Short of the highly unlikely event of someone throwing a load of money at it and restoring from the negative, if it's even available, I can't see it looking much better.

It is indeed a money matter.  MGM have elements for the film, but they struck their version back in 2000, which was before they mastered 1.66:1 films in 16:9 so their widescreen master is 4:3.  I assumed that the Scorpion disc was a 16:9 crop of the ITV open-matte master, but it could just as easily be a 16:9 1.78:1 crop of the MGM 4:3 master (although it lacks the MGM logo which appeared before the transfer of THE DEVIL WITHIN HER, which is so far the best-looking of the Rank titles Scorpion licensed).
