Rented the disc.  The credits say "Filmed in Technovision" which is sometimes flat (ZEDER, STENDHAL SYNDROME) and sometimes anamorphic (TRAUMA).

Watched this tonight and really enjoyed it.  ::)

Especially
Kirk's nude nuclear nightmare!
:-*

The scenes in the mental institution were also surreal & unnerving at times.

The ending on the LionsGate disc is definitely different from what I remember on the HOLOCAUST 2000 tape and TV prints in the US.

Just looking at the Dutch VHS version and noticed that the end credits go to scope ratio...

How are they framed on the Lionsgate disc?

I've already sent it back but they look skinny (squeezed).

I wasn't impressed by the film seeing it again on disc but I liked this ending over the one on the AIP prints.

I kind of liked BELPHEGOR but that is an awful English trailer featured on the RAIN OF FIRE DVD.

OK. I took the grab from the Dutch tape and the grab from the Lionsgate DVD and scaled them so they were the same size...

Too bad.  Not a great film but it had some striking images that were ruined by the cropping such as the power plant rising from the water and changing into the statue of the seven-headed serpent having its edges cut off by the edges of the cropped frame.  Even in the art direction you can see that it was intended to be a scope film (take a look at the rectangular shape of that painting of the power plant.  Other scenes don't look ruinously cropped, they just don't seem that well framed in the 1.78:1 version.

Here's the more familiar ending as seen in the US prints:

I was thinking I had seen this one in the mid 80s on Cinemax or some such, but got into it last nite and realized I`d never seen it at all. I kept expecting to see an evil little blond tyke, finally dawned on me I was mistaking this for THE GODSEND! That`s the OMEN rip-off I saw back then. Really enjoyed this, some inventive and gory deaths and a nicely constructed story - love the little clues and signs of the anti-christ - Massimo Foschi looks so menacing in the film, a drastic change from the same year`s JUNGLE HOLOCAUST. Even though this film swings wildly from goofy to grim (the hospital nursery scene near the end), it`s always absolutely entertaining.

I`d really like to see THE GODSEND again now...

Looks like some slight sawtoothing in that screenshot. This, coupled with the fact that it's cropped and doesn't feature any of the additional scenes makes this release look like something of a missed opportunity. With that said, I'll still be getting this one as I happen to like this film a great deal.

I'm glad the original ending is retained at least. This ending was also on the UK tape titled HOLOCAUST 2000, I believe. That hastily put togther mess of an ending seen in the youtube clip seems to have been made solely for the US. It provides more closure, I guess, but it's looks so sloppy and careless. Would have made for a nice extra on the DVD, though.

Look at Kirk Douglas' fringe in that grab and you'll see the effect.
