Interesting, though if the conspiracy theories are to be believed about him being offed as a way of silencing him before he concluded the second part of an expose of Italy's government, we'll probably never find out the truth anyway.

Being Italy they'll probably come to the conclusion that he killed himself.

Actually, that's what this entire book is about-- it's really interesting too, to the point where i'm inclined to believe it (as I am prone to enjoying artists that consider their own death an extension of their art work).  it suggests that within his poetry encodes & directly alludes to the specific date he will die.  The book is certainly worth reading for entertainment, even if you don't believe everything inside.

Every time I try to make a link like that I mess it up so I just do regular links now.

I went into "quote" and just pasted the normal part of the link in the browser :D

The link in his orignal post does work, mate - or at least it does for me. The link in your reply with the quote from his original post doesn't though.

It does work now.

It didn't at first and then didn't when it was changed.

I just took another look, when I went into the message this moring it said http twice, it now says it once.

There isn't a statement saying it has been modified now so I gather in between me and you posting Jonny or Stephen has been in there and corrected it  :D

Being Italy they'll probably come to the conclusion that he killed himself.

If one considers cruising hustlers late at night in a bad part of town where violence or robbery may happen to your person to be risky, or self-destructive, behavior, then one might conclude he had a death wish or was suicidal.

I tend to think he was murdered after seeing the documentary Whoever Says the Truth Shall Die.

Here are some reviews of the documentary (DVD).

http://www.dvdtalk.com/dvdsavant/s2140die.html
http://www.tcm.com/movienews/index/?cid=148195&rss=mrqe
http://homepages.sover.net/~ozus/whoeversaysthetruth.htm

The documentary is included in the BFI release (Blu-ray or regular DVD edition) of Salo, or The 120 Days of Sodom as an extra on the second disc of the set (the second disc is in SD for either set).

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Salo-120-Days-Sodom-Blu-ray/dp/B001BOA2M0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1272395405&sr=1-2
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Salo-120-Days-Sodom-DVD/dp/B001BOA2MA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1272395405&sr=1-1

It's also available from Facets by itself, or from sellers at amazon.co.uk , but either way is more expensive than the Blu--ray or SD BFI Salo release.

http://www.facetsdvd.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=DV71518

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Whoever-Says-Truth-Shall-Die/dp/B000HEWENU/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1272395114&sr=1-18

I haven't watched the documentary on my Blu-ray disc yet, so I don't know if they are included on the second disc, but apparently there are extras on the Facets disc that lead one to conclude Pasolini was murdered, as Glenn Erickson AKA DVD Savant notes at the end of his review (see dvdsavant link above):

"The disc extras offer a degree of closure for the mysterious murder. Two audio interviews with director Bregstein and Bernardo Bertolucci discuss the May 2005 recantation of Pasolini's official murderer. The ex-convict now states that three men followed the pair to Ostia and murdered the director while shouting anti-homosexual and anti-Communist taunts, and threatened his family with death if he did not cooperate. Although this new evidence would seem to prove otherwise, the latest court ruling still refuses to conclude that Pasolini's murder was politically motivated."
