One of our favourite movies, hands down! :-\
There's so much to like about Psychomania - the deeply cool music score, the nihilistic pre-punk attitude, the vaguely-knowing performances from the principles, the bloodless but disturbing violence. I could go on, but I won't.
It would be awfully nice if the upcoming Cinema Club release in the UK had something in the way of extras (not to mention an anamorphic transfer!), but it probably won't, so we'll settle for a print that is consistent in quality...

Not one of my favourites ,not all that good in fact in terms of all the my British horror collection, but still entertainly unique and a definite cult movie.
The guitar strumming hippy wake is hilarious and the Nicky Henson character exploding from out of the grave on a motorcycle is brilliant. :)

...and ripped off by Motorhead in their Killed By Death promo.

Anyone got one of these?

I have the long sleeved version, bought via the British Horror films website. Not bad quality, it's a heat transferred print, not screen printed and the sizes are a bit on the small side. I look a right twat in mine! Far too small! ???
-
That answers my question for me then. Think I'll give it a miss.

It's a shame as the design is a winner, just so annoying when you get it to find out it's basically an iron on transfer. Cost me £17 too! :)
-
I'm sure you could do a better job of it....

Oh for sure, I don't mind buying heat transfers but when they're so expensive it really gets my goat especially when I know how much it costs to make a good quality screen printed shirt.

I passed over this one back in the mid 80s when it was on a budget label here. This isn't the same film Dark Sky released last year entitled VIOLENT MIDNIGHT aka PSYCHOMANIA is it? If not I've not seen this one either.
-
Anyone see it on UK tv a few weeks back?It was nice to watch it again after not seeing it for a few years.
-
VIOLENT MIDNIGHT is a different film entirely, but is also worth a watch. Early sixties US film that sits halfway between the studio films of that era and the Lewis/Steckler type films.
-

I've got the Image DVD and really like the film a lot. It's a load of old Brit rubbish but very endearing and being a child that grew up in the 70's I love it for the nostalgia of seeing the surroundings I grew up in, especially love the Supermarket rampage! My Dad owned a chain of shops that looked just like that way back then!
-
I've got the lyrics to 'Riding Free' here, just give me a few minutes to copy them out of my review that I wrote in 'Hidden Detail' #2 the fanzine I put out about 13 years ago! Do you remember that one Kev? :D
-
Riding Free (The song from Psychomania)
And the world never knew his name, but the chosen few knew of his fate, come join his company... Riding free.
He really got it on.
He rode that sweet machine just like a bomb.
He felt her in his soul,
But no one there could find him,
Feeling that they could not understand,
He took his life with his own hand.
And the world never knew his name, but the chosen few knew of his fate, come join his company... Riding free.
They tried to tie him down,
To make him place his two feet on the ground,
How could they treat him so,
To ride was more than living,
They tried to clip his wings just like a fly,
So instead of standing still he chose to die.
Through mean and dusty bend,
He leans her ever inward like a friend,
He rides her to the ground,
His heels the black earth jetting,
A haze of blue smoke fretting,
A holy sound of revving fills the sky,
You can see the ghostly rider passing by.
And the world never knew his name, but the chosen few knew of his fate, come join his company... Riding free.
And the world never knew his name, but the chosen few knew of his fate, come join his company... Riding free, riding fee, riding freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

13 years ago I was pretty much out of the loop. Still went to a few of the fests and stuff but the 'almost raid' had taken the fun out of everything and I wasn't as immersed in the scene as I was in the late eighties/very early nineties.
-
Got to add my love of this film to the list, it cheers me up no end whenever I watch it. Sure it makes little or no sense but god damn it's a whole heap of fun! 5/5 for me ::)

Can you sing it for us Jonny then stick it on youtube! ::)

Anyone found out a release date for the R2 Cinema Club edition?
Kev W
-
Fuck I'd forgotten they bringing it out Kev. Just picked up a R1 in a slimline case bound to be a bootleg but I couldn't wait. I'll double dip if the CC release is any better though.
-
The original elements no longer exist, apparently.
As the Beeb now hold the UK rights to it, the Cinema Club copy will probably be struck from the master that they use for their TV broadcasts, which isn't too bad, but it certainly isn't up to the high standards that DVD demands. It's also full-screen, too. :-[

I have the complete soundtrack on disc somewhere. If anyone's interested, let me know and I'll upload it.

I'm interested sir! :P

The soundtrack was released by Trunk Records - not the best quality but worth every penny! Check it out:

The soundtrack was released by Trunk Records
I was once mistaken for Johnny Trunk by a lady who buys CDs for a London record shop. She ordered 15 copies of my 'Squadra Gialli' mix CD thinking I was Mr Trunk. It was only after I'd sent off the CDs and she had them on the shelves that Mr Trunk went into the shop and she commented on his new CD only for him to tell her it was a different Johnny! ::)
She still ordered 10 more though! :P
-
Jonny Trunk is great, seen him a few times on telly. He was on once talking about his comp album of flexi disc porno sounds from the 70's ::)
I had the Wickerman s/t lp when it first came out on Trunk but sold it in times of need, wish i'd held on to it now.

For anyone who has no idea what I'm on about... Fearlono is a very good friend of mine, we've known each other for over a 15 years and him and his missus are going to have a baby at Christmas time. It might be the next Jesus by all accounts.

I absolutely LOVE Psychomania, it is a truely unique piece of film history in that there is nothing else quite like it!
I'm definitely getting a copy of the re-release! :D
-
Seems it's no longer coming to blu? :-[

To be fair on Severin they did have the best intentions at heart but found the source materials to be only worthy of an SD transfer.
At least they admitted it and didn't put out a crap disc.
-
I know, the materials weren't good enough for a blu release.
Still going to buy the dvd though. :D

Hopefully it's a good review, my Image DVD sold this morning on Amazon for £21! I'd put it up there when Severin announced the DVD and forgot all about it!

Don't go telling some of the guys from Cult Movie Forums, you'll get lynched for being a capitalist on there for that.

I thought it was quite mild.

Blu-Ray coming from the BFI it looks like. Brilliant!
-
I've still not seen this. Will have to remedy that at some point.
-
Be interesting to see how good BFI's restoration is of this considering the original neg is lost. I'm sure they'll do as good a job as they can given their excellent track record ::)

It arrived today and I just watched it, found it really enjoyable.
-
Mine arrived over the weekend too, have yet to watch it though though.
-
Pretty sure there are some day/night errors in the restoration. Overall it's not bad and definitely good to have on blu ray even if at times it feels marginally better than what I've seen previously.
