Enjoyed this one. Leisurely paced and without as many special effects as one would expect from a film featuring a man who has a retractable sword in his arm. Obviously the lack of shitloads of effects is due to budget restraints but I really do think this works in the films favour and makes what could have been an overblown Wolverine rip-off into a very nicely played film.

Lead actress Chulpan Khamatova is well fit.

i picked a dvd of this up a few years ago on the voxvideo label and another about 6months ago on euro cult. i upgrade to to certain ambiguities in the story, i wondered if the new version would have re done subtitles. it doesn't it, looks like exactly the same version, subs included just missing some adds.

the film itself i like so much due to its blend of genres, its really hard to pigeon hole, thriller, drama, romance. fantasy, a great story and acting, well shot and with minimal effects (this is not bloody film) . i'd certainly recommend this.
