keeps two shells in his mouth while firing sometimes :).
Overall, seeing as this film has not been seen in so many years, and the quality is quite good, I enjoyed it. Just a shame there were no widescreen versions, but the 1:66:1 is good enough, considering its rarity.

Along with the other 1078 titles he announced last week ;D
-
House on the Edge of the Park is supposedly around over the next week or so.
-
Plant delays announced for HOUSE and a few others, BLACK CANDLES was considered porn and they refused to press that one. So off to a different plant, and meanwhile another announcement! Bill wrote if this is a hot seller more Italian will be engaged.

Noob question. Is there a central place listing when these are released? And what is the best place to buy these from?
-
Well, Bill is a bit odd with this, as some of them can be bought from: Screenarchivesentertainment.com
DiabolikDVD
His own site Big Cartel, just look up Code Red Big Cartel on google. However Bill does not ship outside the States anymore, so best chances are the first two if you're not in America.

Looks like I'll go for one of those dvd sites. I've used both in the past. :-X

It seems to be the case that what CR titles go to one of them don't go to the other.

That's odd. Good to know.

Its very annoying for certain titles, for instance I want to get Maniac, but he only sells it from his own site, and whenever a Code Red film turns up on Ebay, the buggers always want half the world's gold for them. Arseholes.
-
Maniac should be on Diabolik soon. They were preselling it only as part of initial bundles of 4 or 5 titles but I think it'll go up on its own when that stock arrives.
Just waiting for Necromancy and Vampires Night Orgy to arrive and then I'll probably have to do another order next week or whenever Maniac and House on the Edge of the Patk are in.
-
Sounds like a nightmare to get Code Red disks. Are the blus good quality?
-

From the CR FB page
NECROMANCY has almost sold out, & Bill has chosen to not to repress, & make the title OOP. Diabolik, & a few 3rd party sellers, should be receiving the last copies this week. Grab it while you can!

It's on the way. One thing I much prefer about Diabolik over SAE is full tracking. It landed in the UK today so should have it on Monday.

The announcements keep coming, and more and more Italian titles, but none of them out yet. I am trying to figure out how this new approach is going to bite Banana Man in the peel.

I reckon he's got them alright, just stating the fact far too early, obviously one a company gets the rights to something it takes time to get them released, look how many people thought he was full of shit about releasing House By The Edge Of The Park crying about it not being out yet and has he even got it etc, and now it's out.
-
Is it any better than the Italian blu?
-
I have no heard a peep yet.....it may be the same transfer with new color correction.
Poster at Bluray has it but has not posted any details yet.
-
Maniac and House On The Edge Of The Park are in stock now at Diabolik to order separately. Not a lot of stock though in this first batch. Less than 40 left of each right now.
-
You can see caps from the Italian and the CR discs here....same master but CR polished a turd. It's as good as this weak scan can get I imagine.

He don't like italian titles (bad seller) but keep releasing loads of em ! :-\
-
The Italian titles have only yet begun to flow, and there are 57 unreleased / announced titles on their Coming Soon sheet.
So , what next?
Yesterday saw the tease of THE MUMMY'S REVENGE, a highly sought after Paul Naschy film.
With word that more Spanish horror is in the pipeline.
-

Hahahaha, just ignore him, he claim that everything i a bad seller ;D
-
Naschy Mania begins!
Bill has gotten the Naschy bug but good, these three titles plus MARK OF THE WOLFMAN has been officially 'leaked' as a 4th in this sudden flood of titles.. New scans as well, he's flying the elements over from Spain to do transfers at home.
Mondo has 2 Naschy's coming ( INQUISITION due in March )
Code Red has at least 4 we know of so far
2 more are coming from somewhere else
( Mirek @ Latarnia has been hired to write liners ).
That's 8 Naschy flicks on Blu + Dorado has DISCO ROJO somewhere in their pipeline.

-
Looking forward to these, how many titles does he have on the list waiting to be released so far now?
-
Only a mere 60 titles when you add these in. MARK OF THE WOLFMAN would make 61.
The CR thread @ Bluray has covers for all existing & future releases, the guy does a great job keeping it current. CR got 40+ titles out last year, but says these Naschy Blus will be out in 2017. More Naschy news to come...

I'm holding off ordering Cry of a Prostitute until I know what version it is. The full length Italian version has scenes that have no English dub track, at least in all the versions I've seen. When I did the fan version I couldn't find any sources for the extra scenes in English so had to subtitle them.
-
Anyone picked up Cry of a Prostitute yet?
-
The CR blu-ray of Chi Sei? (aka Beyond the Door) seems to have slipped out without any fanfare:
http://videowatchdog.blogspot.co.uk/2017/07/beyond-door-reviewed.html (http://videowatchdog.blogspot.co.uk/2017/07/beyond-door-reviewed.html)
Needless to say, ordered in a heartbeat. God help me, I love that one. The film The Exorcist could have been.
