This film really deserves a re-release, based on the John Ford tragedy (the lesser known playwright alongside John Webster +
Marlowe). The plot concerns an incestuos relationship between a brother(Oliver Tobias) and his sister(Charlotte Rampling)
which results in her pregnancy , on the advice of the church she marries her rich suitor(Fabio Testi). Soon after the wedding
night Testi discovers the truth, and the the film advances to its tragic and bloody conclusion...
Stylishly directed by Giuseppe Patroni Griffi (who i presume had theatrical experience),set in a medieval Italy continually
swathed in mist ,with a beautiful Ennio Morricone score that enhances the Wintry landscapes. This is one of Fabio Testi's few
"art" films from the period(alongside "The garden of the Finzi Continis")and he is very good in the role of the husband
cucolded by his wifes brother, Oliver Tobias broods rather than acts but fits the role well, Ms.Rampling looks beautiful and
appears nude in many scenes . This was released by Redemption on video, and despite its age has hardly dated at all .
