I scrolled through this forum and i didn't see any threads about animated films, and/or films of the fantasy genre. Thought i'd do something about that, even though it may not be the fav' of this forum  ;D

Okay, Fantastic Planet. I saw some mentioning of it on some other forum, and immediately got hooked, which is what i usually get when i hear about any movie like this. So, when i spotted a special edition in a store on my recent trip to Mexico, i got real excited, and bought it immediately. I waited some time to see it though, since i had a stack of dvds to get through first. But, this night i pulled it together and popped it into the player. And boy, am i glad i invested those 20 $ in this film. First of all, the animation is gorgeous. I mean, just wow. It's not like the usual Disney animation, and it took about 10 min to get used to, but after that, my jaw was on the floor for the rest of the film.

The movie itself is very interesting. Set in a futuristic world, on some other planet, the story revolves around these enormous aliens, that's keeping humans as pets. It really raises some interesting questions and is a great, sly, critique of us human beings, our double-morale and our society.

I can highly, highly recommend this film. You won't be disappointed. Also, it's only about 70 minutes (which is a huge plus for me, since, in my opinion, modern movies are always 30 min. too long) so if you don't like, it's not that hard to overcome.

Big fan of this. Laloux's Les Maitres Du Temps and Gandahar are also highly recommended. All three are out in superb DVD editions from Eureka Video.
