Got a dvd-r of this a couple of months ago and I enjoyed it immensely, it's one of those Brit Films with a unique atmosphere that you can't pin down. It's a really strange little thriller/black comedy to be sure but it's well worth watching.
-
I thought I had read this was getting a DVD release soon along with other lesser known brit films particulary from Hammer's vaults like there STRANGLERS OF BOMBAY ::), TERROR OF THE TONGS and others.

Redemption/Jezebel were supposedly putting it out but it's all gone cold of late and the word on the street is that it's not going to happen.

DAMN! :-[

I've seen the Salvation schedule and it goes through to October/November, and there's no mention of it.
-
This has now been completely taken off the schedule by Redemption. What a bunch of tossers they are... >:(
-
Just got a watchable copy of this from a Swedish (?) VHS.

Really looking forward to finally seeing this one.
-
Jonny, I have originals of the American and Dutch video releases. Both are much nicer looking than your screen caps above.
-
I'll not watch the copy I have then. In fact it's now in the bin :P
-
The other title Redemption were going to release alongside GIRLY was Alan Gibson's GOODBYE GEMINI (1970). I also have the American and Dutch video releases of this one too. The US title is TWINSANITY.
-
What about WHAT BECAME OF JACK AND JILL? I heard this was somewhat similar or related to GIRLY.
-
That is one bizarre and twisted movie. Quite nasty - and very dark. Have you seen it? It stars Vanessa Howard, who was also in GIRLY - other than that they're not really related. It's a Twentieth Century-Fox Film and I very much doubt they'll be issuing this one any time soon. I got a copy of a guy in the US who transferred his original 16mm print to video.
-
I haven't seen it but its in ETC's catalogue so its probably a copy of that 16mm version.
-
That's better! An upgrade arrived today in the form of a copy from the NTSC VHS, titled 'Girly'

Just watching it now and was wondering... The house featured in this is Oakley Court. Were the interiors actually filmed inside Oakley Court for this? Looks like it is to me, very good sets if it isn't.
-
Very minor spoilers ahead...
There's a scene in this where Sonny bashes out a door panel with an axe, as the occupant of the room is trying to escape. All through the scene I'm thinking this is ripping off 'The Shining' but then I realised this film was made 10 years earlier than Kubrick's and when the panel finally gives way Sonny pops his head through the panel and shouts - in his best Brit schoolboy accent - "Hello!"
Funny how when we see a door being bashed in with an axe and then a face poking through it we always seem to think of Kubrick's film isn't it?
-
A rather odd but enjoyable movie - agreed?
-
Agreed.
I really rate it actually and would dare say it's in my top 10 favourite films. The way the characters talk, using children's playground speak is one aspect I really liked.
"You remember Tony Chestnut?"
"Toe, Knee, Chest, NUT!"
Vanessa Howard in her schoolgirl uniform helps things along nicely too.
Found this on wiki...
Whatever Happened To Vanessa Howard (http://api.ning.com/files/z9pQTE38wNdFAastBthpiDu*plCxUi46Vv1zYe6i7eM=/vanessahowardcinxdsc001dq7.jpg)
Michael Bryant makes for most unlikely male 'escort' I'd ever imagined but he's really great in this. Great film.
-
She looks very cute too in SOME GIRLS DO, the follow-up to DEADLIER THAN THE MALE.
If you haven't seen these two then you simply must! They are essential viewing for fans of Eurotrash.
-

A fantastic little film and very very original, love that scene at the dinner table where Vanessa Howard gets 'New friend' to sing the Siamese national anthem :-\
-
Jonny, have you watched that GOODBY GEMINI yet?
-
I haven't actually, you've just reminded me that I need to. I was going to watch 'May Morning' when I get home tonight but I'll stick 'Goodbye Gemini' on instead now. :'(
-
Wondering if this great film will ever get a dvd release...
I've got the Dutch vhs btw.
-
The film was released on tape in the US by Prism but I don't recall if it was a Joseph Brenner theatrical release or a Cinerama one (Prism released titles from both catalogs).
-
It was Cinerama.
-
Just heard a reliable rumour that this one is coming soon to R1! :-\
There is a hunt for presskits, stills / lobbies....anyone got anything they want to see make the dvd?
All I have are scans from various auctions that I am sending, but I fear they won't be of much value.
-
I have a paperback tie-in and some press related materials.

Unfortunately I don't have any promo material...

