Title: The Asphyx (Peter Newbrook, 1973)
Post by: Inspector Tanzi on 23 Apr 2012 - 17:08
Really enjoyed this British horror, a really good original story. The print on the Redemption Blu Ray looks absolutely fantastic.

Starring Robert Stephens and Robert Powell.

The Odeon DVD has a ton of extras - how does this stack up?

Me neither.

It's excellent. Really good memories of seeing it late night on TV when I was a kid.

Hopefully I should have my copy of the BD soon. It was a definite unexpected pleasure when announced and I only had the old AB disc before. Got it for under £9 all in from Amazon Marketplace on release day.

This whole Redemption/Kino deal is one of the best things that's happened to Blu-Ray so far. Some titles, good or bad, that I never even imagined would show up

The BD looks amazing! Forgot just how much I love this film. Worth every penny and a bit more I'd say.

The extended footage on the BD looks quite ropey in comparison to the rest of the film. How is it on the Odeon dvd?

The same i would imagine,if memory serves me right, the extended scenes are cropped(possibly) and from a tape source(possibly).sorry for such a vague answer, i have not commited myself to anything there have i,will take another look and report back.
The actual restored stuff looks fantastic though,i cant imagine myself getting the blu ray

No weirder than Martin Kemp directing an Expose remake!

Has anyone seen this one? Came out on DVD this year and I keep meaning to check it out just to see but it's something I want to buy for a quid because it scares me...

Anyone for The Sorcerers with Danny Dyer?

All from the same company, part-owned by Kemp and they seem a bit obsessed with remaking old Brit horrors. I wonder if Asphyx and Sorcerers will actually ever get off the ground. What does the FB post say? Are they filming?

Someone just mentions it there. There doesn't seem to be any recent news on the remake happening so hopefully it's died a death.

I don't mind him but it definitely sounds like a miscast.

the original really is a superb film.

was there any other news on who the rest of the cast was.
personally i could not see the remake living up to the original.
