Quest for Love (Ralph Thomas, 1971)
« on: 12 Feb 2011 - 13:29 »

Ralph Thomas ([amazondvd]DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE[/amazondvd]) direct Joan Collins, Tom Bell, and Denholm Elliot in a big screen adaptation of John Wyndham's short story "Random Quest" (also adapted for British TV in 1969 and 2006).  It is due out on DVD in the US on February 22 from Scorpion Releasing.

Here is one of a pair of reviews I wrote for it at DVD Drive-In.

It's a bit of a frustrating watch.  It has great sets and costumes but the sci-fi element is pushed to the side while the romance is somewhat dull.  The film was produced by Peter Rogers (who also produced [amazondvd]REVENGE[/amazondvd] which featured Collins) and, as usual, unsubtly scored by Eric Rogers (the two were not related) with music better suited to a period drama.
