My favorite is NIGHTMARES COME AT NIGHT.

Great film in general, and one of Franco's best.

Great atmosphere. :'(

For a long time, my favorites were VENUS IN FURS, VIRGIN AMONG THE LIVING DEAD, and SUCCUBUS (along with the two EUGENIEs when they first hit DVD).  Those are still favorites but the previously lost NIGHTMARES COME AT NIGHT was a revelation with its almost non-existent budget, handful of actors, striking locations, patchwork score, and genuinely dreamy atmosphere.

My favorites would be VENUS IN FURS; THE AWFUL DR ORLOFF; DIABOLICAL DR. Z; THE SADISTIC BARON VON KLAUS; SUCCUBUS; EUGENIE and any film with Soledad Miranda, SHE KILLED IN ECSTACY; VAMPYROS LESBOS; NIGHTMARES COME AT NIGHT and EUGENIE DE SADE.

Anyone ever compared the DVDs in Jess Franco Collection Vol.2 vs. The Severin discs.  Any cuts on the British discs?

Thanks in advance!  ::)

All are uncut in the UK box set, although Anchor Bay stupidly forgot to include some of the supplied extras.

No, they really did forget they had them - half of the discs have them, half don't. When I called to tell them I was met with .. Oh, really? - nevermind"

Marc:

Are the ones they remembered to include the same extras as the Severin discs or different?

Thanks, again

I love Franco.  I'm a huge fan of all of the Soledad Miranda flicks, especially Eugenie de Sade.  I've got Bloody Moon and Devil Hunter on pre-order.  I really loved Cannibals w/Al Cliver and Sabrina Siani.  Of course, the man gives some of the most entertaining interviews ever.  There are very few filmmakers which I can say that I've only seen about fifty of his films. ;D

AL OTRO is another good one (avoid the French and Italian versions).  I have a DVDR of the Spanish version but its probably quite a few generations down from the tape release.  This one needs subs.

I just read an interview of Gérard Kikoïne in the French magazine "L'Ecran Fanstatique".

Kikoïne was the editor of The Perverse Countess, Lorna the Exorcist, Dolls for Sale and The Lustful Amazons. He his also the director of Buried Alive and Edge of Sanity.

Here's a rough translation of a very interesting part of the interview:

EF: "You began your career as an editor, working on many Jesus Franco films. What do you remember of these movies?"

Gérard Kikoïne: "(...) I always received the copies in strange circumstances. They were mute, shot without any soundtrack, the Italian way. For every film I was given a black and white working version, with only 2 pages of script, explaining the story. There was no dialog at all. I had absolutely nothing! We had to figure out the dialogs, it was sometimes totally absurd!"

EF: "Jesus Franco wasn't there during the editing?"

Gérard Kikoïne: "No. And that is just unbelievable! Jesus Franco was staying in Spain. I was dealing with the French producer, Robert de Nesle. He gave me the copies (...) and 2 little pages, saying: "Here Gérard, the story...". We had the name of the character, but we could change them. (...) We took the images and made something out of it... Concerning Franco, Even if I worked on many of his films, I never saw him. For the dubbing we had to invent everything."

While he's mad some fairly dire movies(Zombie Lake,Oasis of the Zombies etc) he's also made some fantastic ones

I thought Jean Rollin directed Zombie Lake? Or have i lost my marbles? I quite liked that.

Anyway, Jess introduced me to Lina Romay, which can't be a bad thing.  8)
