Let's see...

Blazing Magnum
Emergency Squad
High Crime
Live Like a Cop, Die Like a Man
Manhunt
Milan Caliber 9
Rome Armed to the Teeth
The Last Round
Violent City
Violent Naples

To name a few. Pretty much anything with Milian and/or Merli is a favorite of mine though.

Yeah, you can't really go wrong with those two can you? I even like the later Giraldi films where Milian seemed to be at his most eccentric. He's a character that Tomas Milian...

No question about it. I could watch an entire film where Milian does nothing but chew on cigars, roll his eyes and adjust his flat cap. It's just captivating to watch for some reason.

Do you guys prefer Milian as a hero or a villain? I like him best as a villain, myself. (But then again, I haven't seen his later Giraldi films -- but thanks to the evangelization of Jonny, I'm going to soon!)

And of those who like his hero roles better, what do you think about his occasional "straight" performances, the ones where he doesn't ham it up (YOUNG VIOLENT DESPERATE, EMERGENCY SQUAD, BANDITS IN MILAN)?

I actually don't have a preference at all. He's great doing either as far as I'm concerned, though I must admit that when watching his comedic roles I'm often just marveling at how incredibly eccentric and, frankly, nutso the guy is.

You should check this thread out for some prime examples!  ::)

I think you'll dig those Giraldi's I sent you Mike!

I love Milian as the villain.  I even root for him as the villain.  Even as Julio Sachi I'm hoping he'll pull it off though once he starts his raping and child killing not so much then.  Don't know if it's my love for Milian or that I was dropped on my head as a kid.  :-*

Watched a very young Milian the other day in LA BANDA CASAROLI from 1961 where he plays an inexperienced bank robber who resorts to drastic measures when the pressure gets too much, interesting film which also stars an even younger Gabriele Tinti as a cop.

My favorite movie is Quelli che contano with Henry"Motherfucker" Silva.

Directly hunted by Deodatos "Uomini si nasce, poliziotti si muore"

True sleazy all time classics of the italian crime cinema. Rough, straight and political totally incorrect.

In fact I know most of the films with the german dub and trust me, the germans are definitely the most perfect experts for doing dubs. What they did to the italian movies are unbelievable because they create translations which makes some movies more intense as in the original recording. For example the Spencer/Hill films are more successful in germany than worldwide. Sadly the germans are true master in censorship. A lot of movies are cut or even banned over there

This is really hard for me but I'd pick:

-Violent Naples (THE BEST!)
-Convoy Busters
-Cry of a prostitute
-Milan Calibre 9
-Rome armed to the teeth
-Almost human
-Bloody Friday & -Battle of the godfathers(Italian/German co-productions, do they count?)

And two very special flicks:
-Provincia violenta (directed by Mario Bianchi with Richard Harrison as godfather, Al Cliver as ruthless killer and Lino Caruana as tough cop...ultra cheap & sleazy, atrocious dubbing but I love it :-\)
-Don't trust the mafia (Another dirty Bianchi sleaze-gem)

I've seen Naples 5 and although I did not understand a single dialogue, the omnipresent smutty atmosphere was fascinating...there is even peeing over somebody's head plus it has Richard Harrison and that Bianchi-poliziotteschi regular with the big beard (don't know his name), so it is a big win in my book... :-\
And "La Banda Vallanzasca" sounds promising to me, I have to see it! Is there a version with english dubbing or subs?
