Joanna (Michael Sarne, 1968)

Starring Genevieve Waite, Calvin Lockheart and Donald Sutherland.

Crazy 60's film, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It follows the exploits of Joanna and situations she encounters, most of the time she looks like she's stoned or one something and looks a bit lost, Lockheart plays it smooth and Sutherland was great fun as a toffee nosed twit.

It's yet another one of them BFI Flipside releases that you really like but can't explain why, I'm particularly happy about enjoying this one as I wasn't keen on the last one I watched, [amazondvd]Requiem For A Village[/amazondvd], which is why I didn't bother making a thread for it.

[amazondvd]Joanna[/amazondvd] is definately worth a watch and has some nice music which at times reminded me of Stelvio Cipriani.

I only have 'permissive','deep end',london in the raw' and 'primitive london' but i will pick this up on your advice. The package as a whole is generally great with these releases, there has been some great extras, short films and massive fact filled booklets.I was thinking of picking up 'bed sitting room' but thats for another thread :D

Can anybody recommend any others in this series?

I've got all the flipside one's so far, still quite a few to get through though. I've made some threads for some in the British film section.

I've been selective with what I've bought but I have a fair few of them. They're great and I'm always interested to see what the BFI will unearth next.

They are certainly an aquired taste, ghastly ones is probably the most well known but i prefer his sexploitation films,if i had to pick my favourite horror it would have to be 'the man with two heads' just for the weird s&m subtext. To be fair i can understand why most would turn their noses up at him but i enjoy his films. His biography is probably one of the best books i have ever read in my life. The guy was one seriously angry messed up perv

I agree, Jimmy McDonough's biography The Ghastly One: The Sex-Gore Netherworld of Filmmaker Andy Milligan is an incredible read.
