Deadlock (Roland Klick,1970)
« on: 07 Apr 2008 - 21:13 »

Watched this film this evening and really enjoyed it, i can't explain why it's good it just is.

Very similar to a spaghetti western in style but set in some kind of modern times.

Mario Adorf lives in some kind of shanty town, the only inhabitants are himself, his crazy wife (i believe) and his daughter.

He finds a young man on death's door by the side of the road with a metal suitcase full of money, they end up back at Adorf's place but just behind them lurks a menacing character by the name of Mr.Sunshine.....

Adorf gives a great performance and the score is also good, performed by a German band called Can. I've never heard of them but the soundtrack went hand in hand with the film.

I thought it could have possibly been filmed in Spain but it was shot in the Negev desert in Israel.

if you haven't seen this i thoroughly recommend it ::)
BTW- in the trailer you see a quick glimpse of the girl getting shot (maybe) in the throat but the clip is brief, in the film she is blatantly shot in the torso.
It's a firm favourite of mine. Soundtrack, performances and atmosphere are great. Brilliantly downbeat as well. Elements remind me of Wages of Fear. I was impressed by the print quality on the German disc. You can hear some of the music cues on Can's Soundtracks album. Tanzi - I recommend listening to some of their strung-out krautrock masterpeices.

Glad you liked it Tanzi!  :P  :-X

Anthony Dawson is class as Mr Sunshine.  In the few films I've seen him in he always makes a great villain.

Liked it since I first watched the German vhs.
A real western feel (but it isn't a real western) and nice locations.
I personally prefer the German track above the English one.
It helps to understand German... :D
Any idea if this was censored since the trailer shows scenes not on the German dvd?
I haven't compared with my old vhs yet.

I think it's just the old case of the trailer having some alternate takes, but I could be wrong.

Yup, Deadlock is a very good film with good acting, appealing desolate desert setting and overall dense atmosphere...when I first heard that Anthony Dawson has a role in this, I really believed it would be Antonio Margheriti... ???

Three years to get it  ::)

This marks also the second entry of our international distribution.
Means, beside BLOODY FRIDAY, we'll also release DEADLOCK in Germany and the US.

So everyone should get a copy  :P
