'Brazil' coming to BD
« on: 01 Apr 2011 - 16:42 »

Had to start this because it's a personal favourite. Unfortunately from Universal instaed of Criterion and bare bones but at least it's the Director's Cut.

Universal Studios Home Entertainment has announced Brazil for Blu-ray release on July 12. This dystopian science-fiction movie, with 1984 overtones and touches of pitch- black comedy, takes a highly imaginative and chilling look at a "perfect" future where technology reigns supreme and bureaucracy overrules love for the sake of efficiency.

Just the new version of the old DVD classic "chapter selections" and "interactive menus" that even today still appear on DVD cases as though they are something new.

I must say I'm not bothered and will pick this release up because I have the first release Criterion set (which I have kept because it's signed to me by Gilliam) and that, as many people know, is a non-anamorphic print and looks pretty shit. So I can have the DVD set for the extras and the Blu-ray for re-watching the film.  :P

I have to rebuy the Criterion set now. Sold it a while ago when I needed some cash but the commentaries and documentary are too good.

Is it still available or has it risen in price like some of the others?

It's still listed as in print on their site. I remember the non-anamorphic went up for a bit because they took it OOP when they were redoing it but they seem to have held onto rights for it now.

I suppose it's possible they might still do their own Blu. They're doing it with Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas even though Universal already released one.
