No worries Jonny. But, why do you need to pay a customs charge on a gift? Have they changed the rules?

I've no idea, the charges were £17.43 import VAT and £8 clearance fee. Maybe they opened the box and saw a load of identical DVDs and figured they should charge me VAT on them?

Me too, I wouldn't mind so much if it was just the V.A.T. fee or whatever it is, it's a kick in the bollocks if you get hit for something that's not dear either, I complained once and was told they were providing a service, the service provided is for the government, not us. What would the government say if they were charged £8 to receive customs fees for an item not much above £15? Takes the fucking piss.

Yeah me too just got charged £13 off DHL the other day for a DVD ending up costing me close to £40.

Then it turns up under £15 via an Amazon seller. >:(

You can only claim a gift if its sent from an individual, and even then its only up to £40 value I think.

If its got company logo on then they will still charge import duty.

... after 15 years of importing films, i've only been charged once or twice - it's not just random, but there's loads of techniques it should be easy to pick up to avoid or bypass these charges. the biggest hit is VAT, duty percentages being single figures, and applying it to the items and estimated shipping cost makes it feel hugely unfair - but not quite as much as that processing fee. it would have been worth looking into how these discs were going to be processed before sending them, i guess - if i remember right, courier companies are also required to calculate and collect import duty have different charges and they might have worked out cheaper to send like that.

That's great news, Jonny. Sucks you had to pay a customs charge though.

I really did enjoy this documentary. Fantastic to see everyone reminiscing about some of my favourite ever films. As I said elsewhere, the soundtracks might have got a mention, but in reality that is probably a documentary in itself!
Didn't recognise Joe Dallesandro at all.
