Harry Brown (Daniel Barber, 2009)
« on: 08 Sep 2009 - 11:32 »

Sir Michael Caine's latest offering sees him returning to Britain for lead duties in this film about a retired special forces officer who decides to take the law into his own, elderly hands when one of his mates is killed by some chavs on a London housing estate (that's the "projects" to you fellas reading in the US).

Yeah, there's an air of last year's GRAN TORINO about it, but Caine's a great lead, especially when he's dishing out violent retribution a la GET CARTER, so I'm quite exited about this.

It's out in UK cinemas this November and was rated '18' by the BBFC yesterday. The Board's consumer advice makes me want to see the flick even more: Contains very strong language, strong violence, hard drug use and sex  :P

Any film that Baz Bamigboye describes as 'Brilliant' is fine by me.  ::)

True, very true. It's the definitive sign of quality for movies second only to James King of Radio 1..

What Paul Ross thinks is going to be the deciding factor for me as to seeing it on DVD or at the cinema.

I went to see this last night: It's a good flick. Nicely shot, very well acted and on the whole, excellent. There are a few aspects of the plot that are a little weak, but it's a great film. Don't expect wall-to-wall action: it's as much social realism as it is a vigilante picture...

I really liked this one, Caine does a great job as a pissed off old-timer.  :P
