SPECIAL FEATURES:
- Beautiful 1080p high-definition presentation
- Original English dubbed audio
- Optional subtitles (SDH),
- Original Italian audio with newly translated English
-
I'll definitely be having one of these - the Japanese DVD leaves a lot to be desired - the English audio is appalling.
-
I'll be all over this like flies on shit!
-
I have the Sollima box set from Koch Media... but happy to upgrade this film

As an amateur to the world of Spaghetti Westerns is this one worth a blind buy?

Yes,Yes,Yes!
-
Not a release I would expect from Eureka, but it's a very welcome release indeed.
The presence of both Italian and English audio tracks makes this a pretty sweet release indeed. :)

What the Inspector said... Yes, yes, and yes!
One of the finest Italian Westerns ever made... and a great primer for the genre.

For some reason it's not even on the Eureka website yet, you can normally pre-order from there.

For some reason it's not even on the Eureka website yet, you can normally pre-order from there.
The pre-orders aren't done at their "regular" website (I believe they don't sell anything from there), but through a special link given to mailing list subscribers (I posted the last few on this forum). The last one was sent at the end of August: http://www.eurekavideo.co.uk/offers/augustoffers.html
They are yet to open pre-orders for their October titles (which should happen this week, based on past emails, which were sent at the end of the previous month), so they will probably only start accepting pre-orders for November titles next month.

I got Paranoiac from there.

As some of you may have read (I told Paul on the phone the other day but forgot to post about it) the Eureka Blu Ray looks like it was going to be the short version, a member from the Spaghetti Western DataBase contacted them and this is the reply they recieved:
"Hiya,
We're searching for materials at the moment and we've postponed the release for a few months. Thanks for your interest!
Best wishes,
Nick Wrigley
Founder & Director"
Well worth the wait if they are sorting it for the longer cut of the film ;)
-
I got Paranoiac from there.
Are you sure it was from their main website, and not from the section of the mailing list link (for example, here's the latest one: http://www.eurekavideo.co.uk/offers/octoberoffers.html)?
What I meant is this special section where you can order their releases, while hosted on their server, isn't part of the main website. You can't access it from the main website, you have to follow the link (which is usually posted all over the net on internet forums, I myself previously posted a few here).

No idea, I used a link from google, I thought it was their site myself, didn't realise it was from their mailing list link, regardless I couldn't find it to order from Eureka themselves. :D

They usually only have pre-orders for titles coming out at the end of the current month. The October link I posted, the latest, has the pre-orders for this month's titles. Faccia a Faccia, if it was going to be out on November, would only be up to pre-order early next month, on the next link.
The next link should include a release I'm really looking forward to: Metropolis. 8)

Great news Aarron, I read on a French blog there actually is a longer version French DVD out there, so it must be possible to get a longer release.

At least their honest enough to cancel, rather than putting out a sub-par product. I'll probably still buy the DVD because I'm not at all happy with the Japanese release.
-
Sad news!
-
I'm just glad that it's still coming out and not canned altogether. I've not upgraded to a Blu-Ray player yet so as long as it's still touching down in January I'm happy.
-
Shame.this and the new arrow 'battle royale ' are what finally made me commit and start saving for a blu ray player :)
-
Shame but happy to stick with my Sollima box set from Koch

DVD has now moved to 21st February.
-
The BD is back on. Actually, the release will be a dual-format version (2 discs: a BD and a DVD):

Hopefully, it will be fully uncut.

Fuck sake, I came to terms with it not coming out only for them to announce it again :-[
-
I'm sure it will happen, it’s just a case of being patient. Again.

I have not seen this film before and was really looking forward to it,other than the koch sollima boxset, are there any other worthwhile releases of this?i know there are a few out there but need some idea of what would be the best disc to pick up.

I have the OOP Japanese disc and it's pretty shit, in all honest. The soundtrack is almost inaudible.
I would suggest you just hang tight and wait for the Eureka release.

I have the remastered french dvd!
french and italian audio with french subs!

Bone, I was really looking forward to this, just picked up Koch's release of 'Big Gundown' and was going to watch the whole trilogy.

Its only inaudible in the opening scene of the english track, really. Italian track was fine for me.

