I have posted Blu-ray specifications at dvdcompare.net forum and the moderator Anthony DiPaola replayed with:
"It seems this is the restored cut, but it seems the runtime you posted is 104 mins. The restored cut runs at about 109 minutes. So is this a PAL Master, edited, different version, runtime mistake, or what? Could you please check again?"

I check again and the runtime is definitely 01:44:42. The movie is even shorter because there is black screen with the music at the end. Anchor Bay/Blue Underground DVD runs 109:15 min. I am confused with this.

[EDIT] I suppose this is because of the picture format 1080i50 (25fps).

Yes I would think that is the reason for the runtime, but why the f**k was it released like that?

EDIT: I wonder does this mean it is worse than what it would be as 1080p or not? If this were a DVD, it would be worse (since on interlaced DVDs frames are made from two half frames which are from a different point in time?). I tried googling for this stuff and according to several sources there shouldn't (or at least most wouldn't see it) basically be any difference between 1080i and 1080p if the player or tv can do a good deinterlacing. But for that to work the half frames have to be from the same point in time. :-*

Somebody help! ;D

EDIT2: The master used was probably in 1080p25 (maybe for TV broadcasts which could be then shown easily in 1080i50?) and Blu-Rays won't support that. But the disc should look as good as what it would have as 1080p (but the audio pitch is different?). Unfortunately not all US players/TVs support 1080i50 and this includes (US) PS3. ???

Sorry for bumping this thread, but a quick question for those who bought the Italian Blu-Ray: did your copy arrive factory sealed?

I just received a copy of it from Amazon.it, and it wasn't sealed, and the condition of the disc wasn't all that famous.

Thanks.
Considering the condition of the disc, it's probably a previously returned copy.  :-[

Considering the disc is interlaced (1080i/50) and not 'full' HD it is very good indeed. A very worthwhile purchase.

9 year "bump" ;D, but it seems I'll be retiring my Italian BD soon.

Violent City is getting new US and UK BD releases soon, with multiple cuts included.

In the US, Kino Lorber is releasing Violent City on May 17 as a 2 BD set, with the following specs:

DISC ONE:
*NEW 2K RESTORATION of Violent City (In English & Italian with Optional English Subtitles)
*NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian Paul Talbot, the author of the BRONSON'S LOOSE! Books
*Shooting VIOLENT CITY: Interview with Co-Writer/Director Sergio Sollima
*Theatrical Trailers for VIOLENT CITY and THE FAMILY
*TV Spot for THE FAMILY

DISC TWO:
*NEW 4K Restoration of Città violenta (In Italian with Optional English Subtitles)
*Master of The Family – 2K Scan of a 35mm Print (In English with Optional English Subtitles)
*Charles Bronson Theatrical Trailers

---

In the UK, 88 Films is releasing it on May 16, also as a 2 BD set.
While the final specs are yet to be announced, the contents are probably going to be very similar to the US release, since when they first announced this release, they confirmed the following inclusions:

*3 Cuts of the Film: 4K transfer of Violent City, 2K tranfer of the Italian Cut, The Family Version
*Audio Commentary by Paul Talbot
*Trailer
