I just read an interview of Gérard Kikoïne in the French magazine "L'Ecran Fanstatique".
Kikoïne was the editor of
The Perverse Countess,
Lorna the Exorcist,
Dolls for Sale and
The Lustful Amazons. He his also the director of
Buried Alive and
Edge of Sanity.
Here's a rough translation of a very interesting part of the interview:
EF: "You began your career as an editor, working on many Jesus Franco films. What do you remember of these movies?"
Gérard Kikoïne: "(...) I always received the copies in strange circumstances. They were mute, shot without any soundtrack, the Italian way. For every film I was given a black and white working version, with only 2 pages of script, explaining the story. There was no dialog at all. I had absolutely nothing! We had to figure out the dialogs, it was sometimes totally absurd!"
EF: "Jesus Franco wasn't there during the editing?"Gérard Kikoïne: "No. And that is just unbelievable! Jesus Franco was staying in Spain. I was dealing with the French producer, Robert de Nesle. He gave me the copies (...) and 2 little pages, saying: "
Here Gérard, the story...". We had the name of the character, but we could change them. (...) We took the images and made something out of it... Concerning Franco, Even if I worked on many of his films, I never saw him. For the dubbing we had to invent everything."
