On IMDB (Technical Specs) it is mentioned:
Chromoscope (2.35/1)

This must be an error.

The Spanish dvd is full frame (like RAI TV version) but is cut (some gore missing).

So, the German Blu is out and it looks shit. I'm pretty sure that it's an upscale or a very old HD master, though I'm willing to be bet it's the former. There's screenshots up at caps-a-holic for anyone interested. Avoid!

Isn't it not English friendly anyway?

I looked at those caps the other day and they look like arse. It looks like it's from an interlaced source for one and hasn't been properly converted with a load of combing in those screenshots. I've got a feeling that's why it looks like there's less detail than the Italian DVD. Could be a shitty old HD broadcast master that hasn't been dealt with right.

I think you are onto something here. The CMV label boss has repeatedly defended the release, stating that their bd is not an upscale. The main (and only?) selling point for their disc is the resurfacing of the German dub anyway. It was last heard when the movie played in theatres and apparently could not be located for the longest time, although several labels had tried their luck. If the video quality is this disappointing CMV should have gone the dvd route, though, and not raised everyone's hopes with a bd release.

Crazy thing is the DVD has better detail, the BD is actually worse than the DVD, not just a shoddy DVD.

How could an upscale look worse?
