They're better than the old Eileen Daly stuff (sorry Marc!) but I think these covers still look cheap, IMO. There's amazing original artwork out there.

Is Redemption not a UK company anymore? Maybe I should put USA in the header too?

Although the company is UK based they've always been international in some way or another, whether it be the Benelux video releases in the 90s or linking up with distributors in various countries.

Just had an email from Nigel Wingrove pimping his upcoming wares. As well as the already known about ZOMBIE LAKE, OASIS OF THE ZOMBIES and ZETA ONE, he also says that GRAPES OF DEATH and NIGHT OF THE HUNTED will be available Feb/March. There's been no announced date on those two titles previously has there?
Title: Re: Redemption (International)

Nigel owns the Rollin library and most of the titles already issued on DVD (Cold Eyes of Fear, Sinful Nuns etc)

I know that (although he doesn't own the last two films Rollin made does he?). But up until now no date had been announced for those two titles and this was the first mention they were coming so soon.

Blimey o Riley! This proves that Redemption don't have a PR department!

Doesn't really add up does it? I always associated Redemption with free thinking and liberality. What happened, was he raped by a gang of Abdullahs or something, at the end of the VHS era?

Title: Re: Redemption (International)
Post by: Terence on 23 Dec 2013 - 12:10
I'm a little annoyed that Redemption have decided to call the director's cut of "A Virgin Among the Living Dead" "Christina, Princess of Eroticism" instead of "The Night of the Shooting Stars" like Jess Franco intended. They even went so far as to digitally superimpose the title "CHRISTINA, PRINCESS OF EROTICISM" (in English no less) onto the opening credits. It's important to note that this silly title should ONLY be used in reference to the Alice Arno orgy scene (which they moved to the extras). Why else would the film be titled 'Princess of Eroticism' if not to refer to the princess who conducts an orgy in the sex insert? Tim Lucas said that the reason they used this stupid title is because of a contract formed by Eurocine's lawyers.

Another anomaly is the fact that they accidentally left an erotic insert (the one where Howard and Carmenze have sex) in the director's cut. Seriously, did no one double-check at all to make sure that all the unwarranted inserts were removed? Then again, they didn't really bother to clean up the video. It's still an improvement over past releases (it doesn't have that yellow look which the DVDs have). Newcomers won't notice these problems but it's still rather unprofessional.

I guess as an educational tool it might prove useful to some historians, but I'm kind of thinking; "Why not just write the thing and publish it yourself?" It isn't that hard to create a .pdf, and it's a lot easier to create a website.

Like many kickstarter campaigns that have come before it, there's zero mention of exactly why he needs £30,000? (To put that in perspective, that's a year's salary to some, more than two year's salary to most where I'm living in Italy...) Remember the Video Watchdog fundraiser? If you broke the costs down, that was something like $1000 to simply scan a copy of the magazine and add some hyperlinks. And you wonder why it didn't reach its goal?

Seriously, write it, create a website, chuck a Paypal button on the page and distribute it digitally - end of story. If you really love the subject matter then that's probably what you'd do... otherwise you should probably explain in minute detail where every scrap of that money you're asking for is actually going?

Seems like nobody gets out of bed nowadays unless there's money involved...

Next week I'll be starting a kickstarter campaign called "Merlin makes a fucking cup of tea". The rewards will be plenty, and when I reach my target of £100,000 I will go downstairs and make a cup of tea, possibly with sugar, certainly with a drop of milk.

Do you have any idea how expensive it is to make a cup of tea nowadays?

Just my two (rambling) cents.

God I really hope he's not featured on the new video nasties documentary as this effectively makes him much worse than the authorities he'd be interviewed about.....and where's that £30,000 going, to UKip the BNP or worse !

Anyone looking to pick up Franco's DR ORLOFF'S MONSTER should be advised the new Blu ray from Redemption is in fact not the French version per the on screen title.
This is an odd cut down missing the nudity and most of the 1st attack plus all of the 2nd attack.

This is not mentioned anywhere on the package, & Tim Lucas does a commentary and completely overlooks this glaring error.  The famed Video Watchdog seems to have completely lost his edge ( for a price it seems ).

The old Image DVD contains the proper French version, cropped and PAL, but complete.
The Blu runs 4 + minutes shorter and even misses Franco's cameo.

A super shitty blu ray in my book...buyer beware.