Over at Criterionforum.org, Eureka's Peerpee wrote -
"We bit off more than we could chew (and it wasn't cooked properly). Sorry.
All hope is not lost, but we thought it best to take it off the schedule completely instead of continuing to muck about."
So it sounds like they're on the hunt for better materials or something. Maybe it'll pop up again down the track - it needs a good release.

All production issues have now been resolved for the following title, so has now be rescheduled for release – details below
PRESS RELEASE: FACCIA A FACCIA, a film by Sergio SOLLIMA is to be released on DVD ONLY on 20 June 2011
- Long-awaited spaghetti western - a beloved classic of aficionados - never before released to an English speaking market on DVD
- Starring Italian legends Tomas Milian (Traffic, JFK) and Gian Maria Volonte (Le Cercle Rouge, A Fistful of Dollars)
- Directed by spaghetti western maestro Sergio Sollima (The Big Gundown, Run Man Run, Revolver, Violent City)
- Music by the legendary Ennio Morricone (The Good The Bad and the Ugly, Cinema Paradiso)
- Featuring English and Italian soundtracks, both fully subtitled
SYNOPSIS:
One of the best films from Italian genre master Sergio Sollima (The Big Gundown), Faccia a Faccia (Face to Face ) is a gangbusting western saga and a gripping parable of the rise of fascism. Upstanding history professor Brad Fletcher (played by the incomparable Gian Maria Volonte) is forced into retirement by his poor health and moves west for the warmer climate. Almost as soon as he arrives, however, he is taken hostage by famed bandit Solomon Bennett (the great Tomas Milian) in an accidental confrontation, and by necessity is forced to take up with his cohorts. But the learned man's growing identification with the gang encourages him to stage a takeover from Bennett, and a new crueller system of leadership is put into place.
Produced by Sergio Leone's longtime partner Alberto Grimaldi, featuring stunning Techniscope cinematography, and a pounding score by il maestro Ennio Morricone, this long-requested Italian western makes its first appearance on Blu-ray anywhere in the world from a beautiful high-definition master, with both English and Italian soundtracks.
Faccia a Faccia (Face to Face ) is to be released as on DVD on 20 June 2011

I would imagine the material were too shitty for an HD release.
I'll check the reviews before I buy this - I'm interested most about the sound because, as I've mentioned before, the English audio on the Japanese disc is terrible. I'm sure this release is going to be leaps and bounds above the one from Japan.
-
Really want this, but a bit wary that they might announce a BR disc 3 months down the line.
-
The press release still mentions it receiving the first bluray release anywhere in the world. Probably a mistake. Shame, but at least it's coming out on DVD.
-
bugger
-
Shame but respect Eureka for not pushing ahead with a blu-ray release using inferior elements. Think I'll stick with my Koch Sollima box set, though

If the blu ray never surfaces I'll pick up the dvd if I see it cheap in the future, I've already got The Koch box and the Japanese Macaroni Bible so I'm not shelling out full price for a third edition unless it's blu.

A revised version of the press release was sent out, correcting that and emphasizing that it was indeed DVD only.

got the check disc today. 107 minute version in Italian with English subtitles.

i've not seen it mentioned as an issue yet (since yesterday's reveal), but i remember MoC were to issue this on BD and went for DVD only - they couldn't find a print that gave them a good enough transfer to warrant BD, if i remember correctly - so i will be interested to see how this one was done, how well it works out.
... great week for SW announcements on BD though!
-
Let's hope it's a new transfer but gut instinct tells me its not as Kino does not have the same level of quality control as Eureka - you can see from some of the stuff the company has licenced from MGM, great titles that other companies would have grabbed first if the transfer had been up to snuff.
-
I'm guessing the American version will be a new transfer. Eureka released the Italian version only, and that seemed to be the one for which Grimaldi could not provide a satisfactory master. The Italian will be in SD on Kino.
-

Let's hope so!

yes, one issue is that kino has a mixed rep for transfer quality, the other is have they managed to source a print better than the one MoC managed to locate before their release.
i usually put anything of interest on a list that's predominantly provisional, until I've seen a review or two.
-
I don't think they secured a better source. The Italian version is still in SD. I don't think Eureka intended to release the American version for their edition.
