Filmbar70 gets all racy with Radley Metzger’s mind-bending erotic masterpiece – the beguiling, the beautiful, ‘The Lickerish Quartet’ (1970). An entrancing meditation upon the act of viewing, ‘The Lickerish Quartet’ presents a playground where fashion, intelligence, art and sex collide with ravishing results.
Ensconced in the stagnating seclusion of their remote castle, a fractured family of mother, son and stepfather subside on a diet of game playing and stag films. Urged by the son to shake the shackles of their complacency, the trio sojourn to a funfair to indulge in the thrill of the ‘Wall of Death’, whose star bears an uncanny resemblance to the lead in their most recently viewed erotic opus. Doubting the enticing young woman’s claim that she has ever been involved in such an endeavour, the family persuade her to accompany them home in order to confront her with a screening of her past sexscapades. Yet they are confounded most mysteriously in their mission, for the film is not quite as they remember – the characters visages have been oddly occulted. As night draws into day, games are played, seductions are made, and the fragile barrier between the real and the illusionary, between flesh and celluloid, begins to crumble…
‘The Lickerish Quartet’ hails from that brief period when investigations into sexuality were openly embraced by the respectable movie going public. By the close of the ‘60s, the heat emanating from European cinema screens could be felt in the euro specialist theatres of America. The most accomplished director to seize upon this sexplosion would become the king of art-house erotica, Radley Mertzger, and Filmbar70 is proud to present the pinnacle of his achievements.
By fusing the deconstructed narrative approach of Alain Resnais’ art-house hit ‘Last Year in Marienbad’ (1961) with the emergent soft-porn chic that was raising more than eyebrows across the continent, Metzger created a glamorous and cerebral form of sinema far removed from the shoddily shot, dirty mac fodder that would eventually dominate the red-light picture house. His mystifying masterpiece would bear all the hallmarks of his sumptuous style – the glorious pop-art interiors, the coolly attractive cast, the super heated couplings – ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the intoxicating world of ‘The Lickerish Quartet’.
Featuring genre veteran Frank Wolf and glacial euro fox Silvana Venturelli, seductively scored by Italian maestro Stelvio Cipriani, ‘The Lickerish Quartet’ giddily oozes an unmatched euro vibe guaranteed to get you hot under the collar whilst simultaneously making you question the permanence of identity.
So leave that dirty mac at home and join Filmbar70 as we revel in the hip ‘n’ horny delights of a bygone era. Deliciously decadent, eminently playful and seriously sexy, ‘The Lickerish Quartet’ provides substantial stimulation for the mind AND body…
To compliment the feature, will be providing plenty of pornedelic tunage, saucy ads and tantalising trailers, all designed to get you in the mood…
