For anyone who's interested in seeing this: a while ago, I made a fan DVD in which I added English audio from a VHS release and also provided subtitles for all the bits that were cut from the English language release. It took me ages to do, and is still available on Cinematik and CG. I used the Raro Video release, so the hardcore inserts are included as extras, and are not in the main film. A weird film - how on Earth did they get Morricone involved with this?!

Cool, Marc did a full length composite version using the slightly better quality German DVD as the source which has the h/c scenes intact. Using the three versions mentioned in this post he then added all the scenes that were missing from the German DVD and added subtitles for the parts with no English audio. Runs for 2hr 8m 2secs.

Marc's fan disc also has the short documentary from the Raro DVD subtitled into English plus some deleted scenes.

Which reminds me, have you still got my German DVD of this Marc?

It's very likely the Italian maestro never watched those hardcore scenes, which are usually shot apart from the very making of a movie, usually lensed in a different way and then inserted in a producer's cut for foreign markets only (especially France). I watched a great documentary of the 90s about Morricone some months ago, broadcasted by the old Tele+ Italian TV, and the maestro told that he uses to watch a seemingly final cut of the movie and he makes some notes on a book by his own shorthand method during the screening, then he comes back home and he starts to write the music on the staff without trying to play the music on a piano.

We're not discussing about the acquaintance between Morricone and Lizzani here, which is quite obvious, but about the fact the Italian soundtrack maestro had watched or not the hardcore version of the movie.
If one can hear the soundtrack missing from that mentioned composite fan made version, maybe my above lines can make some sense.

... at half price, one disc would be under the limit anyway.
