The long-awaited release of a piece of British TV history as Nigel Kneale's (Quatermass) 1954 adaptation of George Orwell's classic Nineteen Eighty-Four, starring the great Peter Cushing, gets its DVD premiere.

Filmed mainly live in December 1954 only six years after Orwell's novel was published this legendary adaptation starred Cushing, alongside Donald Pleasance, Yvonne Mitchell and Wilfred Brambell. It was directed and produced by Rudolph Cartier and became one of the most controversial television programmes of all time, with questions asked in Parliament and many viewer complaints over it supposed subversive nature and horrific content. It is also one of the earliest surviving British television dramas.

Out in March, never seen this myself, only the Richard Burton one.
