Awaydays (Pat Holden, 2008)
« on: 22 Nov 2009 - 19:49 »

Set in Liverpool in 1979, Carty wants to get involved with a football film known as "The Pack"

I thought the film was quite good but not brilliant, it's worthy of a watch but don't go expecting a Football Factory.

Here are there i had trouble understanding what the scousers were saying ;D

Load of old chuff wasn't it? Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to have Frodo Baggins playing a football hooligan?

That was the point though, wasn't it? Stunt casting done in a bid to get people to see it. It would have been like Macaulay Culkin following the HOME ALONE series with HENRY PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER.

Best football hooligan flick is still Alan Clarke's THE FIRM. Nothing else have ever come close. I thought FOOTBALL FACTORY and CASS were both watchable but neither nowhere near as good as Clarke's masterpiece.

GREEN STREET is definitely the worst football violence flick, closely followed by the risible ID.

The biggest leap of faith asked of the audience is believing him off Home To Roost makes a believable undercover copper/bovver boy.

HOME TO ROOST with the legendary John Thaw, this was essential viewing for me on a Friday evening back in the late 80's when LWT took over for the weekend.

It popped up on Saturday mornings on ITV2 a couple of years back (might still be shown as far as I know). Made nice nostalgic viewing.
