The great Joe Dallesandro's film career in Italy produced some classic crime movies so what's everyones favorite?
Mine is Vittorio Salerno's 'Fango bollente'(Savage 3) with Joe as Ovidio the disaffected computer worker who along with his 2 friends go on an orgy of murder and rape,it features a great cast including Salerno's brother Enrico Maria as well as Gianfranco De Grassi who also starred in Night Train Murders and Return of the .38 Gang, also look out for the prolific Claudio Nicastro who gets shot in the behind by Joe.

Nice idea for a thread, Stephen.  Dallesandro's crime flicks are screaming out for decent DVD releases.  I think my favourite is CLIMBER, as I remember it the film has some good action scenes, the lovely Stefania Casini, a great score and pretty good SCARFACE type plot.  The line he delivers when he murders the homosexual crime lord is classic.

SAVAGE THREE is a close second.  Love the scene when he shoots the doctor in the arse.  Then I guess it's  SEASON FOR ASSASSINS, same sort of mould as the SAVAGE THREE but nastier.  BORN WINNER is alright, Eleonora Giorgi gets naked a lot.  Same with MADNESS but Lorraine De Selle gets naked.

I could only vote for 'The Climber' as it's the only one I've seen! At least the only one I remember seeing.

It's a decent film as well, Dallesandro is always good to watch, he's a cocky git isn't he?

Yeah, in his Italian crime flicks he seems to specialise the cocky git role.

Watched THE LIMEY a while back and noticed he has a small part in it.

Anyone seen him in Safari Rally with Marcel Bozzuffi from 1978?I've been meaning to get a copy of this for sometime now, supposed to be an actioner set around a car racing rally in Kenya. There was a UK pre-cert tape issued on Cinehollywood  but like all the best titles on this label it's rare as hens teeth.

No, first time I've even heard of it.  Sounds like it could be good.

I haven't seen any of these, though I have MADNESS. In all honesty, I've only seen him in the Morrissey horror flicks and THE LIMEY, I believe.

I voted for SAVAGE THREE because of its originality, senseless violence and wild music score!

Joe is one of my favorite Italian crime leads. He has been accused of bad acting but I believe he was just perfect in the Italian films he starred in.

I also love MADNESS despite its ultra-low budget and slow pacing. Di Leo did fine, considering he didn't have much to work with. I wouldn't categorize it as crime though, it is a pure exploitation, rape & revenge film that I'd place next to similar Italian movies such as HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK, NIGHT TRAIN MURDERS, TERROR EXPRESS, LAST HOUSE ON THE BEACH, MIDNIGHT BLUE, etc.

I have a copy of SAFARI RALLY- not the best you have ever seen but it looks OK! Haven't watched the whole film yet but what I saw looked pretty trashy! There's a scene of Dallesandro's car falling down a huge cliff. Cut to a scene of him in a hospital, bruised and covered with bandages. In the next sequence he is in some swimming pool as if nothing had happened ;D I guess I will have to watch the whole movie soon!

Let us know what it's like after you watched it mate, for some reason i always think of Franco Nero's Sahara Cross whenever i read about Safari Rally-something to do with the desert i suppose ;D

Hey thats really interesting that Dallesandro starred in all those Euro crime thrillers.I'd always assumed that he couldn't act and wasn't in anything other than Warhol/Paul Morrisey movies.

Here's a cool photo of Dallesandro and director Fernando di Leo on the set of Madness(Vacanze per un massacro),taken from a 1999 Lorraine De Selle interview in Nocturno magazine.

I just checked out Dallesandro's sizeable portfolio on imdb and its quite impressive including a few TV series appearances.

On the BBC2 Rock N Roll Tales documentary(mid 1990's) about the making of Lou Reeds WALK ON THE WILD i don't recall too much being said about his acting career. However, there was plenty of footage shown from TRASH which looked exactly that! ;D
