It doesn't matter to me either way. After I saw it, I learned what the original name was (1000 CRIES HAS THE NIGHT) and I thought it sounded very giallo-ish. The same argument could be said of STAGEFRIGHT.

My favorite review of PIECES was on some website where the reviewer was giving a rundown of all the films included on some Brentwood horror 10-pack. It went something like:

"PIECES -- This film gave me a headache."

Interesting that Grindhouse Releasing is making this their next release. Now if they would just get around to the Maurizio Merli classic THE TOUGH ONES! I want to own every possible DVD edition of that Eurocrime masterpiece!

Back to PIECES: What's the notoriously awful line in there? Something like "Must've just been some bad chop suey." Awful!

I was actually fortunate (?) enough to catch this in the theater back in the mid-80s. It still sorta blows my mind that PIECES played in my little burg. That ending is a true WTF?! Can`t wait for the Grindhouse disc -  but I`ll believe it when it`s in my hands.

An amazing film in the BLOOD FEAST vein.

For me, the one scene that always did it was when the girl got into the lift with the big fella and just didnt happen to notice he had a big old chainsaw "hidden" behind his back!

As to whether you could define this film as a giallo? No chance. Its sheer 80s exploitation, low budget horror sleaze/trash. It exploits females as all good trashy exploitation films do.

The UK video release was severely cut when it first came out (its still not available uncut in the UK) and I remember the first time I saw an uncut NTSC tape. Can't wait for this new disc. Should be a whole lotta fun.

I copied this from a poster from fango's boards. I remember the commercial for this back in 1983 and it unbelievably played in the small town we had not long before moved to. At that time, I still hadn't seen the original TCM yet but this film sparked the interest in it, and upon seeing PIECES on video the following year, finally seeing TCM wasn't far behind much to my mother's chagrin...

There`s a great career-spanning interview with Paul Smith on the Grindhouse dvd, really enjoyed that. He`s a gifted story teller, tells some hilarious behind-the-scenes tidbits. There`s an easter egg with him too.
