Watched this tonight courtesy of Jonny's great fan dub. Hadn't seen it in over 10 years. I knew it was good but had forgotten just how good. What a potent mix of politics, sex and violence. Seems as relevant today, in Italy's Berlusconi era, as it must have done when it was first released. After seeing A Quiet Place In The Country just the other week, I found a lot in common: the complex and abusive relationship; the systematic decline into madness; and the red paint! Elements – in particular Volonte revisiting the crime scene – reminded me in a strange way of Bad Lieutenant. Fantastic open ending.
