Psychoville (2009)
« on: 19 Jun 2009 - 07:55 »

Did anyone else catch this on BBC2 last night? It's a new sitcom written by and starring Reese Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton of The League Of Gentlemen. First episode was great and very much in the style of their previous show and is beautifully shot too.

A selection of disparate characters—including a miserable, hook-handed clown, a maternity nurse, a telekinetic dwarf and an incestuous mother and son that have an unhealthy obsession with serial killers—all live in different parts of the country but receive the same handwritten note from an anonymous writer that says "I know what you did".

At only 30 minutes long, it did really well to establish quite a large set of characters and it's really quite funny. Definitely worth checking out on i-player or an inevitable repeat.

It's been great so far! Some really cringe worthy bits... very reminiscent of League Of Gentlemen.

Anyone noticed how the blackmailer is dressed in full Giallo garb?

I just can't get past my hatred for Dawn French so I've not seen any episodes so far...

I'm not a fan of her but she's actually quite good in it.

I won't be able to stop thinking about her gorging on Terry's Chocolate Oranges or being annoying as hell in THE VICAR OF DIBLEY...

Loving this show at the minute. Last weeks episode was a brilliant homage to Hitchcocks Rope and had a nice guest appearence from Mark Gatiss. After the hugely dissapointing League Of Gentlemen film it seems they've got their mojo back. Excellent series so far.

Watched the first series over the last couple of days. Really enjoyed it, just as twisted as The League Of Gentlemen.

Will have to watch the second series at some point.

I've yet to watch the second series, but the first was excellent — really enjoyed it…especially the e-bay bidding in the first episode! :-\

I've never gotten round to seeing series two or the Halloween Special, either. I really loved the first series. Top stuff.

I preferred the 1st series, but series 2 & the Halloween special were still very good. Silent Singer was really creepy  :-\
