Calibro 35 plays events in America (Oct. '09)
« on: 29 Sep 2009 - 14:00 »

For Americans of either coast, October offers several chances to catch the great Milanese poliziotteschi-inspired funk-rock band, Calibro 35:

Here's the event at USC on the 14th, for anyone who happens to be in the L.A. area:

(I'm going to have the honor of introducing STREET LAW and running the EUROCRIME! trailer before the film.)

Cool stuff, let us know how it all goes down Mike.

Cool stuff, let us know how it all goes down Mike.

Everything went well; Calibro 35 rocked ("funked?") amazingly hard during their performance at the Henry Fonda Theater in Hollywood, blowing away all the other bands on the bill that night. (I think that's why they were followed by a solo pianist, so no immediately following act would have to try to better them.)

My only disappointment came when two USC students exited the STREET LAW screening, and one said to the other, "It's one of those so-bad-it's-good movies!"

Rotten so-and-sos...

Isn't USC supposed to have the highest entry standards for U.S. film schools?

You'll always get someone like this Mike.

Good to hear the band were on form. Did anyone film any of the show?

From what I've seen of them they seem to be a really tight band when they are playing. Would love to see them live.

The drum setup of the drummer is weird, never seen that before. I can't make out what he's using!

He's using a snare with brushes and hitting what looks like sleigh bells instead of a ride cymbal.

Wow; I honestly thought Fabio was just hitting whatever junk happened to be laying on those shelves. Is he just room mic'ed?

That's what it looks like to me, seems like he's got the bells lying down on top of that set of shelves...

I'd say he's room mic'd.

I dig the guitarists cigarette pack amplifier too!  :'(

A misty night at USC, with the giant American in the middle...
