This has been announced as Shameless release SHAM034.
There's no way the BBFC will pass this uncut so it's a bit of a wasted effort to be honest.
-
I hang my head in shame and admit i have never seen it.
-
Do we really need another release of this one?
I've already got the EC and AYP discs so i really can't see myself bothering with it again unless they include something halfway special to make it worth forking out for.
-
The Shameless DVD will have an all new introduction from David Hess plus an all new interview with him.
-
I'm not biggest fan of "Last House" style films. Is this a cracker and worth a watch? Is it really rough?

Out of all the Euro Cult actors and directors I've met at various fests and stuff over the years he was the only one I thought was a bit of an asshole.

It's definitely worth watching Broonage. It's pure Italo-sleaze gold and, IMHO, no more contentious than Last House on the Left . Plus it's got some great disco cues in there!

Couldn't agree more Stephen.

I know exactly what you mean Stephen.
But to be honest whats the percentage ratio of Shameless releases that have already been out or not on disc before.

He seemed bored when I met him and wasn't the most welcoming of people. Everything seemed a chore to him.

"Hi my names David Hess, and welcome the the all new shameless fan BBFC approved edition of Deodato's masterpiece in a special shameless edition never seen in the U.K. before*"
*= i.e. not as long as the pre-cert but longer than any previous U.K. version available on disc before ;D
I can see all the speel now...
"Great job Shameless, I feel so much more comfortable watching it with some of the more graphic scenes removed, I'm gonna buy one to watch and one to keep sealed, keep up the good work" :P
-
Thanks Ben.
I went into Hitchhike thinking it was another Last House rip (not a fan!), and left the film with a grin thinking it was one of the best films I had seen last year. Hess plays a real evil fecker in that one.

Just got the Cinekult/CG Home Video bluray of this, and have only had time to look at it briefly. The bluray does look better than my old DVD, but if you have big issues with excessive DNR then stay far away. The BD has that waxy filtered look that many Italian genre films released by Arrow and Blue Underground has. Another thing to note is that while the case mentions "inglese Dolby Digital 2.0" the disc menus only have the options of Italian DD 2.0 or Italian DTS HD 2.0 (I believe it was). There are english subs though, so that's no biggie for me.
-
AssaultSuit is spot on, the Italian Blu-Ray looks shite; excessive noise reduction galore.
-
Code Red BD...
Pain in the arse to buy coupled with probably using the same master as the Italian BD and probably not the best encoded, should be a winner all round.
-
If they use the Italian master it'll be a trainwreck. But if it's something better, I'll be very interested, & will wait for reviews to decide what to do. You never know what CR is gonna do until it's been done.
Word is CR is also eyeballing these 4 titles for possible BD release
Fulci's DEVIL'S HONEY (1986)
Deodato's BODY COUNT (1986)
Deodato's JUNGLE HOLOCAUST (1977)
Frank Agrama's DAWN OF THE MUMMY (1981)

I think Bill has said he will be working with those fucktards from LVR :(

We have to say a word about this LVR hate. LVR is one of our two preferred labs in Italy since they actually do a really great job. In terms of HD-masters, MARIALÉ and COME CANI ARRABBIATI were done by them, and I guess you can't say these are hack jobs. They will also be doing our upcoming WHAT HAVE THEY DONE TO YOUR DAUGHTERS? as well as many other projects we have in the pipline.
The trick is to be involved in the process right from the start, and tell them exactly what you want them to do. But you have to do that with every other lab, so that's not LVR's fault, but personal preference.
The bad lab in Italy is another one, which we try to avoid, and which continues to do catastrophic work. If tha one's involved, you really have a reason to worry.
-
Let's face it, Bill doesn't seem to have a good word to say about anyone, anyway.

Well, I really don't get it, some of Raro's releases are made by them and they are just fucking awful, with that terrible scanner noise etc. I didn't notice that noise and fake grain on your blu-rays. So if no one tells them they don't want the scanner noise, the LVR guys will leave it intact, did I get you right?
-
The Raro releases are from the other lab, at least the really shitty ones.
The problem is the excessive noise reduction which is easier to do than a nuanced cleaning job. We also retouch every transfer we make ourselves by hand since not everything can be done with automatic cleaning if you do it like this.
-
That would explain a lot! It's strange how Fulci's Devils Honey could get a blu releases but its never appeared on US or UK DVD.
-
Raro's "Nightmare City" looked like it had been DNR'd to fuck. Very disappointing that one. Their releases do seem to be very hit and miss. "Killer Cop" looked great though imo

Why is it strange? Happens a fair bit with all kinds of films.
-
With all due respect, Jamiouse, a lot of what you say seems to be derived from guessing, mate.
As Tanzi says, there are stacks of great films that have debuted on Blu-ray.
-
But given the mad rush for Fulci titles back in the day with Blue Underground, Shriek Show etc Devils Honey seemed to get missed. Even EC Entertainment didn't put it out on dvd and they released virtually everything Fulci directed in the 80's and early 90's on disc. Just seems a bit funny to me that Devils Honey could make it's home release debut on blu, I'd always thought the rights must have been silly money or the print was in really bad condition.
But anyway, to pick up from Camera Obscuras post it seems that studios have to basically tell LVR and other labs exactly what they do and don't want ie. DNR and scanner noise. That just sounds crazy, if your paying the labs to produce a HD master for you you'd expect it to be the best the lab can create without adding scanner noise and macro blocking.

Also Meet Him And Die and Stunt Squad. Absolutely garbage releases.

^^ There are other Fulci film that have yet to see an official DVD release in the US too, BEATRICE CENCI being the most obvious. Stepping away from Fulci, FIVE DAYS OF MILAN has not had an English-friendly release and being an Argento film you'd think it ripe for someone, anyone to release it but sometimes it's a case of "is it any good" or "will it make money" - if the answer to one of those questions is "no" it's a gamble but both then it's less likely to get picked up. The market has shrunk so much since the mid-noughties that expensive licencing are seldom an issue with these films now, it's more of a case of making sure every release brings in the bucks.

I've heard the issue isn't with the scans that LVR produce but is what the labels do with the results.

So did plenty of his other titles too to be fair.
-
There was an Asian DVD. It was hardly ignored. It was just the usual culprits that got the widespread releases.

I've got that disc, Hong Kong or Taiwan, if memory serves. Pretty shitty release.

Yeah it's Hong Kong.
Some people just don't search out of their comfort zone away from Arrow, Shameless (and now 88) and maybe a few of the more know U.S. distributor's though and just summise they didn't come out anywhere else.

MEET HIM AND DIE I would agree with, STUNT SQUAD not so much. Though not perfect, it was a clear step up in terms of colour and clarity over the DVD

Good to know LVR can be guided if baby stepped through a transfer ( ie: have someone knowledgeable tell them how to do their job ).
So what's the name of the 'bad' lab so we can direct our collective ire in the proper direction? :-*
