This is listed on Amazon for a September 2015 release from Odeon on Blu-ray...

Product Description
Scanned at 4k by Pinewood Post Production and with newly commissioned Steel Book art by the renowned Graham Humphreys, this collector's version is limited to 4,000 individually numbered Steel Books. Dr Terror (Peter Cushing) is a mysterious fortune teller who boards a train and offers to tell fellow passengers (Christopher Lee, Roy Castle, Donald Sutherland) their fortune with tarot cards. Five possible futures unfold: an architect returns to his ancestral home to find a werewolf out for revenge; a huge flesh-eating vine takes over a house; a musician gets involved with voodoo; an art critic is pursued by a disembodied hand and a doctor discovers his new wife is a vampire. But they all end in the same result…..DEATH. A fascinating and fast paced example of portmanteau film-making with a deadly twist in the tale.

Brand new Limited numbered edition release of 4,000 with specially commissioned artwork by Graham Humphreys. Includes a brand new making of Dr Terror documentary by Nucleus Films and a recently filmed appreciation of the life and career of the late Sir Christopher Lee.

They put the artwork for the steelbook on their Facebook page and it looks great but I'd like the option of buying a standard version too. It's £15.99 + shipping direct btw.

Odeon titles have been really well priced in HMV and I'm interested to see how much this will be. If they want to shift 4000 I think they'll need the extra outlets. Getting a German release too.

That's one of his, more recent, better efforts.

He seemed to lose the plot a bit after the eighties.

His eighties stuff is iconic.

The new doc is nearly an hour long! This looks like it's going to be tops. No standard release until spring next year and looks like the doc might not be on that one. Steelbook it is then!

Odeon posted a clip to show the end credits have finally been restored from a non tape source, as well as some small extra footage being found.

It's in a comment from Alan Byron on their Facebook group

"The release is region free Blu-ray for release on 21/9 and there are some seconds of extra footage found by Pinewood to a previously damaged master. I can only this is at the end as we are due to screen the restoration this week now it is fully finished."

It's hard to decide which one to get looking a them screenshots, each has a load of images that looks better than the rival release depending on scenes.

Odd isn't it? I've gone for the Odeon version regardless

Definitely a bit of both from those caps. Odeon maybe slightly too high contrast.... maybe. Odeon too dark maybe..

Odeon more yellow in comparison but then Bernsrd Lee looks like he tried to cover some sunburn with a fake tan.

I'll see how the Odeon looks when it arrives. One of the biggest discrepancies is the title card. I've seen someone  swear it should be red. Fucked if I can remember from TV and all my recent viewings have been with the German titles.

The DVD seemed to have better colors :)  Of course the title card was in German on the DVD so no help there.  I grabbed some caps from the dvd to match ( roughly ) the Beaver caps ( the caps are sequenced Odeon / Olive / DVD ).

i don't know about that really.. the DVD looks very 'natural' but it's a 60's atmospheric horror film, not a documentary.

Also, where are the blue brigade? In those Olive caps we have blue wallpaper, blue curtains, blu pyjamas and Alan Freeman is wearing a blue shirt. Funny how everyone slated Dracula and others for being too blue but this is fine.

I'm not saying the Odeon is correct but everyone wants to be an armchair colour-timer when they've probably never even been near a first generation print and I dare say wouldn't honestly remember it if they had. Same with aspect ratios.

Love the point about the blue! Now you mention it I can't NOT see the blue!  ;D

Call me old fashioned but I'm going give the chaps at Pinewood the benefit of the doubt. I have the Odeon on pre-order and will be sticking with that, I'll not be buying the Olive release.

Watched it tonight and really glad I stuck with the Odeon. Really good disc overall and the restoration looks great. Only got a few mins into the doc but that looks like it's going to be well worth it.

Reports coming in that the Odeon disc is missing audio from the end of the Chris Lee segment. Be interesting to see if Odeon do anything to rectify this...

Glad I held off on this then. Hope Odeon sort this out asap  Sounds like the sort of problem 88 films get all the time !  ;D

It's not an 88 style problem, they miss out entire scenes. This an audio cue, as in a scream effect, missing from the soundtrack

Yeah they do miss out entire scenes. They have had several audio probs though on Bloodstained Shadow and another release which escapes me offhand. Usually Odeon do a bang up job. Guess these things happen though from time to time

Reported issues with the Odeon
( courtesy of a post by bgart @ latarnia )
- Lee's scream (when he's being put in the ambulance at the end of his segment) is very low in the sound mix for the Odeon release, whereas it's very loud and proper in the Olive release.
- The musical sting when the god appears in the voodoo segment is not present in the Odeon sound mix, but it is present in the Olive release.
- The ending of the film is quite different in the Odeon release. It jumps quickly and the music fades out and gets cut short in Odeon's, whereas it's extended and quite normal in Olive's release.

I've got the Odeon DVD of it from a few years ago. I wonder if those issues were present there? I've never noticed anything, but it's not a film I've watched ad infinitum over the years, so probably wouldn't have noticed it anyway

If anyone wants to exchange their previous BD for the new BD then please notify us at info@screenbound.co.uk and send their disc in, we will send a replacement and refund the postage.
