I think I might just have to get this afterall, gotta see the extras on disc 2 plus the book...
I got this in the post last week and it really is a beautiful release. The 80 page book " Le tracce di un mito" seems to concentrate on Volonte through '68 - '70 and sadly has only one picture in it ,at the front.
The 60 min doco is very well made, with a good spread of interviews with people he's worked with (Montaldo, Petri,etc) and friends. Interspersed throughout with production stills, film scenes and poster art i was really impressed with this. My italian must be improving, i could understand about a third of what was being said by the participants. Montaldo talks slowly and clearly which was cool.....maybe it was what i was smoking at the time but i got really into this!
The Volonte interview is from an italian tv talk show and would appear to be from some time shortly before his death, it's split into 4 seperate parts and is pretty dry. I have'nt sat through all of it as i was frankly lost almost immediately.
If you understand the lingo this is a must buy, if you don't but are a big fan of the film and have the money to burn i'd recommend it just for the doc alone.
I tracked down a copy of the oop R1 dvd of Sacco & Vanzetti this week, starring Volonte and Ricardo Cucciola which i'm gonna check out over the weekend. Any fans of this?
