I've been aware of this one but never seen it. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen it discussed in any forums either so this review is very welcome. Good job!  :D

The Japanese fullscreen tape and the windowboxed Spanish disc have vastly different color timing throughout but the Spanish disc reveals more picture info (through the grime of VSOM's tape, you can see that the subtitled version - which uses the fullscreen Italian titles from the Japanese tape and the letterboxed Spanish broadcast for the rest - has similar timing to its not a new development).

I have the Japanese video release of this and I was wondering if there ever was an English language title. On IMdB the international title is listed as Black Sunday but I suspect it's one of IMdB's usual fuckups but I guess it's possible. Anybody?

I'm pretty sure the remake was not known as BLACK SUNDAY.  The Italian and Spanish titles translate as MASK OF SATAN (or MASK OF THE DEVIL) and I think the BLACK SUNDAY title on the original was AIP's idea.  The Japanese title DEMONS V: THE DEVIL'S VEIL is not the onscreen title.  It appears before the title sequence on tape and on the box art as was the case with DEMONS IV: THE SECT and DEMONS III: THE CHURCH.

I've got a DVDR of the VSOM print and am transcribing the subs now.

Thanks, you're probably right about "BLACK SUNDAY". It was never used for the Lamberto film. On one site (I forget which one) someone actually used MASK OF SATAN as an aka for the Lamberto film. All this mis-info is enough to give you a fucken headache, LOL.
About the translation of the title: MASK OF SATAN/DEVIL weren't direct translations as "demonio" means demon, not Satan or devil. Devil is diàvolo/diablo (yeah, nitpicking, lol).

You're transcribing the VSoM subs for (I assume) a proper version; Very cool!

I was reading about this one in an old ETC just yesterday.  I'd love to see it!

Until I saw this I had no idea it was available on legit DVD. I've just received this from Spain, pleasently surprised how good it is. For a TV movie it's well made (it looks better than some of Bava Jr's theatrical efforts). I've generally avoided Italian made for TV movies due to their reputation, but I may have to start watching some more. Can anyone recommend some good ones?

Not a bad movie! Stylish and with a great atmosphere. I love the settings, both the exteriors (the villages is perfect) and the interiors - which I guess is both a real location and a built set.

Now this is one I haven't seen, and I'm an unashamed fan of Bava Jr's work. I still reckon that Demons was one of the better horrors to appear in the mid-to-late 80's.

Demons is great fun. My favourite Bava Jr film is Blastfighter though.
