Does it have English subs or dubbing, Prospero?
it has the English dub, along with the Italian and German dubs. I'll have to check for the subs.

Cheers, Prospero  :-X

no English subs for the Italian audio on the Koch disc. Strange, since Sollima's "Run Man, Run" just came out as part of the same series, and this one has English subs along with English audio.

I've not seen SILVER SADDLE but from what I gather it's more of a comedy western than a traditional spaghetti, so I wasn't expecting it to be on a par with FOUR OF THE APOCALYPSE and MASSACRE TIME anyway.  :-X

Nah it's not a comedy, though Geoffrey Lewis provides some comic relief. It's a pretty traditional revenge story, with impressive action scenes.. (Some gory bullet wounds as you'd expect from Fulci). And Gemma is perfect in the lead I think.

In fact I don't remember that much details, only some übercheesy happy hippo children silliness that turned me off...will give it another chance pretty soon!

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I was wondering if anyone picked up Koch's Blu-Ray release from Amazon.de and could confirm:
-is the film is uncut? (due to German laws several times Amazon sells cut releases, with uncut releases available elsewhere; it's confusing, and I never know how to tell if they are uncut or not before ordering something, so I end up missing on some releases with the "fear" of a cut release)
-is the BD any good? It's currently being sold quite cheap at Amazon.de, and since I was thinking about ordering something from there I was thinking about giving it a go.

It should be uncut and I haven't heard anyone claiming otherwise (which of course doesn't mean anything.. ). And I think most of the problems with cut releases come from the fact that Amazon wasn't allowed to sell FSK18 rated titles at some point and so they had FSK16 rated versions of them for sale (which were cut down to get the FSK16 rating). But now if you see a title rated FSK18 for sale, like Silver Saddle is, there should not be any stronger version on the market on some other store because then it would illegal I guess. :-*

I think they may still be selling only FSK16 rated discs of some movies that may available longer at some other store.

As for the quality of the Silver Saddle Blu-Ray, it is better than the DVD and I'd say definitely worth it if you don't already own it. The DVD by Koch Media is actually pretty good even on a HD display, so if you have the DVD and don't think the movie is much good, then upgrade might not be worth it.
The Blu-Ray actually has two versions of the film, not different in length but filtering... If you start the movie from the main play button, you will get an abomination (in my opinion of course) that have had the grain (and detail) removed and looking quite bad because of it. A more faithful transfer to the original source can be found from the extras menu.

Oh and unless my software had some problems when I took caps from the discs, the Blu-Ray has some contrast problems that have destroyed some of the detail completely. I am annoyed by that but still feel the upgrade to BR is worth it.

Like I said, I have taken caps from the discs and they are available here http://www.spaghettiwesterndvds.com/movies/silver-saddle-sella-dargento-silbersattel/screenshots/ along with the opinions I already mentioned here. :-*

Thanks for your help, Sundance.  ;)
I was actually at your website earlier (pretty cool site, by the way), and I saw the specs there, but I didn't see the screenshots you linked to.
It actually looks pretty good (the unfiltered version that is). I'm buying it. It looks to be worth the 12€ or so that Amazon.de is charging for it.

Glad to be able to help and thanks. :-X There is actually a link to the screenshots on the specs page, but obviously easy to miss. I should probably change the links on the pages so that visitors can actually see them. :-*

that's because amazon are only selling stuff that has been rated, i.e. received an OK by the German equivalent of the BBFC. Recently, they have begun to sell films that have an "18"-rating, but you have to make sure you're accepting the packet in person (with your ID ready) from the postman - if you live in Germany, that is. Don't know what they do with foreign orders.
The postage for 18-orders is also higher because of the complicated identification process.

it's all for the sake of our untainted youth....!

There is no such hassle with foreign orders and IIRC the normal postage prices apply. You will see the final price when you're checking out.

So that's why it tried to charge me more for postage, tried to charge me 7.60e (I think) to the U.K. instead of the usual 3 so I left it.

Shouldn't cost more for foreign orders should it.

This is strange. I just looked up orders from several months ago: Whenever I got an 18+ dvd they did not charge me any additional costs and I had no costly age verification to undergo.

in Germany, there are two diferent forms of 18-rating, I believe (one also indicates that the product may not be displayed openly in a store, etc).
Also, some DVDs have no rating at all, probably because the label wants to avoid the costs (having your products rated isn't free).
I never had any problems before when ordering from amazon.de until recently, when I wanted to order "Django - Ich will ihn tot" (Lo voglio morto ) by Bianchini, for which I was charged an extra EUR 5,-, and had to make sure I was able to receive the packet in person, with my ID-card ready.
Still, I assume this only applies to orders within Germany.
