This long-unavailable classic war movie chronicles the last days of the Mussolini's Republic of Salò, as seen through the eyes of a young fascist soldier. This approach was source of great controversy and the film soon disappeared. For a few years Montaldo devoted himself to more genre oriented projects (Grand Slam, Machine Gun McCain), before gaining critical success with its 1970s political cinema classics (Sacco and Vanzetti, And Agnes Chose to Die).

Starring Jacques Charrier (The Eye of Evil), Eleonora Rossi Drago (Violent Summer, Camille 2000), Francisco Rabal (Belle de Jour, Sorcerer) and Gastone Moschin (The Conformist, Caliber 9). Music by Carlo Rustichelli (Blood and Black Lace, Kill Baby, Kill!).

Now available as an all-region BD feature, featuring a new 4K restoration from original negative, an exclusive interview with director Giuliano Montaldo (27 min.) and a photogallery. English and French subtitles. You can find it in stock at Amazon.it (https://amzn.to/3thijDO) (Europe) or DiabolikDVD (https://www.diabolikdvd.com/product/pigeon-shoot-tiro-al-piccione-shockproof-italy-blu-ray-all-region/) (USA).

I watched it this evening, really enjoyed it.

I reckon this would have been better art for the cover, what a great poster.

The interview with Montaldo on the extras is worth a watch too.

Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Thanks to this BD release, in Italy this film is finally receiving its deserved appreciation, both online and on film magazines. It only took 60 years  :P

Please keep us updated regarding any English-friendly Italian releases you find.  :P

There's a lot of great titles available on BD or DVD in Italy, but sadly, the presence of English subtitles is rare (for older films; for recent ones, it depends on the label, but even for those I see less and less titles with English subtitles being released).
It's weird, for quite a few I even see the presence of French subtitles, but not English subtitles.  :o

Cheers, Vizzini.

I'm actually glad seen it now and not years ago (even though wasn't available to do so), I probably wouldn't have appreciated it before. Like the first time I saw Salvatore Giuliano I thought was a boring but liked it years later.
