Blood and Black Lace Fanzine
« on: 12 Aug 2012 - 11:22 »

I am currently writing about British Euro-Cult fanzines/ small press publications. I picked up these copies of Blood and Black Lace, a fanzine that I had never heard of until I stumbled across a few copies at a recent convention. I was wondering if any of the knowledgable members here know if this was the first British fanzine entirely devoted to Euro-Cult or were there any others before 1989? I know Giallo Pages came after this in 1993 but I haven't located any others that were from the UK. European Trash Cinema appears to be the first but it was an American publication.

Stephen Thrower's Eyeball first appeared in 1989 too.

And I think Nigel Bartlett's Raw Virus might have been euro only - I think it came out in about 1987. If I get a chance to go up the attic this week I'll pull some of my old fanzine collection out.

Thanks for that Rich, had no idea that Eyeball was that early. I have been trying to get in touch with Stephen Thrower for a while now but can't find an email address for him. I've interviewed a lot of fanzine producers over the past few years.

I have digital copies of issues 1 and 2 of Raw Virus. I'll check them out in a bit.

What about Cold Sweat?

It's your lucky day! I'll pm you it in a minute.

From memory, I think Cold Sweat covered US films too.

No probs. So which fanzine writers have you interviewed? Is this thing you're writing going to appear anywhere or is it uni-related?

Quite a few. A lot asked to remain anonymous but I have spoken to Steve Green, a lovely bloke who used to do fanzine reviews in The Dark Side, Tris Thompson, Harvey Fenton, Craig Leadbetter among many others. I'm still hoping to speak to Stephen Thrower and would love to track down John Martin but I have not located contact information for either.

This will be part of the first chapter of my PhD but will be published sometime in the next two years, I hope. I have a few chapters coming out next year, one will be on Fantom Kiler.

I'm pretty sure it's The Sect. Haven't seen it for many years.

Ah, this is it, thanks a ton! I haven't seen The Sect in years either but I remember a face-ripping ritual for sure. This would warrant a rewatch. Cheers!

Not strictly Euro only, but how about Stefan Jaworzyn of Shock Xpress fame? That appeared in around 1984. I still have every issue, and it was where Mark Moore's S-Express got their name.

Shock Xpress is the best fanzine ever.

Trevor Barley's Media Publications and his Good Giallo Guide were 80s too.
