I figured for something of this stature (an achievement award for a great Italian film icon) would require more planning, etc, so 4 months away didn't seem like that far off in my mind.  But, I'll be eagerly awaiting the details...thanks!

True but Nero isn't the main attraction (believe it or not), it's an entire Italian Film festival. So I'm expecting Nero's award to be a slap dash project.

I already had that question planned of course. I don't expect anything new though. That movie has been in development hell for several years now.

As far as Franco, a few questions:

Of his movies which have not yet been released on American/UK dvd, which ones would he like to see be released?

What is his opinion on A QUIET PLACE IN THE COUNTRY?

Would he consider doing another thriller with Vanessa now?

And finally,

How does it feel to have Enzo beat him up in so many of their movies together?

Update:

It happened. The Hunchback was a real chum and allowed me to interview Franco Nero for my feature-length doc on Italian crime films.

(The Hunchback, who like me, kinda straddles the fence between film historian and filmmaker, was even the B-camera operator for the shoot.)

The interview was great, full of information and entertaining anecdotes. Best of all, I finally got to hear Mr. Nero's opinion of his greatest "imitator," Maurizio Merli.

I guess he was none too flattering of his rival? My wife and I interviewed Enzo (G!) Castellari a few years ago and he was less than kind to old Merli. He described him as someone who started out his film career with good intentions but then let the fame get to his head (...Or something like that.)

Enzo also mentioned the western he was meant to be doing, rattling off a long (long) list of celebrated American actors tied to the project. The good man QT was also mentioned as being key to the project, iirc. Given how long it's taken Quentin to remake 'The Inglorious Bastards' I guess we can't rule anything out just yet.

One day (when hell freezes over...) I'll rip and subtitle the 2 hour(+) interview we did. The problem is that (on playback) it all comes across as so (incredibly) amateurish that I'm not exactly keen to release it in it's present state. Bear in mind I'd also not seen many of his films at that point, the only one I could really talk about was Keoma - and I hadn't seen that since I was about 15 or 16 (I'm 31 now). I still have his son Andrea's e-mail address and I'd like to go back and finish it off. Here's hoping!
