I have the shriek show disc but apart from a lot of nudity I don't remember anything shot in a sleazy fashion outside of Neri's frequent stripping off. I remember that well and also the 3 or 4 minutes the films soundtrack is out of sync. Quality Control must have been taking a nap when that part came up.

Same here, never even watched the Shriek Show disc, just sold it on and bought the excellent Raro release.

Great example of very entertaining eurotrash. I've seen better storylines in porn films but who gives a damn when there's lots of naked babies (and some pussy shots too ;D ), graphic killings and Kinski!

This is one of those films that "normal" movie fans will never understand in spite of how much you praise it and also one of those you will watch secretly from your girlfriend.

Italian Raro version has few close up shots at Rosalba Neri's masturbation scene. It's actually quite funny because you can still clearly see that it's not Rosalba's pussy in the picture... or maybe I just examined that scene too eagerly  :D

Just watched the movie for the first time (Raro) and I must say I'm glad I did.
I'm a big fan of Di Leo and this one is "somewhat different".
The movie starts looking as a gothic horror and Margheriti's Virgin Of Nuremberg came to mind several times during the viewing.
Interesting...
The soundtrack also seems more suited for a gothic horror...
As a big Italian gothic fan I loved the gothic style scenes.
Di Leo describes it as pulp in the interview,I would tend to believe it's influenced by pulp comics, the fumetti's.
Anyway the only thing I didn't really like was the abrupt ending.
This should have had an extra 30min and more weapons. :D

Bit of a strange question: I would like to see the "version with no pussy",is there a widescreen version available or only the UK dvd?

I'm a huge di Leo fan but really didn't care for this flick at all.

Ditto for me. Apart from the plentiful nudity I can't find another reason to visit this one again save for the interviews...but then I'd have to buy it all over again.

I, too, had the feeling that Di Leo seemed pretty disinterested in this one. I love the trash component, but in terms of suspense, the film is a complete failure. I found that somewhat annoying, cause all the necessary ingredients - madness, compulsion, lust, weaponry - were there. but he just didn't use them to create even a hint of tension/suspense. it's got to be one of the most un-suspenseful Gialli I've seen.
Love Mrs Neri, though. THAT wardrobe....!!!

The Raro disc has no English for the scene with the audio botch on the Shriek Show disc and is missing footage! Surely not the way to go!

There was some speculation on the Latarnia board about there being more than one murderer which some of the scenes suggest (why would the nurse who gets decapitated not think it strange that the person who turns out to be the killer is wandering around the grounds at night after visiting hours and the eye contact one victim/patient makes with the killer also suggests familiarity).  Perhaps it was dropped from the script or Di Leo wasn't interested and decided to whip together an ending referencing the Richard Speck killings (in a scene that is even more gratuitous than anything that preceded it).

The US screener that Gorgon sent out for review seems to have been the more explicit cut.  In the Video Watchdog Book, Tim Lucas mentions that the title on the tape was still COLD BLOODED BEAST even though it was being sold as SLAUGHTER HOTEL.  My Gorgon tape has the SLAUGHTER HOTEL video burned in with shortened credits.

Yeah, somewhere between the Shriek Show version and the Raro version there's a definitive version. You need both versions to see all the footage.
