Question about Merenda's polizieschi
« on: 09 Jul 2008 - 14:18 »

While logging anecdotes from the Luc Merenda interview for my documentary ( http://www.lovelockandload.net/forum/index.php?topic=1936.0 ), I noted that he mentioned his three most dangerous stunts as being:

1) Stepping from one moving bus to another (I couldn't tell if he meant he was on the top of the bus or not).

2) Brawling while handcuffed (this was only dangerous because he fell while handcuffed),

and

3) A car jump where the car had to land on something (on the water, I think -- a barge maybe?). From the way Merenda tells the story, it makes it seem as if both he and stunt coordinator Remy Julienne were in the car together for the actual jump.

None of those scenes immediately rang familiar so I popped in all the Merenda Eurocrime films I have on hand. I scanned through:

THE VIOLENT PROFESSIONALS
DEADLY CHASE
THE LAST ROUND
GAMBLING CITY
MAN CALLED MAGNUM
KIDNAP SYNDICATE

...and didn't find the moments in question (but admittedly, I watched on 2x or 4x speed). Of course, Merenda made about eight or so more Eurocrimers that I haven't seen, and they could be from those.

Anybody remember these moments, and if so, what film they're from? (It's always possible that he got off topic, and these stunts came from movies outside the crime genre....)

IIRC Merenda fights Franco Citti in THE DIRTY GANG while cuffed.  I think THE DIRTY GANG has some bus action in it too but I aint sure and I aint got the the DVD to hand at the moment.  Sorry!

No worries Mike.  Sorry I can't be certain about it but someone should come along to confirm it or correct me.  Looking forward to your documentary.  :-X

Thanks, Jonny. I've got two of the three Monnezza films, and DIRTY GANG happens to be the one I'm missing.  ???

This scene is in Fernando Di Leo's SHOOT FIRST DIE LATER(Il poliziotto è marcio) and it's Merenda as a passenger in a high speed pursuit around the Naviglio Grande (Grand Canal) in Milan, the scene of the car landing on the barge is of a passing motorist who gets in the way.

You guys are good; you identified all three scenes in about an hour's time. I knew asking on this board would save some time.

The Q&A with Merenda is the only one so far that I didn't write the questions for. I found out that he was available for an intvw just a couple of days before I had to leave for Miami to shoot Franco Nero. So I just told the France-based interviewer/camera op/DP (who also shot interviews with Mario Caiano and others for me), to just use all my generic questions about stunts, shooting without live sound, terrorism in '70s Italy, etc etc etc.

For posterity, Merenda getting cuffed prior to being thrown around quite a bit in DIRTY GANG...
