Surprised that there's no thread for this one already?  Perhaps it isn't gritty enough (it does seem to have been somewhat toned down with a stateside major release in mind) what with it being a French/Italian co-production with top tier technicians (though not necessarily better than the ones working in lower budget films at the time) like DP Aldo Tonti and Leone-regulars Nino Baragli (editor) and Ennio Morricone (whose over-emphatic score is not one of his better works) but it has some great stunts (the opening car chase, for instance) and - despite Jill Ireland - some good performances.

Or perhaps it has not been talked of much here since it's been widely available on DVD since 2001, has been reissued, apparently the UK disc is also a port of the Anchor Bay version, and the cut German DVD has an English track as well.

I've got the OOP Anchor Bay disc of this (the Blue Underground DVD is a straight port of the Anchor Bay).  It has been mentioned on the Mobius board that although the Anchor Bay/BU releases do restore footage not present in the English version in Italian with English subtitles, some of the restored scenes were indeed in the US version with English dubbing (as with the restored Anchor Bay releases of CUT AND RUN and FOUR OF THE APOCALYPSE).  Before the Anchor Bay disc, I was familiar with the film as THE FAMILY.  I had seen it on TV and got a copy of MPI's Gorgon Video-looking clamshell release which turned out to be a TV print which was further cut down from the US theatrical version (which I do not believe has turned up on tape stateside).  The English titles are arranged and sized differently between the US and export versions although the content and opticals are the same (I've also got the impression that the end titles were redone for the disc release but I haven't compared it with the tape).

Amazon.it are now shipping the Blu-Ray release and have dropped the price to €11.99. With shipping it comes to around £18 which is not bad at all for an Italian import.

That postage takes the fucking piss, same with amazon.com but when we sell things to foreign countries on amazon.co.uk you barely get back what the postage costs.

My mistake, it was €7.20 for shipping so works out at around £18. Shipping from Italy is always expensive but the best thing about Amazon.it is that their shipping is super fast. The disc should arrive by Saturday.

I ordered SERPICO on Blu-Ray from
Amazon.fr on Tuesday and it arrived this morning.

Excellent service from Amazon.it, the disc arrived this morning. The cover art is different to the one advertised and is a bit of a dodgy Photoshop job. The disc is housed in the same case that Criterion use for their Blu-Ray releases. Will give it a spin this afternoon.

Totally dissagree, I like it a lot! I think it is one of his better works. It creates a very special athmosphere.

Just given it a quick look. The film looks great in HD, very colourful in the outdoor sequences. For a film over 40 years old I doubt it could get any better.

This is the complete version of the film and English subtitles are provided for the Italian audio only scenes. The English audio track sounds fine.

I'll have to order this when I get enough spare cash to do a larger order. Only have it on a Hollywood DVD 4-pack at the moment but at least that seems to be the full version.

Thanks for the report! I hope that you don't mind that I quoted your word with full reference on Blu-ray.com and criterionforum.org forums.

Mr. Bungle, an alter-ego project of Mike Patton, lead singer of the American band Faith No More, did a cover of the theme in the early 90s

As for the movie, I loved the conclusion...

May you please edit and correct the name of the director on the title of the topic?
Sergio Sollima is correct, not Solimma.
