Wasn’t too sure where to post this thread – the film is horror in essence but plays out like a drama. I figure that it’s probably best suited to the arthouse section.

I’d not seen any of Philip Ridley’s directorial efforts before seeing this yesterday. I was so impressed with REFLECTING SKIN that I’m going to check out his other films as soon as I can. This really is a great film. In a nutshell it’s set in the US during the 50s (it is a British film though) and focuses on a young lad who suspects his neighbour of being a vampire. It’s kind of an arty FRIGHT NIGHT if you like. Haha. Well worth checking out.

I have the German Blu-ray – it’s in English with removable German subs (or German audio) and looks pretty good for a film as obscure as this.

I wouldn't have thought it was a title Lions Gate actually owned and would imagine the rights are fairly complicated being that it was co-financed by the now defunct British Screen. Marc would know for sure. I think he was interested in tracking down rights for THE REFLECTING SKIN and THE PASSION OF DARKLY NOON a couple of years ago.

I have no idea, mate. Would be good if an American (or UK) company could put this out with a decent featurette and commentary.

LionsGate also controls the Virgin Vision catalog which was once owned by Columbia Tri-Star in the UK (for instance, first Columbia released Ken Russell's THE RAINBOW on DVD and this was then reissued by LionsGate who also have US rights through Vestron).

Do any of the European DVDs have an Artisan Entertainment logo?

Also, is there an equivalent German SD release to the BluRay with the English track?  the only German DVD I know of is non-anamorphic with German audio only.  The 2009 DVD reissue lists only German audio at Amazon but is that an error?  The listing for the BluRay correctly mentions both German and English audio.

RCA/Columbia used to do the sales and marketing on behalf of Virgin Vision c.1991, the company did the same for Medusa Communications too.

The only instance of an Artisan logo appearing on a UK release is usually if the film was produced by and licenced from the comany a la Blair Witch or whatever. Lionsgate UK definitely holds the rights for what was once the Vestron catalogue.

Been so long since I saw this ( HBO back in the early 90's ), love to check it out again sometime.
DARKLY NOON was a bit of a surprise as well, and has my fave Breden Frasioer perf ( mind you, that's not saying much ).
