The Uncanny (Denis Héroux, 1977)
« on: 07 Mar 2008 - 13:30 »

I love an anthology flick, especially those from Amicus and this effort—that came late in the cycle—is produced by one half of the team that was responsible for the studio's output, Milton Subotsky. The enveloping story sees Peter Cushing's writer trying to convince his publisher to represent his latest book; a tome devoted to proving the theory that cat's are the embodiment of evil...

There are three stories, all told and in keeping with the anthology film tradition, some are better than others. In my humble opinion, it is the first story that really shines, though the final segment is pretty good too. I'd never seen the film before the night before last and was always under the impression that this was quite weak film but was pleasantly surprised by just how much I enjoyed it.

I've had the Carlton disc for years but never watched it (surprise, surprise). Perhaps I'll try and give it a spin this weekend based on your thoughts.

I could be wrong, but I seem to recall this being Canadian as opposed to British.

It is a film that I have always enjoyed though.  Cats...

It's a co-production between Cinévidéo (Canada) and The Rank Organisation (UK) so it's fine being in this section of the forum.  :-X