Any news on the R1 dvd?
-
I am trying to get some more info and will share it if I can. Over the weekend I found a nice 30 second trailer for GIRLY, a US TV spot. Completely forgot I had it.
I just sent an email to see if it's needed and where to send a copy.

DVD cover art for the forthcoming Scorpion Releasing disc...

That's a nice cover! Is there a tentative release date for this yet?

No, nothing is mentioned at the DVDaf page.
-
Nice one!
I hope the wait won't be too long...
-
Jeff McKay over at DVD Maniacs ( who's has an inside track ) offers this tidbit...
"Since Scorpion is going through Ryko, you can rest assured that streetdates announced will show up on time. GIRLY is coming out on March 29th of 2010 and that's set in stone. "
-
Patience.... :D
-
I don't see that post anymore over there......so March may be speculative:(
but
over here
http://www.dvdaf.com/search.html?pub=Scorpion+Releasing&rgn=us&init_form=str0_pub_Scorpion+Releasing

Definitely!
Scorpion Releasing is putting out some nice DVDs with good transfers and producing some nice extras to go with each release.
-
Looks very nice, and it's gonna hurt waiting the month til this streets.
Shame Fredie F. isn't around to enjoy his favoroite film getting a quality DVD release ( but very nice they found an audio interview with him to include ).
I wonder if the TV spot is the one I mailed them?
-
Absolutely loved this film - superb fun ::)
God knows what Christopher Tookey would make of the Girly character. :-\

You people disgust me.
-
Sorry. It would look better if she were sat there with a colostomy bag between her legs. Better?
-
Of course it'd be more fun between her legs, but then we'd have a slightly different film between our limbs.
I prefer the UK cover. I wonder if it will have any unique extras or if like GOODBYE GEMINI, it'll be a copy of the R1?
Never cared for the US poster...the girl doesn't look like Vanessa Howard to me.
The head isn't supposed to be severed, as the kids bury one of their 'friends' up to his neck in the film.
The image makes it seem like he's looking up at her and begging her not to chop off his noggin, which never happens in the film.

Babybreese beat me to it but I had to ask... you've not seen this film have you Aarron? :-X
UK cover gets my vote too. I didn't buy the US release so will defo get the UK one.
-
Will be getting a copy of the UK disc for sure
-
What are the extra features on the Odeon disc?
-
What are the extra features on the Odeon disc?
There were no extras mentioned on the press release – I would guess that they’re the same as those on the US disc. That was certainly the case with GOODBYE GEMINI if memory serves me right.

No I haven't, I'd like to though :D

We'll definitely sort something out over the next week or 2.

The Odeon disc looks solid but it does seem to drop some of the extras from the Scorpion release: http://10kbullets.com/reviews/m/mumsy-nanny-sonny-and-girly-odeon-entertainment/ (http://10kbullets.com/reviews/m/mumsy-nanny-sonny-and-girly-odeon-entertainment/)

Cool, I never did get around to picking up the DVD

I feel a double dip coming on... :D

Love this film...and Vanessa, of course. Might have to double dip on this one!

The BD is up for pre-order now at Diabolik. Payment taken now and a ltd ed of 1200 from Scorpion. It should go up for order on Scorpion's site after Oct 1st but I have no idea if he'll be like Bill and do no International shipping at the moment.

Limited to 1000 actually it seems.
-
Just pre-ordered this from Diabolik, 73 left now of their quota apparently...
Came to about £22 all in.

They said their allocation is 300, I don't think they can put that high on the stock levels shown as they keep topping up a bit, it said there was twenty something left last night, either way all four titles seem to be going down rapidly.

Yeah, it's up and down like a yoyo which is why I got my order in. Didn't want to miss out on this one.

Me neither, I wanted Short Eyes and was too late.
-
I ordered it with Don't Answer The Phone. Didn't want to miss out either.
All this ltd ed stuff is getting a bit annoying though. Still waiting to buy a couple of the Code Red ones because I wasn't around when they were briefly up at Diabolik. It'd be okay if they were available to order all the time.
I'd expect Short Eyes to be back at Diabolik sometime. It's only available otherwise through Kino and I really can't see him selling 1000+ just through there.
-

Short Eyes is back in at Diabolik now actually.
-
My Blu-ray arrived this morning, hopefully give it a watch in the next few days
-
Watched mine last week with the wife. Was not at all what I expected, a very interesting film though, especially for its time. It freaked my wife out quite a bit. Not sure I'll ever watch it again though.
-
Mine arrived a couple if days ago. Might get a chance to watch tonight. It's back at Diabolik for anyone that missed it.
