Title: Fantastikal Diabolikal Supermen - WildEye
Post by: Jonny on 06 Dec 2011 - 13:40
"During the early 1960s, Italy was gripped by a new craze: adult comic books, known as fumetti neri, which pushed out the boat in terms of sex and violence. Characters such as Diabolik, Kriminal and Sadik became household names, not least because of repeated concerns voiced about their dubious morality in the conservative press. And film producers, never slow to spot a trend, quickly leapt on the bandwagon.

Fantastikal, Diabolikal Supermen is the first ever English language book to cover the curious genre that resulted. As well as including detailed reviews of over 30 films, from better known titles like Diabolik to obscurities such as The Devil’s Man and Three Supermen of the West, it also examines them in the light of the wider Italian film industry at the time, detailing how the cine-fumetti related to other trends such as Eurospy films and Spaghetti Westerns.

Featuring relevant excerpts from interviews with the actors and directors concerned and lavishly illustrated with numerous lobby cards, photos and posters, this is an invaluable reference guide to an otherwise ignored and forgotten cinematic phenomenon"

Yeah im really pleased with it,i was expecting something a little smaller, perhaps like the midnight media booklets but with a higher page count,so was really surprised when it turned up and was a larger format book.I dont know if i missed it in the book somewhere but do you guys know what film the cover image is from?

Does anyone have the euro spy guide?

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!

Hopefully we'll get enough sales to do the next couple of books I have planned (and pretty much wrapped up).  I've got a big one on actor Giorgio Ardisson lined up for next; and then after that there's one you'll all be interested in, the first part in a series of intended books on Italian crime films, covering from 1945 to 1969.  But it all depends on selling enough of each issue to finance the next.

The cover... that's a bit of a trick!  It's not actually an Italian spy film, it's from an Italian locandina for Santo contra los asesinos de la mafia, aka Argos il fantastico superman.  But it's such a cool image I just had to use it...

This sounds very cool.I've always liked Giorgio and his films, from the more well known stuff like THE VIRGIN OF BALI to the real oddities such as EROTIC FAMILY and I MERCENARI RACCONTO.Always great fun to watch.
Keep up the good work,Matt. :P
